BT Drive Free 311This Bluetooth hands-free system was developed specifi cally for users who want to use their cell phone while driving. The BT Drive Free 311 is equipped with an LCD display for the display of phone numbers or names of callers. The device supports voice output (text to speech) in 5 diff erent languages as well as phone book synchronisation with cell phones. You receive voice announce-ments about the device status and hear the name or the phone number of the caller in case of an incoming call. With the advanced CVC technology for echo cancelling and noise suppression, the BT Drive Free 311 off ers excellent hands-free quality and ensures convenient and safe phone calls while driving.

Bluetooth technologyBluetoothTM is a registered trademark of Bluetooth SIG, lnc. Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology with short range. It enables wireless connections between all compatible portable and stationary communication devices. The technology is based on a radio connection that ensures a fast and reliable transmission of voice and data information. Bluetooth refers to a worldwide standard for operating in the internation-ally recognised ISM frequency band (Industrial Scientifi c & Medical). Within the ISM band (2.4 GHz to 2.485 GHz), the Bluetooth transmission operates 1600 times per second between 79 diff erent frequencies with a data transmis-sion range of approx. 10 metres.

Safety and general information – Carefully read the operating instructions and follow the instructions. – To avoid any damages and malfunctions, do not drop the device from

an elevated height. – Protect the device against humidity, water and other liquids. If the device

should have been exposed to water, humidity or other liquids, do not use it since it may lead to damages of the device and to injuries from electrical shock or explosion.

– Do not expose the device to extreme heat sources, such as direct sunlight. This could cause explosions as well as reduce the performance and/or service life of the battery.

– Do not make any changes or repairs to the device and do not attempt to disassemble it. (Particularly not on the battery since the risk of explosion exists.) It will immediately void the warranty.

– Do not place any heavy objects on the device. – Use only the supplied charger. – Repairs and service work may be performed only by a qualifi ed service

centre or the manufacturer. – In case of extended non-use or thunderstorms, disconnect the device

from the power supply.

Disposal notesUse the return and collection systems available to dispose of the old device.Do not discard any batteries in the household trash; instead, return them to the corresponding collection sites.

Battery informationThe device is equipped with a lithium-ion battery. The battery is compatible with the Nokia battery BL-5B. The full performance of a new battery is not achieved until after two or three complete charging-discharging cycles. The battery can be charged and discharged several hundred times, but it looses its capacity over time.Disconnect the BT Drive Free 311 from the power supply as soon as the bat-tery is fully charged, since overcharging would reduce the service life of the battery. A charged battery looses its capacity if it is not used.Important: Ensure that the battery is fully charged if you do not use the device for a longer period of time. To avoid a complete discharge of the battery, the BT Drive Free 311 should be charged at least every 2 months.

Charging the batteryThe BT Drive Free 311 is operated with a rechargeable battery. Charge the battery completely before its fi rst use. Read the section "Battery information" before starting the charging process.Connect the BT Drive Free 311 with the vehicle charging adapter via the USB cable. Connect the vehicle charging adapter with the cigarette lighter. The BT Drive Free 311 can also be charged with the USB cable connected to the computer.

During the charging process, the display shows "Charging". The complete charging of the battery takes approx. 3 hours. If "Battery Full" is displayed, the battery is fully charged and the BT Drive Free 311 must be disconnected from the charger.A completely charged battery supports a talk time of up to 10 hours and a standby time of up to 480 hours. In case of a weak battery, the display shows "Battery Low" and you will hear a voice announcement every 30 seconds. If the battery charge becomes too low, the BT Drive Free 311 automatically switches off .

Switching on/off Switching onTo switch the device on, hold the MF button pressed for 3 seconds until the display shows "Welcome" and a voice announcement is heard. After switching on, the BT Drive Free 311 automatically connects with the last connected cell phone. As soon as the connection is established, the name of the cell phone is briefl y shown on the display and you hear a voice announcement. Next, the BT Drive Free 311 changes to standby mode.

