Welcome

Beach Soccer beats new landmarks,welcomes new territories and designsnew realities

It is a great pleasure for me to greet you all again at theend of a new year in Beach Soccer. And it is mainly sobecause the new season has proven that we are on theright track to see the sport grow and grow. Too manythings have happened during this last 12 months not toconsider this 2011 as a key year for the sportdevelopment, a stage which, thanks to great efforts anda lot of passion, have brought significant steps forwardwhich will set a referential point in our history.

This 2011 will be remember for good as a year in whichthe dream of seeing the Clubs competition came true.The I Mundialito de Clubes, held in Sao Paulo in March,opened the door to a whole new life for the sport. And, asanticipated, the clubs competition is here to stay, withthis desire firmly backed by an amusing success both interms of media interest and competition standards.

Another of the wonderful news about this last seasonwas the opening of new venues, which added even moreglamour and brightness to the World-scale circuit. Miamiand Lagos joined the BSWW Tour, delivering, togetherwith Samsung Intercontinental Cup Dubai, three greatcompetitions that will for sure stay in the Beach Soccercalendar for a long time, confirming at the same timethat Beach Soccer is a worldwide citizen.

Together with the turning point set by Russia’s winningthe FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and ending Brazil’sdominion, it is an irrefutable fact that thecompetitiveness and entity of all the squads has alsoexperienced a remarkable growth, and this is also a greatsymptom of the sport’s excellent health.

After all these facts, and the incorporation of thewomen’s beach soccer we are working hard on, the routeis set for the new golden objective, one we feel to be inthe right path to: the Olympics. It is an ambitious goal,and there’s a lot to fight for, yet, but the prize is morethan worth it...

Beach Soccer, then, is stronger than ever, and we justwanted to say one thing for that: Thank you for being akey part of it. Thank you for making it happen.

TV coverage

The love story between Beach Soccer and TV keeps as strong as ever, and thesport got further confirmed this season as a perfect Small Screen product.Figures set this even clearer, with a very successful 2012 season in whichmany broadcasters jumped aboard and joined the party of a fast-growing sport.

The usual Giant platforms, such as Eurosport, FOX, Al Jazeera, Super Sport,Rede Globo and so strengthened their relationship with Beach Soccer, andimportant newcomers joined the spectrum to shape a great Worldwidecoverage map. Through the new agreements this year, more supporters, inmore countries than before, could enjoy the thrilling action of the sport.

During the whole season, the games broadcasts reached more than 540million households, getting the action to the screens of more than 180countries worldwide.

This was accomplished thanks to the involvement of up to 24 majorbroadcasters, whose coverage area left almost no territories uncovered.

These figures were even significantly increased when dealing with newsvideos. In an event such as the BSWW Miami Cup, for instance, AssociatedPress and Sports News Television took the images of the games to up to 1000million households globally.

For the first time also this year, every single event was produced in HighDefinition, hence securing all details to travel through the waves and let thesports followers every single movement happening on the sand.

Breaking records yearafter year, www.beachsoccer.com gets confirmed as the main point ofinformation about the Beach Soccer world, offering at the same timeinteractive and exclusive contents such as games, videos, albums, calendar,etc. As a result of being the quickest and most reliable channel for all the fansof Beach Soccer, is today firmly established as the main source of informationwhen it comes to the most beautiful version of “The Beautiful game”.

Euro Beach Soccer League (EBSL) 2011 format

The Euro Beach Soccer League brings the top national teams from the entire continent tocompete head to head in a thrilling summer-long league format. Originally started back in1998, this exciting continental competition has been constantly gaining reputation andcatching the attention of more and more countries.

The competition travels from place to place with the league setting up camp for a weekendat a time, attracting large crowds of spectators and giving each event a unique feel for thetelevision audience. BSWW are always looking to improve, and confirming this fact, theBeach Soccer entity created the following format to try and standardize its most prestigiouscompetition.

The EBSL 2011 featured again four preliminary events in four different stages around theold continent, being the one in Bern the opening leg of this year’s season. Next stops forthe ESLB locomotive this season were Berlin (July 8th-10th), Ravenna (July 15th-17th) andThe Hague (July 29th-31st). The best teams during these stages headed for the final battle inMoscow (August 4th-7th), where the EBSL Superfinal raised Russia as the best team inEurope, just weeks before Likhachev’s team made history by snatching Brazil the WorldCup.

As usual, the EBSL 2011 was divided into two separate divisions, Division A and Division B.Division A consists of the 8 top teams in Europe based on the BSWW European Ranking.Division B consists of the lower ranked teams and new entries to the competition. Eachdivision has its own regulations and competition format.

In each EBSL venue there were four teams competing in the Division A pool and three in theDivision B pool, facing each other in a round-robin format. Each team competed in twopreliminary events to see their points obtained accumulated into an overall ranking thatdetermined the teams qualified for the Superfinal in Moscow (August 4th-7th).

The same system worked for Division B contenders. The four EBSL stage winners plus therunner-up with better figures in the season got into the Promotion Final, in which theybattled together with the lowest ranked team in Division A to gain a slot in the top-flightdivision for the following season, being France the ones to do so, avenging last year’sexchanged roles with Turkey.

