Please read the instructions carefully beforeuse and retain this user guide for futurereference.
Your Freestyle 2000 handset comes with anAlarm Clock Radio Charger. You should referto the separate user guide ‘Freestyle AlarmClock Radio and Charger’ for instructions onhow to use it.

Registering your handsetYou MUST register your Freestyle 2000handset to your existing DECT GAPcompatible base station for the handset towork. There may be limited availability ofsome functions.
The internal call functions described in thisguide apply to your base station if you havemore than one handset connected.

Safety information
General
Only use the power supply included with the product marked Alarm Clock Radio.Using an unauthorised power supply willinvalidate your guarantee and may damagethe telephone.
Only use the approved rechargeablebatteries supplied. Spare rechargeablebatteries – are available from the FreestyleHelpline 0870 240 3962.
If the keypad is locked, it is STILL possibleto make emergency calls to 999 and 112.
Do not open the handset (except to replacethe handset batteries) or charger. This couldexpose you to high voltages or other risks.Contact the Helpline for all repairs.
Radio signals transmitted between thehandset and base may cause interference tohearing aids.
It is recommended that advice from aqualified expert be sought before using thisproduct in the vicinity of emergency/intensive care medical equipment.
It is recommended that if you have apacemaker fitted you check with a medicalexpert before using this product.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of explosion and/orthe release of highly toxic chemicals.
Cleaning
Simply clean the handset and charger with a damp (not wet) cloth, or an antistatic wipe.Never use household polish as this will damage the product. Never use a drycloth as this may cause a static shock.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.
The product may heat up when the batteriesare being recharged or during prolongedperiods of use. This is normal. However, werecommend to avoid damage you do not placethe product on antique/veneered wood.
Do not stand your product on carpets or othersurfaces which generate fibres, or place it inlocations preventing free flow of air over itssurfaces.
Do not submerge any part of your product inwater and do not use it in damp or humidconditions, such as in bathrooms.
Do not expose your product to fire, explosiveor other hazardous conditions.
There is a slight chance that your phonecould be damaged by an electrical storm. We recommend that you unplug the powerand telephone line cord for the duration of the storm.

Setting upFollow these steps to set up your Freestyle 2000 ready for use
Plan the location of yourFreestyle 2000
The following points should be considered:
• Situate your product close enough to thepower socket so that the cable will reachsafely without stretching. Ensure that youplan the location so that the mains power is easily accessible in case you need todisconnect the power.
• Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other electrical productsto avoid interference.
Please note
The Freestyle 2000 has a range of up to 300metres outdoors and up to 50 metres indoors.The range will be reduced when there is noclear line of sight between the base andhandset. Thick stone walls can severely affectthe range.
Plug the power cable into the power socket onthe back of your Freestyle Alarm Clock RadioCharger.
For more information on the charger, pleaserefer to the separate ‘Freestyle Alarm ClockRadio and Charger user guide’.
Plug the adaptor into the mains power supplyand switch on.

The handset uses two rechargeable NickelMetal Hydride (Ni-MH) AAA batteries whichare supplied. Take care to insert the batteriesas shown and then fit the battery cover (thebattery cover may be found in the packagingwith the batteries).
Before you use your Freestyle 2000 for thefirst time, it is important to have the handsetbatteries fully charged. The batteries need tocharge continuously for at least 16 hours toreach full charge.
Place the handset on the Alarm Clock RadioCharger and leave to charge for at least 16hours.
The battery symbol is also shown on thedisplay. It flashes during charging. Once thehandset is fully charged, the display shows afull battery symbol and REGISTER!

Battery low warningIf the handset battery symbol is empty andflashing, and you hear a warning beep every10 seconds, you will need to recharge yourhandset before you can use it.
Battery performanceUnder no circumstances should non-rechargeable batteries be used. Only usethe approved batteries, type: rechargeableNickel Metal Hydride (NiMH); Size AAA;Capacity 600 mAh. Using unapprovedbatteries will invalidate your guarantee andmay damage the telephone.
To keep your batteries in the best condition,leave the handset off the charger for a fewhours at a time (after the initial 16 hourcharge).
Please note, however, that new Nickel MetalHydride (Ni-MH) batteries do not reach theirfull capacity until they have been in normaluse for several days.
Fully discharging the batteries at least oncea week will help them to last as long aspossible. However, the charge capacity ofrechargeable batteries will reduce with timeas they wear out, so reducing thetalk/standby time of the handset. Eventuallythey will need to be replaced.
2 Install the rechargeablebatteries in the handset

At the base station:
Press and hold the PAGE button untilit beeps (about 10 seconds).
At the handset:
Press the MENU button.
The display will show REDIAL.
Press the DOWN button until thedisplay shows REGISTER HS.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show BASE A.
Use the DOWN button to display thebase you want to register the handsetto e.g. A, B, C or D.
(It is not important which one youchoose, but it is suggested that you use the same letter/number asthat shown on the other handsetsregistered to this base.)