Standby modeAfter approx. 20 seconds after the last activity, the device switches to standby mode. The display shows "BT DF 311" without background illumination. The illumination is switched on with every button activity or by an incoming call.Switch-off To switch the device off , hold the MF button pressed for 5 seconds until the display shows "Power Off " and a voice announcement is heard. Note: If no connection exists to a cell phone, the BT Drive Free 311 automati-cally switches off after 10 minutes.

Selecting the language The BT Drive Free 311 supports voice output (text to speech) in 5 languages (English, French, Italian, German and Spanish). You receive voice announce-ments about the device status and hear the name or the phone number of the caller in case of an incoming call. To select a diff erent language, hold the MODE button pressed for 3 seconds in standby mode without Bluetooth connection. You will hear an announce-ment in the selected language. Repeat the operating step to select the desired language in the following order: English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Adjusting the volume for voice announcementsIn standby mode without Bluetooth connection, you can adjust the volume for voice announcements with the buttons "+" and "–".

Registering (pairing) and connecting with the cell phoneBefore you can use the BT Drive Free 311, you must register and connect it with a Bluetooth-ready cell phone. The BT Drive Free 311 can be registered with two phones, but only connected with one phone.

– Hold the BT Drive Free 311 within range of a Bluetooth-ready cell phone; the distance should not exceed a metre.

– The BT Drive Free 311 must be switched off . – Hold the MF button pressed for at least 5 seconds until the display shows

"Pairing" and a voice announcement is heard. The device is in registra-tion mode

– Activate the Bluetooth function of the cell phone and start the search for Bluetooth devices. (For further details, please read the operating instruc-tions of your cell phone.). After the search process, the display of the cell phone shows a list of devices.

– Select "BT DF 311". – If necessary, enter the PIN code "0000" and follow the instructions on

the display of the cell phone. After successful pairing, the display of the BT Drive Free 311 shows "Paired" and you hear a voice announcement. (Note: The PIN code is preprogrammed and cannot be changed)

– After pairing, the cell phone automatically connects with the BT Drive Free 311. For some cell phones, you have to manually confi rm the connec-tion. As soon as the connection is established, the name of the cell phone is briefl y shown on the display and you hear a voice announcement. Next, the BT Drive Free 311 changes to standby mode.

Note: If the pairing cannot be completed within 2 minutes, the pairing mode is switched off and the display shows "Pairing fail". The BT Drive Free 311 then changes to standby mode without Bluetooth connection. Switch off the device and repeat the pairing.

Copying the phone bookYou can copy a single phone book entry or the phone book to the BT Drive Free 311. (Note: Not all cell phones support the transfer of the phone book.) Copying a phone book entry

– In standby mode, briefl y press the MODE button. The display shows "Wait-ing", and you hear a voice announcement.

– Open the phone book of the cell phone. Select a contact for copying. – Send the selected contact via Bluetooth to the device name "BT DF 311".

The cell phone establishes a connection to the BT Drive Free 311 and copies the contact.

Copying a phone book – Connect the BT Drive Free 311 with the cell phone before copying the

phone book. – In standby mode, press and hold the MODE button for 4 seconds. The

display shows "Download Start", and you hear a voice announcement. The transfer of the phone book starts. The number of transferred contacts is continuously shown on the display. After the transfer of the phone book is complete, the display shows "Completed" and you hear a voice announcement. Note: Every time you transfer a phone book, the contacts of the previous phone book are deleted.

Using the BT Drive Free 311After the pairing and the phone book transfer have been completed suc-cessfully and the battery has been charged, the following functions can be executed:Making a call

– Voice diallingThe connected cell phone must support voice dialling and the function must be activated. The voice commands for the contacts must have been saved in the cell phone. You fi nd the pertinent information in the operating instructions of the cell phone. To activate voice dialling, briefl y press the MF button in standby mode. You hear two short tones and the display shows "Voice Dial". Say the voice command as it has been recorded for this contact in the cell phone. After the voice command has been recognized, the cell phone dials the number associated with it.