Portugal become the new Kings of Europe

The Portuguese team became the new European Beach Soccer League champions, afterthey beat Italy in the Superfinal held in Lisbon, achieving this way the trophy for thefourth time so far. The match, as expected, was absolutely hard-fought, since theLusitanian were to contest the best Italy, who had reached this Superfinal in a greatshape, inflicting emphatic defeats to all their opponents.

Spain and Israel, first winners!

Italy snatches second place in the EBSL Bern 2011 afterbending Switzerland in the last game

La Roja did not slow down their march after mathematically winning yesterdaythe Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011 stage, and got rid today of acheeky Turkey that, although being their first stage in Division A, left a greatimpression. Spaniards clinch this way their ninth points in Switzerland andhave their foot at the door of the EBSL Super Final.

One of the new sensations of Joaquin’s squad, Nelson, got the opener for hisside, during the first period, and it was not until mid second leg that one of theTurkish target men, Ayhan, leveled things. But the Ottoman joy was ephemeral,since in the next minute, another newcomer, Aceitón, would rocket a ball in forthe 2-1. In the following minutes, the Spaniards increased their advantage, andJuanma and Beiro made it 4-1, only to see Erhan cutting it a bit with his fourthgoal in the tournament.

The 4-2 was stuck on the scoreboard for most of the last period, until Ayhan,with his second hit today, made the afternoon uneasy for La Roja. At least, thefour minutes yet to be played. But experience was Spain’s best weapons in thatlast seconds, and Turkey could not find any crack to Xan’s nets, and the victoryfell on the Spanish side.

Italy’s efficacy is superior to the Swiss

Switzerland could not keep the second place in this first Euro Beach SoccerLeague 2011 stage of Bern. The hosts found it impossible to recover after asolid beginning by the Azzurri, and ended hopeless in front of the Italianexpertise. When the transalpine are ahead, it is difficult to bring them down.The Swiss knew it very well today.

Italy were better during the first stages of the game, and enjoyed severaldangerous chances to step ahead. Finally, Soria would sweep the Azzurri infront with a bright finishing, and Leghissa would dive to head a ball in after agreat strategy movement just seconds afterwards. Things began turning toouphill for hosts Switzerland, and although Schirinzi cut the distance in the firstminute of the second half, the 2-1 would remain until the next break.

Only twelve minutes left for Switzerland to try the final attack for the game, butit did not work. Instead, Italy took an excellent advantage of the Swiss needs,and two new goals by Soria finished all local chances, as well as gave theItalian number 9 the

Israel win the Division B stage in the EBSL Bern 2011

Israel will be in Moscow next August, fighting for the ticket to Division A. Lam’ssurprising side ran over favourites Ukraine and thanks to a 5-2 victory becamethe Division B champions of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Bern 2011, whatautomatically guarantees them a place in the EBSL Promotion Final.

The Israeli, although facing the current champions of the European Qualifierfor the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, were confident in their possibilities, andthat confidence was finally rewarded. They knew that they needed to beextremely competitive today, and they were, conceding their opponents fewchances, and forcing them to do their best in every ball, in every clash, in everyrun. A rushing beginning was worth one goal for Israel, but that was not enoughto get in control of the game, since Ukraine knew how to shift things on theirfavour and Riabchuk and Andreiev made it 1-2 rather quickly. But Amar waseven quicker to strike back for the 2-2 which closed the first period.

That first horn somehow signaled the end of the road for Ukraine, too. As fromthe second period on, Israel commanded the game, stepping ahead for thesecond time, thanks to Yatim, never letting their opponents recover. Instead,they leant on a precise counterattack to progressively widen the distance withan amazing goal by captain Iloz, and the fifth by Yatim, which finally securedthe first place, and the ticket to the Promotion Final, for Lam’s side.

The Euro Beach Soccer League reached Berlin for the first time ever and onlythe best setting would do for such an important event. The Beach SoccerStadium was set by the amusing facilities of the O2 World, definitely achievingthe best venue for the German stage of the top European Beach Soccertournament. Its central location, and the never-ending possibilities it offerscompleted in the best possible way the international Beach Soccer party for anunforgettable experience.

Mike Keller, managing director of the O2World explained the high value of thisrelationship between Beach Soccer and arena’s excellent facilities: “This year,the prestigious Euro Beach Soccer League tournament took place in Berlin forthe first time ever, and we really appreciate that the organizer chose our sitefor the event. The Euro Beach Soccer League – Berlin 2011 stage cup flew to Russian hands,after a breath-taking final which offered the best of Beach Soccer: ten amazinggoals, a great atmosphere, and two of the best teams in the world battling for acup which only had a rather clear owner at the end of the match.

Fielding an amusing fitness, Russia began putting into siege Graça’s goal, withtwo shots in the first seconds of the game top ut the Portuguese goalie intoserious difficulties. After those overwhelming first minutes, Portugal regainedtheir breath and looked to Bukhlitskiy’s end. Madjer could have opened thescore when being conceded a penalty kick, but the excellent Russiangoalkeeper guessed his aim and prevented the captain to sweep ahead thecurrent champions. Just a couple of minutes afterwards, instead,Krasheninnikov managed the opener for his side to get to first break ahead onthe score.

