AGILITY OF BI APPLICATIONS - AGILITY OF BI APPLICATIONS - DEFINITIONDEFINITION
Agility of Business Intelligence Applications not to be confused with the AGILE BI (SDLC alternative – SCRUM/X-P methodology) methodology
Agility of BI applications: The all-encompassing, fastest, easiest, best ROI producing BI for decision makers.
*Focus on Richard Hackathorn’s “Latency of Decisions”
Capture latency. This is where active or real-time DW really focuses -- how you get data from operational sources into the DW fast, with all the cleansing, synthesis, and consolidation inevitably required.
Analysis latency. The assumption is that there must be some value-add in analyzing the data -- this is where BI and analytic tools come to bear.
Decision latency. For me, this gets to the most interesting part. Let's look closer.

FIELD LEVEL VS MANAGERIAL FIELD LEVEL VS MANAGERIAL REPORTING NEEDSREPORTING NEEDS
It’s important to note that actionable data is different at the field level than at the executive level. Field level managers are focused on addressing immediate issues; answering the question, “Where are my problems today?” For example:
•In a distribution facility: What shipments are late?•In a sales organization: Which salespeople are selling below their targets?•In a hospital: What maintenance must be performed in order for us to remain compliant with relevant laws?
On the other hand, rather than solving a problem with today’s details, executives focus more on managing their subordinate managers. An executive might ask a set of questions like:
•What is the general trend in our sales, or distribution, or maintenance performance?•How does that trend compare to the goals I’ve set for the period?•Is the trend headed in the right direction?•Who’s the manager who’s responsible for that part of our business?

Actionable BIreporting presents data;
analysis turns data into information. Information that, to be useful, can be then acted upon in the
interest of the company’s strategy.

ACE: KEY COMPONENTS & TOOLSACE: KEY COMPONENTS & TOOLS
• A governance structure that defines the areas which influence now, later, and future decision making enablement (Real time data, Analytical data, Social data, etc.,)
• The same governance structure redoing the business rules keeping in view the ROI of Business Intelligence units within the organization.
• Thus leading to a clear and precise directions on the business process mapping across all the units and influencing units of an organization
• Business rules, validated and thus proliferated across organization leading to a complete and an agile BI space.
Tools & Technologies:
• Actionable - OBIEE 11g, Dataspace, LogiXML etc• Collaborative – Panorama Necto, Cognos Connections, Lyzasoft• Embedded – BIRT from Actuate, Jaspersoft
