•Broad remit to enhance RDM infrastructure within LSHTM:–Documentation that establish LSHTM’s commitment to supporting RDM & management approach–Education programme on data management principles and practices, and enable sharing of good practice– Data repository capable of cataloguing and manage research data produced within the School–Investigate further developments required to support research data management

•Wellcome Trust funding for 2012‐2015

•2015 onwards: sustainable service, supported by varying funding

•RDM Service located in Library & Archives Service

Research Data Management Policy

1. Research Data is an institutional asset that should be managed over time

2. RDM is an integral part of good research practice that should be performed in conformance with relevant Legislative, regulatory, and/or contractual obligations

3. PI (or designated other) responsible for RDM in research projects. Research data:

• Must be held in a secure, managed storage facility throughout its lifecycle

• Must be documented in an Data Management Plan• Must be cited in research papers and other outputs• Must be registered with School and, if feasible, made available 

for access

4. School will provide resources for necessary to support RDM activities

Teaching style:Classroom, drop‐in surgery sessions

Time allocation:1 – 3 hours, 1 day

Summary• LSHTM support Research Data Management as an activity within 

School

• RDM Support Service producing a range of resources to support researchers creating and managing research data– Addressing requirements of Research Councils UK (BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC, MRC, 

etc.) and other funders– Examine ways to simplify the researchers’ life

• New funding requirements will require change in practice– Training and resources will be available to support researchers

• Research Data Management requires collaborative approach– Support available through central services– Support network to share local knowledge and expertise