This is exactly the scenario no team wants to be thrown at: if Russia getsahead, it gets really difficult to block their march to the triumph. But if there’s ateam capable of doing so, this is magic-packed Portugal, with players capableof doing real harm at any moment. It is not only Madjer or Belchior, but anyother. Coimbra was this time the one to voice that the Lusitanians are an all-round team full of resources, and thanks to a wide-range attempt managed the

equalizer in front of the 2000 people witnessing one of the best possiblebattles in this sport. And that was not the end of the work done by theunsuspected hero numbered 2, as some minutes afterwards he himself drovea strong race to reach the ball and sent it out of Bukhlitskiy’s reach for the turn-around completion.

Portugal was in the right vibe, and Ze Miguel’s lads willed not to leave thechance to get a higher advantage. When the last minute of that second leg wasinching to the horn, the red side built a brilliant collective move, back-heel passby Madjer included, for Bruno Novo to finish and raise the 3-1. Russia got thenback on duty with the beginning of the third period, with Eremeev cutting thedistance. But current title-holders were feeling strong, and Madjer restored the2-goal gap.

But in that frenetic first minutes of the last period, the Russians confirmed theywere not to give up regardless the distance to climb. Shishin was the man tocarry that flag. Russia’s 6 not only balanced the score in just 90 seconds, butwith two new goals got the cup to Russian hands.

Romania secures top-flight points

Romania left Turkey with no chance of points in their Division A debut, securingat the same time they will be a Division A team next season, as the Ottomanwill not be able to equalize the three points already at Romanian hands. Itcannot be said that it is a fair ending for Turkey, as they have shown really goodthing in thei matches this season. But the highest-level beach soccer is fiercelycompetitive, and you need to be really tough to edge the great teams involvedin the competition.

Turkey determinedly sought their opponent’s goal in the first minutes,acknowledging that this match against Romania was the last chance to skiphaving to fight for their top-flight berth in next month’s Promotion Final inMoscow (August, 4th-7th). They targeted it, and were quite successful in theirquest, as Ayhan achieved the opener for the Ottoman with just one minutegone. Only the posts prevented Turkey for a wider advantage in an inspired firstperiod for Adil’s lads.

Romania reacted after the break, indeed, in the very first move, when Croileveled things with the 1-1. Turkey did not want to let their chance go, andTamer immediately replied to recover the advantage for his side. TheCarpathians had stepped back onto the game, and they had done it for good.Boata and Maci turned the score around and kept with the stroke exchangewhich led to the 5-4 by the Romanian target man, one of the best players inEurope. Although Turkey kept trying, the Romanian defense sent all balls out tosnatch their first three points in the season, with which they assure they will notface relegation this season. Now is the moment to look for higher things forMaci, the Postes, and co.

Czech Republic snatches the Promotion Final berth

Germany saw the Cup fly to Czech Republic in the last match of the Euro BeachSoccer League stage they were hosting. After being surprised in the first period,the Mannschaft found it difficult to cope with the game, as they never managedto get ahead, and remained unable to retain the trophy within its frontiers.

Things began in a hard way for the hosts. Although they had got in control ofthe game, and were attempting to open the score to give their crowd adeserved joy, they were faced to the Czechs first goal. Dannilo rocketed a ballin for the equalizer, giving the game a new beginning for Germany. But in thatnew beginning, the Czechs were even tougher, as they got 1-3 ahead in the firstminutes of the second period.

Ulle cut that distance a bit, but Mizar poured a last bucket of cold water overthe German heads when, right from the corner, sent the ball in, catching Klonand his defenders by surprise, and raising the 4-2 on the score. With 4 minutesto go, the hosts kept trying to launch the comeback, but all their attempts werefruitless. Instead, Czech Republic finished the game, with Lukic and Kovarikmaking it 2-6 to seize the Division B first position. The Czechs, then, enjoyedthe chance to fight in the Promotion Final for a place in Division A next season.

Alpines beat Italy to end as winners of this third EBSL stageand secure their place in Moscow. France will be there, too

Switzerland raised the Cup of this Euro Beach Soccer League – Ravenna 2011,after bending hosts Italy in a hard fought last game, tightly unbalanced thanksto the goals by Rodrigues and Leu. With the points achieved so far, the Alpinesfind themselves mathematically in the Super Final, whereas Italy, with ninepoints is almost virtually in Moscow, too.

Although the Italians needed a wide victory to have the chance to keep the Cupat home due to their heavy defeat yesterday, the Azzurri were set to go for it.Switzerland, in turn, though in taking the opportunity of already securing theirplace to fight for the European throne, without needing to fear any miracle byPoland in the last stage in The Hague. Both teams felt the highest of respectstowards their opponent and preferred not to get too uncovered during the firststages.