– Redialling the last numberIn standby mode, press the MF button twice. The display shows "Redial" and the last dialled number is dialled again.

– Calling a contact from phone bookThis function is only available if the phone book of the connected cell phone has been transferred to the BT Drive Free 311. In standby mode, hold the "–" button pressed for 3 seconds to open the phone book. The display shows the fi rst phone book entry. If the phone book was not transferred, the display shows "Not Found". Select an entry with the buttons "+" and "–". Briefl y press the MF button to call the displayed number.

– Calling an entry from the call listThe BT Drive Free 311 stores the last 10 rejected or unanswered calls in a call list. In standby mode, hold the "+" button pressed for 3 seconds to open the call list. The display shows the fi rst entry. If no call was stored, the display shows "Not Found". Select an entry with the buttons "+" and "–". Briefl y press the MF button to call the displayed number.

Answering a callWith an incoming call, the name of the caller is announced and shown on the display, if this contact was transferred to the phone book of the BT Drive Free 311. If no name is stored in the phone book, the phone number is announced and displayed. To answer the call, briefl y press the MF button. Ending a callTo end a call, briefl y press the MF button. The display shows "End Call" and you hear a voice announcement.Rejecting a callTo reject a call, hold the MF button pressed for 2 seconds. You hear a tone and the display shows "Rejected". Transferring a callTo transfer a call from the BT Drive Free 311 to the cell phone, hold the MF button pressed for 2 seconds until you hear a tone and the display shows "Transfer". Repeat the operating step to transfer the call back to the BT Drive Free 311.Adjusting the volumeDuring a phone call, you can adjust the volume with the buttons "+" and "–". The volume can be adjusted in 15 increments. You hear a tone once the minimum or maximum volume has been reached.Muting the microphoneTo mute the microphone during a call, press the MODE button. You hear 2 tones and the display shows "Mute mode". During the muting, you hear a tone every 5 seconds. Press the MODE button again to cancel the muting.Conducting a private callDuring the call, hold the MODE button pressed for 2 seconds until you hear 2 tones. The volume of the loudspeaker will be greatly reduced and you can use the BT Drive Free 311 like a regular phone. Repeat the operating step if you want to use the BT Drive Free 311 again as hands-free system.Audio streamingThe BT Drive Free 311 supports the A2DP function. With an audio streaming connection, you can playback the music titles stored on the cell phone via the BT Drive Free 311. In case of a call, the music playback is interrupted and continued again after the call.

Resetting the BT Drive Free 311You can restore the original factory settings of the BT Drive Free 311. In doing so, all paired cell phones, the phone book and the call list are deleted and English is set for voice announcements.

– In standby mode without Bluetooth connection, hold the buttons "+" and "–" pressed at the same time for 5 seconds until the display shows "Erasing". The process starts and is completed once the display shows "Erased" and you hear a voice announcement.

– The BT Drive Free 311 automatically switches off .

Fault removalIf a connection between the BT Drive Free 311 and a cell phone cannot be established, observe the following:

– Ensure that the battery is charged. – Ensure that the Bluetooth function of the cell phone is activated. You fi nd

more detailed information in the operating instructions of the cell phone. – Check whether the BT Drive Free 311 is connected with the cell phone. – Ensure that the distance between the BT Drive Free 311 and a connected

cell phone is less than 10 metres and no obstacles (such as walls or elec-tronic devices) are located between the devices. Obstacles can interfere with the transmission or reduce the range.

– If these steps do not lead to a solution of the problem, remove the battery for several minutes. If need be, contact the Service Centre of your dealer.

– The BT Drive Free 311 meets the Bluetooth specifi cation v2.1 + EDR. The fl awless function between the BT Drive Free 311 and Bluetooth-ready cell phones from diff erent manufacturers and of diff erent types cannot be guaranteed since it depends on the compatibility.