Please note
Under ideal conditions, the handset batteriesshould give about 12 hours talktime or 120hours standby on a single charge. Optimumtimes for talk and standby are only achievedwhen the handset batteries are new and fullycharged.

4 Registering the handset to the base station
Press the ✔ button to confirm.
The display will show a flashingcursor and ENTER PIN.
Enter your PIN (factory setting 0000).
Press the ✔ button to confirm.
The display will show SEARCHINGand the letter/number of the chosenbase will flash.
When registration is complete, thedisplay will show the handset nameand number.
Please note
If the display shows NO BASE it means thatthe handset could not find the base that youselected. Please ensure that the base you areregistering to is within range and switched on,and that you hold the PAGE button until itbeeps before selecting the base on the handset. If the display shows NOT POSSIBLE it meansthat there are already 5 handsets registered to the base. You will need to de-register one ofthe other handsets before you can registeranother one.

Using your Freestyle 2000telephone
Please note
To exit and return to the previous menu atany time, press the ✘ button. If you keeppressing the ✘ button you will return to thestandby screen.
Press the TALK button. The display will show the iconand you will hear the dial tone.
Enter the telephone number. The number is dialled automatically.
To make a call
Making and receiving calls
Preparatory dialling allows you toenter the number before pressingthe TALK button. This enables youto correct any mistakes before youactually make the call.
First enter the telephone number tobe dialled.

The number is shown on the display.(If you make a mistake you can deletea digit by pressing the ✘ button)
When you have entered the numbercorrectly, press the TALK button todial the number.

Place the handset back in thecharger.
To end a call
When the telephone rings the displaywill show CALL and the iconwill flash.
If you have subscribed to a CallerDisplay Service your caller’s numberwill be shown (or the name if it isstored in your directory).
Press the TALK button or pick thehandset up from the base to answer the call.
To receive a call

If you do not want your telephonenumber sent to the person you arecalling you can withhold it. You willneed to do this each time you makea call, this includes using redial.
Press the MENU button.
The display will show REDIAL.
Press the DOWN button until thedisplay shows WITHHOLD.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show DIAL NOW.
Enter the number you want to dial.
Press the TALK button.
The withhold code will be dialledand then the telephone number.
To withhold your number whenmaking a call

During a call you can adjust thespeech volume of your caller. Thereare 3 volume levels: low ■ , medium■ ■ and high ■ ■ ■ .
During a call:
Press the MENU button. (You need towait until a forward arrow � appearsin the display.)
To adjust the speech volume during a call

Press the DOWN button until thedisplay shows IN CALL VOL.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show the currentlevel with a tick on the right of thedisplay, ie, ■ ■ ■ ✔ .
Press the DOWN button to increasethe volume.
Once the maximum level is reached,press the DOWN button to return tothe lowest level.
When you have reached the levelyou require, press the ✔ button.The volume will not change until theis ✔ pressed.
The display will show STORED.

Secrecy
When on a call you can talk to someone in thesame room without your caller hearing.
During a call:
Press the ✘ button. The display willshow the icon. Your caller cannothear you.
Press the ✘ button again to returnto your caller.

Enter the number of the handset youwant to contact (e.g. if the otherhandset is Freestyle 3, enter a 3). Thedisplay on your handset will showthe name and number of the calledhandset and the other handset willring (the original call will be put onhold).
When the other handset answers, (if it doesn’t answer, press the TALKbutton to return to your original call)you can hold a conversation whilstyour original call is on hold. If thesecond handset hangs up you will be returned to your original call.
Whilst talking to the second handsetpress the MENU button.
The display will show TRANSFER.
You can now press the DOWNbutton to reveal the other options –CONFERENCE and SWAP CALLS.
Press the ✔ button to select thedisplayed option.
Selecting TRANSFER will send theoriginal call to the other handset.
Selecting CONFERENCE will bringthe other handset in on the originalcall with you.

During a call you can contact anotherFreestyle handset (which is registeredto your base station) without losingthe initial call. You can then speak toeither party independently, have a 3-way conversation or you can transferthe call to the other handset.

The display will show REDIAL.
Press the ✔ button.
The last number called will bedisplayed.
Use the DOWN button to scrollthrough and view the numbers in theredial list.
Press the TALK button to dial thenumber displayed.