It was not until the 8th minute of the second leg that Rodrigues invented anunforgettable overhead kick to blast the ball at the back of the Italian nets. Thebest goalkeeper of the tournament, Italian Simone Del Mestre, could donothing to prevent the ball in as the missile by Swiss number 5 wasunstoppable. The match changed at that moment. Being already down in thescore, hosts could do nothing but going into attack and try to change thecourse of things. They put Valentin’s goal under their crosshair, but nothingworked for them. Instead, Leu found the way to Del Mestre’s nets with apowerful free kick to make it 0-2.

There were just 4 minutes left, and the Alpine side would not take any risk.They made a couple of steps backwards and closed lines tight wight Valentin,leaving Italy no chance to react and seizing the Cup.

Unbelievable come back by Romania gets them virtuallyin Superfinal

An amazing comeback by Romania against Poland boosted Maci’s side into theEuro Beach Soccer League Superfinal. In this third stage of the EuropeanLeague, the Romanian turned a really unfavourable 0-3 into a 4-3 in the laststage of their last game in the regular phase to clinch their ninth points. Now,they place themselves among these teams that may get into this year’s SuperFinal, and only mathematics after the last stage in The Hage (July 29th –31st)and an outstanding performance by Poland in Dutch soil could leave themout.

Things began in a really harsh way for the Carpathians, as Saganowski andGolebowski made it really uphill for them with a 0-3 in the first period. But, justas the Romanian’s did last season when they seemed out of the race againstSpain, an unveliebable come-back, finished in the last seconds, made themvirtually a Super Final contender. Today, against Poland, two goals by M. Posteand another one by Tanase left the score 3-3 by mid last leg.

Maybe the hardest part of the way was already done, and the dynamics of thegame seemed to point for a dramatic last minutes. Although maybe theRomanians were the ones to try it more determinedly, Poland had theirchances too. Effectively, the ending was absolutely exciting, with Croi sending along-range attempt right into Polish goalmouth, making his team put one feetand a half in Moscow.

France to fight for top-flight place!

France will have the chance to get their Division A back in next month’s EuroBeach Soccer League Promotion Final. Les Bleus secured that opportunity afteredging Azerbaijan in a match that, although seemingly under control, couldhave ended up dramatically for François’ team, as just some centimeters leftthe Azeri ball apart from the French goal line in the last minute, when the resultwas 3-2. But the ball did not reach Ruiz’s nets, and Edouard managed the final4-2 in a smart header, tricking Vagif completely.

A first header by Basquaise put France on the road to Moscow in the beginningof the first period, and the French seemed to have enough with that littleadvantage. Elvin, with the first of his two goals, showed them they were fullymistaken, achieving the equalizer in exactly the same minute of the secondperiod. Edouard came to the rescue, catching a refusal by the Azeri goalkeeperto sweep his team ahead again, this time, for good. Soares widened thedistance with a great header for the 3-1 before that second period was over.

That advantage became even more comfortable after seeing that Azerbaijanwere kind of afraid to go all forth looking to do harm, and it was only in a freekick conceded by goalkeeper Ruiz that they could cut the distance. Almostwithout having done any merits to it, Hatamov’s team was just one goal down,and they could even caused Les Bleus a major upset if that last ball had foundthe other side of the line. But, as stated, it did not, and France will be one ofthe big names next month in Moscow.

Portugal gets stripes back in the Hague

Lusitanians edge Russia to win the last EBSL stage beforeMoscow, as Holland reacts in time to get into Promotion Final

Not even one month later, Portugal managed to claim their revenge afterRussia clinched the cup in the second stage of the current Euro Beach SoccerLeague, held in Berlin. In the last stage before the Superfinal, the currentEuropean champions managed to dominate a strongest-than-ever RussianNational team in the last match in The Hague. As expected, the match was aloud crash among two extremely competitive teams, and only little detailsmade the difference to unbalance the final result.

One of these differences was Portuguese number 10, Belchior, showing abetter aim than anyone on the sand. Awarded as the tournament’s top scorertwo goals by the super-talented Portuguese forward came at key moments,rescuing Portugal first with the 2-2 equalizer, and getting the final differencewith the 5-3 when Russia was pushing strong for a late comeback. On the otherside, things did not work well enough and, although counting on the stage’sMVP, Shaykov, Likhachev’s team did not found proper solutions to theiropponent’s solidness.

This last win places Portugal as third in the overall season rankings, followingRussia as the leader and Switzerland, in the second place. So, anything canhappen in the Superfinal in Moscow next week.

Great Dutch reaction gets them to Moscow

It was not as easy as the final score may point… Holland needed to suffer formore than half of the game to see the score turn to their side and open thedoors to the Superfinal. But, backed by a wonderful crowd, the hosts managedto turn the score around to finally achieve their objective: having the chance tofight for a Division A berth in Moscow next week.

England began the game pouring cold water on the stands animosity, withFunnell sending the ball in after the kick-off whistle. The Netherlanders knewthat, although having fell relatively easily against Greece, England’s spirit couldturn into a menacing weapon at any stage, something soon proved. The out-of-the-Dutch-script beginning by the English went further that, and Day flashedeveryone with an amazing scissor kick for the 0-2. Things were getting too riskyfor the Orange, who seemed not to find the crack in their opponent’sresistance.

