Pictured above are representatives from every local association in the state with checks their locals received from the BIAW Education program. The way locals get this money is through partnership with BIAW to present educational opportunities to all association members at rates that are affordable. The nice thing about this program is most all the classes are offered in every local’s jurisdiction some time during the year. So, when you ask where the money goes that you pay to take these classes, it goes to overhead including promotion of the event as well as a small amount comes back to your local.

We just finished with the BIAW Winter Board of Directors meeting and Legislative Conference/Reception. While at the meeting a number of the members went to the capitol with empty water bottles that were delivered to every legislator’s office. The note inside asked that the legislature fix the Hirst Decision that has had a devastating effect on all counties in Washington because it added a layer to well permitting that requires the Counties to determine if an exempt well will have any detrimental effect on local streams. This decision had the same effect on the rest of the state as did the Supreme Court Decision in 2013 that stopped all building in the Skagit River Basin but not in response to a lawsuit filed by a local tribe. The good news is that the Senate passed SB 5239 which is a start to fix the water problems we have in the state and it has been sent to the House of Representatives for their debate and approval. Please contact your Representatives and ask them to support the bill to get Washington’s building industry working successfully again. If you have questions as to who your Representatives are, call Wayne at 360 488-4078 or email [email protected].

FROM THE PRESIDENT Wow, is time flying. It seems we just celebrated the Christmas Holiday Season and we are already looking at this year’s SICBA Home and Garden Show and Easter just around the corner! The home and garden show is moving along quite well and we expect to have a great event the last weekend of this month. March 24th, 25th and 26th. We also changed our monthly event to the evening of Friday, March 24th in order to kick off the show and provide a night out for our members and for the vendors at the show. Click here Be sure to make your reservations right away to attend this fun evening and enjoy everything that is being offered this year. Yes, we do have a garden this year where visitors can purchase their desired plants for their home gardens. This has been lacking in the past but we have negotiated with a garden supplier to be at the show for the general public’s convenience. Another win for us this year! We also need volunteers to help at the gates, at the Membership and Built Green® booth and in general to help us keep things orderly and fun for everyone. So, we are asking that you volunteer a couple hours of your time that weekend to help us make this event one of the best ever. This is the major fundraiser of the year for SICBA and one of the reasons we have been able to keep your dues where they are. Help us help you keep your dues low and in check. Give Lianna a call at 360 488-4079 or email her at [email protected] for an opportunity to help out. Lastly, if you haven’t checked out all the great things about our new website, take a few minutes to do so. It won Gold in international competition.

SICBA’s strength is as strong as our membership. Our productivity is as successful as our committees, board, volunteers and staff. This isn’t an association of one, but of many combined efforts. Each SICBA member has their own special strength and talent to add to the association. Thank you! Thank you for your membership, for your recruiting efforts, for your participation, for supporting the Building Industry in your own way. “Get Involved and Grow your Business” – join a committee, attend a dinner meeting or networking event, participate in an education class. If you have been watching the newsletter, etc., you will see that our afterhours events are always a lot of fun. Lots of networking and opportunities to see old friends we haven’t seen for some time.

Our event for February was held at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen and Lighting Gallery and as always, was a great time. Lots of “oohs and ahs” for all the beautiful bath fixtures, appliances and lighting fixtures they offer as an opportunity for those remodeling or even for new construction.

We started the evening with our networking and social time. Ferguson had the dinner catered by Kelly’s Barbecue and wine was from Tulip Winery as well as beer, sodas and water. Everyone had a great choice for their enjoyment. Our president was not in attendance due to an emergency and we talked Josh Baldwin into covering for him for the evening. As always, Josh did a great job. Take a look at the hearts above. This is what members said about why they love SICBA. We were able to welcome a new member and recognize our builder members that were in attendance. February is National Builder Appreciation Month so it was surely appropriate. The renewal drawing went to Woodcraft Wood Floors Inc. and if RE/MAX Territory NW would have been present, they could have taken home the Membership Bonus Drawing of $300. It is 350 for March! Jim Dorris was the lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing and took home $50. Congrats to all! Be sure and reserve for our March Madness event on March 24

SICBA COMMITTEE REPORTS Events: Chair is Kim Piazza We had another great event at Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting for our February, We LOVE SICBA event! Members got to roam around the beautiful Ferguson showroom and mingle with members. Members were also asked to write down one thing they LOVE about SICBA and most people wrote down the PEOPLE! Our next event will be at the Home & Garden Show on Friday night, March 24

th, from 5-7pm. There will be a live band, food trucks and of course you will be able to walk

around and visit the vendor booths. Be sure to get signed up for the Adult Lego® Build Contest to put your “building” skills to test! Tickets for the March event can be purchased at www.SICBAEvents.com

Home & Garden Show: Chair is Dave Hillman

It’s finally March and that means it’s Home & Garden Show time! The show is almost sold out, we have about 10 booths still available! We are also excited to be adding a large Garden Center this year, provided by Azusa Farms. Purchase your spring plants and flowers in the Garden Center, visit vendors, eat at the food trucks, vote for your favorite playhouse and of course, attend one of the many informative seminars. We are in need of volunteers for the Show. Shifts only last 2 hours (unless you want to work more) at the SICBA booth or at the Gates. Please contact Lianna to sign up to help out at the Show. This event is SICBA’s largest public event of the year and we would love everyone’s help to make it a huge success!

Home Tour: Chair is Curtis Banta The first Home Tour meeting of the year will take place Tuesday, March 7

th at 4pm in the SICBA office. We are hoping to

add people to our committee, so we encourage you to come be a part of this fun event! We are also starting to gather information for the homes for the Tour. If you are a builder and you have a home you would like to feature on this year’s Home Tour, please get in touch with Lianna at 360-488-4079. We would love to have more homes this year than we have ever had! This event is definitely a community favorite!

Golf: Chair is Jim Eyre The Golf Committee met for the first time in February. Our tournament will be held at Avalon Golf Course on Friday July

14th with an 8:30am shotgun start! We are in the very beginning planning stages of the event and would love to add to our

committee. Please join us for our next meeting at the SICBA office on Wednesday, March 15th at 4pm.

Marketing: Chair To Be Determined We are still looking for someone to Chair the marketing committee. We would like to start our meetings back up for the New Year! If you have a passion for marketing, we want YOU! Please contact Lianna at 360-488-4079 or at [email protected] . We usually meet once a month to brainstorm new marketing ideas for the Association and there’s usually lunch involved. FUN FUN!

SICBA’S Annual Home Tour is on for September!

In the next few weeks, we will be contacting all of our builders to participate in SICBA’s Annual Home Tour scheduled for September. If you have a home you would like to showcase, let Lianna know right away and she will get the information to you as soon as it is available and up to date for this year. Our tour has been highly successful each year we have produced it and everyone who has participated has indicated they have gotten work from showcasing one of their projects on the tour. If you are a specialty contractor who has a great project to showcase, we ask that you contact your General Contractor/Builder and ask them to put that project on the tour. It is good advertising for you and helps SICBA promote our members as they rightfully deserve. Any questions, call Lianna at 360 488-4079 or email [email protected].