Selecting SWAP CALLS will switchyou back to the original call but keepthe other handset on hold (selectSWAP CALLS again to go back tothe other handset).
If you subscribe to BT’s Three WayCalling Service you can performsimilar functions to contact anotherexternal number (instead of anotherFreestyle handset).
During a call:
Press the MENU button. (You need to wait until a forwardarrow � appears in the display.)
The display shows INQUIRY.
Press the ✔ button.
The display shows –NUMBER.
Enter the telephone number youwant to contact.
Press the ✔ button.
When the number you have calledanswers (if it doesn’t answer, pressthe TALK button to return to youroriginal call) you can hold aconversation whilst your original callis on hold. If the second call hangsup you will be returned to youroriginal call. Whilst on the secondcall, press the MENU button. Thedisplay shows CONFERENCE.
You can now press the DOWNbutton to reveal the other options –SWAP CALLS and RECALL.

You can store up to 27 of your most frequentlydialled names and numbers in your Freestyle2000: 20 in the personal directory and 7 in theshared directory. Please note that names canbe up to 11 characters and numbers up to 24digits long.
Names and numbers in the shared directorycan be accessed by other Freestyle handsetsthat are registered to your base.
Press the PERSONAL DIRECTORYbutton.
The display will show EMPTY if thereare no numbers stored.
Press the MENU button.
The display will show NEW.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show a flashingcursor and NUMBER (or FULL if thedirectory is already full).
Enter the telephone number usingthe numbers on the keypad. (If youmake a mistake, press the ✘ buttonto delete incorrect digits and re-enterthe correct ones).
Press the ✔ button to confirm.
The display will show STORED andthen a flashing cursor and NAME.

You can lock the handset keypad toprevent accidental button presses.

Help
No dial tone
Is the telephone line cord for the main basestation plugged into the phone socket?
Check that the charger is connected to themains power and switched on.
You cannot link up with the base station
Is the display flashing?
Check that the mains power cable is connectedto the charger and switched on.
Are you in range of the base station?
Batteries could be low or flat.
If using more than one base station, check thatyou have the correct base selected.
Handset does not ring
The ringer volume may be switched to off. To adjust the ringer volume on thehandset, see page 22.
Check that the main base station is pluggedinto the phone socket.
Check that the charger is plugged into themains power and switched on.
Replacing the handset batteries
After a time, you may find that the handsetbatteries are running out of charge morequickly. This is a standard sign of wear and thebatteries will need replacing.
Slide the battery compartment cover off asshown. Take out the old batteries and replacewith new batteries. Only use the approvedbatteries, see page 10 for details.
Spare rechargeable batteries are available fromthe Freestyle 2000 Helpline 0870 240 3962.
Do not immerse batteries in water or throwthem into a fire, or dispose of them withordinary domestic refuse.
BT accepts no responsibility for damage causedto your Freestyle handset by using any othertypes of batteries.
No display appears
The batteries may be flat, dead or incorrectlyinserted. Recharge or replace the batteries.
The handset may be switched off.

Buzzing noise on my radio, TV, computer orhearing aid
Sometimes, your Freestyle 2000 can interferewith other electrical equipment if it is placedtoo close.
It is recommended that you place yourFreestyle 2000 and other Freestyle handsets atleast one metre away from such appliances toavoid any risk of interference.
The charger does not appear to be working
Check that:
• The power adaptor is properly plugged intothe charger.
• Your handset has slotted correctly into thecharger.
• The batteries are correctly fitted into the handset.

Guarantee
Your Freestyle 2000 is guaranteed for a periodof 12 months from the date of purchase.
Subject to the terms listed below the guaranteewill provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or itsagent’s discretion, the option to replace theFreestyle 2000, or any component thereof,(other than batteries), which is identified asfaulty or below standard, or as a result ofinferior workmanship or materials. Productsover 28 days old from the date of purchase maybe replaced with a refurbished product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:• The guarantee shall only apply to defects that
occur within the 12 month guarantee period.
• Proof of purchase is provided.
• The equipment is returned to BT or its agentas instructed.
• This guarantee does not cover any faults or defects caused by accidents, misuse, fairwear and tear, neglect, tampering with theequipment, or any attempt at adjustment orrepair other than through approved agents.
• This guarantee does not affect yourstatutory rights.

How many telephones can you have?
All items of telephone equipment have aRinger Equivalence Number (REN), which isused to calculate the number of items which maybe connected to any one telephone line. YourFreestyle 2000 has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is allowed, if the total REN of 4 is exceeded,the telephones may not ring.
With different telephone types there is noguarantee of ringing, even when the REN isless than 4.
Only use approved power supply.
Only use approved rechargeable batteries.
Switchboard compatibility
This product is intended for use within the UKfor connection to the public telephone networkand compatible switchboards, which supporttone dialling and timed break recall. If in doubtplease consult your switchboard maintainer.