It was not until the very last minute of the first period when one of the localheroes, Van Geldermalsen offered a new dose of his sublime talent to cut thedistance in the score, and bring a bit of hope to the scared Dutch hearts.England was confident on their possibilities, though, and Funnel again restoredthe distance in the score, disabling the Netherlander efforts so far. The gamewas heading to the end of the second period, and nothing seemed to work forthe hosts, who saw how they were being sent out of the Promotion Final. But afree kick by Ax threw some light to that darkness, and allowed the Dutch to getto the second break just one goal down.

The final reaction that would send Holland to the Promotion Final finally cameat the last stage. A 5-0 run in that last 12 minutes not only managed to turn thescore around, but crushed all English chances and secured the ticket toMoscow amid a true party.

Last Polish swipes to get first points

After having been really unlucky so far, Poland finally got a sweet closing totheir season, with a convincing victory over Spain in their last match in thisEuro Beach Soccer League. The Polish had brought exciting performances andoffered fierce resistance to all the opponents they had faced so far, but luckhad not been on their side and their standings could not be opened yet. Butthey did it, erasing at the same time any little danger of being sent toPromotion Final.

One of the beasts on the sand, Saganowski, put Poland into a comfortableadvantage with his unstoppable left foot. Three swipes by the Polish captainmade the score 0-3 by mid second period. Spain were fighting to reach theSuperfinal in the second place of the European league chart, and tried to reactto that siege they were suffering, but Merida’s and Jorge’s hits were quicklyneutralized by Goledioski’s and Stasiak’s for the final 2-5.

The Euro Beach Soccer League could not have a better ending for Russia, afterwinning the Superfinal in an unforgettable match against Switzerland. Thebattle between the two European superpowers held the real essence of BeachSoccer, adding a dramatic ending of the game with the Russian turning arounda really difficult situation.

The crowd was ready to enjoy a great party in Moscow. 'Les Bleus' avenge defeat against Turkey in last Promotion Final tobecome again a Division A team

France paid Turkey back in kind today. The French revenge lasted just one year to come tosend the Turkish to the Division they were condemned to after last year’s Promotional Final.It was Les Bleus moment, it was what they had been waiting for during the whole season,and they claimed what they were owed after last summer’s painful ending to go back to thetop-flight division for next year.

Turkey proved they were to be a hard nut to crack in the beginning of the match, when Seyitswept the Ottomans ahead. But the French key player today, Didier Samoun, began hisflashing performance shortly afterwards, and with two goals turned the score around to dryout the Turkish advantage. Baris balanced things back, and so did Tamer after a new hit byFrance’s number 5 for the 2—3.

The match was as hard-fought as expected, and it seemed impossible to forecast who was togo in Division B and who was to get in Division A next season. But the French would not lettheir opponents surprise them again, and Pagis pushed them ahead with the 3-4 to begin theFrench winning run, completed by Mendy and Samoun, that would take France back to wherethey belong: the elite.

Uruguay breaks the bank!

The Charrua cause major upset in Rio Quente after baggingthe Copa Latina home against hosts Brazil on penalty kicks

Competitors got far too uncomfortable for Brazil in the Copa Latina, a title theysaw fly away for the second time in a row. Uruguay followed Chile’s last yearsteps, and snatched the cup from Brazilian soil after a leveled match whichneeded the penalty shootout for the final decision. The tenth crown for hostswill have to wait, at least, until next year, in the XIIIth edition.

Seeing the Celeste concentration and focus, Brazil wanted to get in control ofthe game as soon as possible, backed by the more than 2.500 people packingthe Hot Park stadium, in the Rio Quente Resorts. They managed it, thanks to anunfortunate deflection by Fabian, who ended up sending André ball inside hisown net. After that first hit, Brazil handled the match during the first period,but, although they enjoyed a couple of great chances, the score by the end ofthe first period remained 1-0.

Uruguay strengthened their defensive disposition during the second time, cutthe Brazilian creation and managed to turn the score around, thanks to Nico’sdoublet. Benjamin came again to the rescue for the verdeamarela, and with along range shot managed the equalizer for the hosts. The canarinha captainwas in charge of the third goal, as well, leaving the score 3-2 up, and giving wayto probably the best Brazilian minutes in the whole game. Betinho crashed aball against the post, and Diego’s saves prevented any new verdeamarelaattempt in. In turn, Fabian could get even with his unlucky role in the first goalof the game and equalized the score again: 3-3.

Extra time was not enough for any of the contenders to put both hands on thetrophy and the match necessarily headed for the penalty shootout. Obviously,Uruguay knew than the 9 meter spot equals any forces, and took the bestadvantage of it. Fabian, again, took the responsibility for the Celeste side, anddid not miss the chance. But Benjamin, instead, could not celebrate his 300

caps with a new decisive goal, and Diego’s hands finally sent the Copa Latinato Uruguay.

In the other game of the day, Mexico secured the third place after beatingArgentina (7-6 )in a true goal-party. Plata, with 3 goals, and Barbosa, with two,were the key factors for the current CONCACAF champions in this last game, inwhich Maturin and Rodriguez completed the run. The goals by Franceschini (2),Joel (2), Vivas and Leguizamon were not enough for the albiceleste.

Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup 2011:A whole Beach Soccer experience

International Beach Soccer got to the sands of Florida and it did so in fullshape. The Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup 2011 staged some of the bestteams in the world for a complete high-level Beach Soccer tournamenthappening in South Beach. In the temporary stadium set on the sand at theBeach Polo facilities, Brazil, undisputable kings of the sport played their role toclaim the Cup, but it was nothing easy for them against the spirited hosts USA,who ended up as runner-ups, current CONCACAF champions Mexico and Spain,one of the traditional European powerhouses.

The event brought the best of beach soccer. Not only speaking about its assetsas the most spectacular version of the beautiful game, but also as a whole all-round spectacle. The 47 goals scored (for an average of 8 goals per game), theamazing moves and the flying of the Fair Play flag are only a part of the party,the atmosphere and the special taste of the Beach Soccer events. And thatspecial flavour was fully savored in Miami’s South Beach, where the standswere packed, the music played loud and the passion travelled from the sand tothe seats in the same intensity as it did the other way round.

But high-performance beachsoccer was not the onlyspectacle on display on theSouth Beach sand, since thisBSWW Miami Cup counted onmany different actions tobring even more excitementon. One of the coolest was acelebrity Beach Soccer game,scheduled for Sunday 1st

May, 14:30 hours, featuringsome of the current mostpopular pop singers, actors,musicians, sportsmen, whowill join the action to jumponto the venue pitch for areally eye-catching match.

Former footballers such asWorld Champion ChristianKarembeu, Juan PabloGalavis, current Miami FCplayer, the Quijano Brothers(Manolo and Óscar), fromSpanish group Café Quijano,Mexican actor HéctorSoberón, and many others,did not want to miss thechance of jumping onto thesand and spending awonderful time playing thissoccer modality, as well asbringing a great time to allthose sitting at the stands.

Besides the celebrity match, an emotional concert by Spanish star singerAntonio Orozco and two fashion by ANK and shows boosted onsite the glamourand the beauty in this colourful event to turn it into an unforgettable memory.

Time for thinking in green, too

Besides the flashes and the highest level sportsmen on the sand, there wasalso the time for thinking about the world surrounding us. Beach Soccer is

much more than the most spectacular version of the Beautiful Game. Its spiritgoes beyond the magic, the fight and the effort on the sand, since this sportcannot be understood without the respect to its privileged setting, without itstaking care of the beaches. This environmental conscience is one of the mainconcerns of The Beach Soccer Foundation, which organized the “Clean theBeach 2011” action right before the beginning of this Beach Soccer WorldwideMiami Cup. More than 200 people took part in this initiative, doing their bit tokeep the sand safe, including all the teams involved in the tournament, thecheerleaders and VIPs such as footballer Christian Karembeu, Spanish actressAna Obregón or Bolivian Businessman, Marcelo Claure.

A solidarity auction closed this amazing party. In collaboration with the VocesFoundation, Beach Soccer Worldwide organized this action to help raisingfunds to help the underprivileged children. The auction consisted in the sellingof a Mexico National Football team T-shirt signed by Rafa Márquez, Chicharitoand all the rest of the players, and a FC Barcelona outfit, also autographed bythe whole squad, with Messi, Xavi, Villa, Puyol… The initiative turned into ahuge success, achieving to collect a significant quantity which will travel,directly, to the hands of those who need it most.

Penalty kick shootout gives USA the second place in this firstedition of the Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup

The Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup 2011 closed its curtains with anamazing match again, facing the South American Champions, Brazil, with theirNorthern and Central American homologue, Mexico, for the final fight for theCup. Favorites Brazil played their role and claimed the Cup, but they needed anextra effort to bend the spirited Mexicans. Ramon Raya’s lads gave today a newinstance of their maturity and their huge competitiveness, and they seem to bein the best way to stand as a really fearful team in the upcoming FIFA BeachSoccer World Cup Ravenna/Italy 2011.

After a first period with no change on the score, Mexico hit the net first to makethings extremely different than what the Brazilians had planned. But joy lastedjust one minute for the Azteca, since Buru equalized the score and turned theiropponent’s advantage into just an ephemeral memory. Benjamin, with a greatfree kick attempt turned things around and swept his side ahead just fourminutes afterwards.

The match was already where Brazil wanted it to be. Soares’ side is not only thebest team in the world, but they know how to manage an advantage extremelywell. This is how they build their victories: imposing their opponent thenecessity to strike back, tightening their defensive line almost exasperatingly,and taking the best advantage of their amusing talent to kill the game at anychance. It was a bigchallenge to bring the first FIFA Beach Soccer International event to Miami, andall of our expectations were more than accomplished. The crowd was great,they enjoyed a great spectacle, and we felt a great feedback. We are reallylooking forward to make this Cup a yearly event after seeing the response bythe people and the support from the local authorities, the Greater MiamiConvention and Visitors Bureau, the Miami Dade County and the Beach Polo, towho I honestly want to thank for all their help”.

Penalty kick shootout gives USA the second place

The USA earned their fifth points thank to their better aim from the 9 meterspot in their last match, against Spain. Oscar Gil’s hat trick and Farberoffnerves were the key for the hosts to warrantee the victory against theEuropean, who kept replying any of the American hits. This is exactly whathappened when Alonso and Javi Torres balanced things after the 1-0 and the 2-1.

The match seemed definitely going to American hands when Gil completed hishat trick to put the USA ahead with just two minutes to go. But it just seemedso, since Spain kept looking to Rowe’s end until Javi Torres managed a lastminute equalizer that sent the match into the extra time. Today, these threesupplementary minutes were not enough to untie the score, and the penaltyshootout was the only way to pass the final sentence.

Spaniard’s captain, Nico, took the responsibility first, only to see his attempt hitthe wrong net: The ball went wide over the crossbar and crashed against the

Immeasurable goal for the beach’s health!

200 people took part in the Clean the Beach 2011 program,set up by The Beach Soccer Foundation

The Clean the Beach 2011 action at South Beach turned to be anunforgettable evening. More than 200 people came onboard of this funnyaction set up The Beach Soccer Foundation, which went beyond the BeachSoccer boundaries to recruit people from other spheres. The businessmanMarcelo Claure Sr, the former footballer and World Champion ChristianKarembeu, or the Spanish actress Ana Obregon, among others, have joined allthe players and staff of the four national teams involved in the Beach SoccerWorldwide Miami Cup 2011, the cheerleaders, and the rest of the participantsin their fight for the environment.

All of them have also highlighted the need of making the population awareabout the importance of keeping our beaches clean. Christian Karembeu,1998 FIFA World Cup Champion with France, pointed that “taking care of thebeaches is a duty we all have to accomplish, since it is not only the sand, butthe whole nature what we have to take care of. Its energy, its health issomething we must fight for, because it is something we must warrantee forthe younger generations”.

In turn, the Bolivian businessman Marcelo Claure Sr. wanted to set clear that “Iam very happy to have taken part in this action, and really grateful as well toBeach Soccer Worldwide and the Beach Soccer Foundation for thecommitment they have shown with Miami and our beaches”.

Ana Obregón reinforced those words by assuring that “this initiative is brilliant.It is an absolutely valuable move for the environmental conscience of thepeople. The beach is something really important in our lives and we cannot letanyone ruin it. We all have to do our bit to keep it safe”.

Bitter victory for Portugal

The Mundialito ends up in Brazilian hands despite the hostsvictory in the last match of the competition

Winning Brazil is nothing happening every day. This is why it must be difficultfor Portugal to cope with the bitter sensation after the referee blew his whistlein the last match of the 2011 edition of the Beach Soccer WorldwideMundialito. Due to the triple tie with Mexico, all of them with six points, ZeMiguel’s side saw the cup flee to Brazilian hands although beating them 4-2, inthis new chapter of the battle between the two giants from both ends of theAtlantic Ocean.

Portugal needed a four-goal difference to seize the trophy, besides all theirconcentration and their spirit. These latter two, they lacked not. But they couldnot accomplish the first of the requirements, although getting really close to.With three strokes, the Lusitanian team seemed to be inching towards thatamazing success. Coimbra, Madjer and Belchior, Mundialito’s Top-scorer andMVP, pushed their team to just a one-goal distance to frenzy, but, in just oneminute, Brazil ruined all expectations. Benjamin and Andre, within the same 40seconds, made it 3-2, forcing Portugal to achieve three more goals in thescarce 6 remaining minutes…

Although Jordan boosted the hosts expectations little afterward, the ball did notkiss Mão’s nets again, and the current World Champions reedited their lastyear triumph to add their name to the competition’s records for the 12th time.

Mexico forces goal-average sentence

Mexico played their role in the fight, bending France in the first match of thislast day in Portimao to collect their sixth points, which ended up forcing thecompetition to be resolved through the goal average of the three contenders.Although only Portugal and Brazil could pass sentence, the Azteca went intotheir game against France in a great determination, and by the last minute ofthe first period, they were already 3-0 ahead. Managing the game withauthority, the Mexican’s kept Les Bleus always far in the score, and it was notuntil the very last stage of the game that two goals for France softened a bitwhat seemed to be destined to be a loud result.

Nigeria made history last December. The meaning of what they achieved on thesand of the Eko Atlantic Stadium is just huge, and it became the most powerfulboost for the growth of the sport in Africa. After a brilliant performance, theBeach Eagles knocked Brazil down with a loud victory (9-4) to lift the Cup in thisfirst edition of the Copa Lagos and surprise the world.

The match could not have a sweetest beginning, with Abu sending the verykick-off move in. Getting ahead against Brazil is almost a mandatory thing ifyou want to have any chance of bending the Verdeamarela, so Audu’s ladswere getting along with that ideal script in a very efficient way. Day brilliantly bags last points for England

The European dominion lasted quite a while, and it was not until the seventhminute of the second period, that South Africa could level things back, with aremarkable attempt by Penn. But, once done that, William’s side were not topull the brakes, and one minute afterwards, Gumede turned the score around,thanks to a perfectly aimed free kick shot from the halfway line. That gave theBafana Bafana extra confidence, confirmed when even managing to counteractBowes equalizer with a new stroke, by N. Ndlovu this time.

Clock was ticking down quickly, and when things were getting almostimpossible, captain Blake found the way to break the South African resistance,whipping a long ball in to make it 3-3. After having managed to disarm theiropponent’s resistance, it seemed that Bowes’ lads may be happy in getting toextra time, but the lasts seconds gave room enough to Day to pull a three-pointrabbit out of his hat in the most astonishing way to give his team the thirdposition.

The Copa Lagos, achieved a great prize even without the ball getting even inmotion…The United Nations showed their support and congratulated the CopaLagos for its great value and contribution to the fostering of the development ofdisadvantaged areas in Nigeria through sport. The different social activitiesplanned in the context of the event, such as the football clinics for youth, andthe Clean the Beach and Skin Cancer Awareness projects set up by The BeachSoccer Foundations are regarded by the United Nations as wonderful ideas thatcontribute sustainably to worldwide growth and welfare, precisely the leadingguidelines of the Sport for Development and Peace programme.

As the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on Sport forDevelopment and Peace, Wilfried Lemke, states in the letter addressed to theevent’s organization one week before the beginning of the event, the initiativesled by Copa Lagos 2011 and The Beach Soccer Foundation “transmitimportant ideals of the sport to the participants. The values taughtcontribute to shaping some elementary life skills to the participatingyoung individuals which can be essential for them in the future”.

The former Arsenal FC vice-chairman, one of the biggestGentlemen in Football, talks about his excellent impressionsafter witnessing Beach soccer Live in Copa Lagos

The Copa Lagos Beach Soccer had a very special guest, the former Arsenal FCVice-chairman, David Dein. The gunner dignitary, one of the founding partnersof the Premier League, had a wonderful time, and missed no detail about thegames in Lagos, as he assured: “In fact it was the first time I have everseen beach soccer live. I’ve seen it many times on TV, but being here,particularly in Lagos, and thinking that it is starting off in Africa, I havebeen supremely impressed”. The set up of the Copa Lagos was somethingMr. Dein wanted to highlight, as well: “The organization was First-class, theskill-factor was immense, the entertainment for the fans wastremendous, I loved the music, and the whole ambiance…”

The former Arsenal vice-chairman was also struck by the uniqueness of BeachSoccer, acknowledging all that the sport requires and entails: “The crow weregreat, creating a fantastic atmosphere and the quality of the game wasso high: goals flying all the time, from unusual angles, even we had agoalkeeper scoring. It’s a very different skill to playing regular footballon a football pitch. Playing in the sand, you need different skills,different strength, different techniques. Besides, I think the 3-periodformat works perfectly, as it gives the players the time to rest. The

Considering the football passion in Africa, Mr. Dein foresees a great future forBeach Soccer in the continent: “That’s the key thing. Every single countryin Africa is a football loving country, seeing football on TV day in andday out, and it is natural for them to have a ball on their feet, playingon the sand, rather than in Brazil… I can see it developing very veryfast over the next few years”, he assured.

Looking bak to his home country, this football gentleman urges the people incharge of the team and the FA not to miss the train in this fast-growing,ambitious sport: “England should not be left behind. If Beach Soccer isgoing to be a World game, England, as we call ourselves the home offootball, must be a party to it. We have got to be up there and makesure we get a team to compete with the best”.

The Beach Soccer Foundation carried out an action involvingplayers, staff and sponsors

The Copa Lagos had a lovely green opening. Before the action got kicked off atthe Beach Soccer Stadium at Eko Atlantic City, all the participating teams, allthe members of the organization and even some of the sponsors led a newClean the Beach action. The action, organized by The Beach Soccer Foundationhighlighted again one of the main concerns of everyone in the Beach SoccerWorld: taking care of our home, the beach.

The complete squads of England, Nigeria and South Africa, together with two ofthe best players in the Brazilian team, Buru and Bruno, who wanted to makethe great effort of representing their team after more than 20 hours of flightsand connections from Rio de Janeiro, came down Eko Atlantic Beach to showtheir commitment with the environment they live in. All in all, more than 100people grabbed the brooms, plastic gloves and bags and battled the dirt on thesand…

Joan Cusco, Beach Soccer Worldwide Vice-president and CEO was one of thefirst of getting started, and he pointed that “this is one of the things that makeBeach soccer so special. For us, taking care of the Beaches is a mandatorything, it is like a philosophy, a way of living. We cannot understand our sportwithout this conscience part. And, obviously, it is one of the big concerns ofThe Beach Soccer Foundation, which travels the world fighting for better andsafer beaches, besides its Skin Cancer Awareness programs, and the actionsto help the disadvantaged children through sport”.

Brazilian stars Buru and Bruno were really thrilled in taking part again in anactivity they carried on some months ago in Miami: “Of course we are pleasedin doing so. The beach is the place where we work, were we enjoy playingBeach Soccer and it is our duty to make everyone aware of the importance ofkeeping it clean. It is a benefit for everyone!”, they argued.

Great success in Samsung Intercontinental Cup 2011confirms UAE’s resort as one of the sport’s top hotspotsaround the world

Dubai was again confirmed as a top-class venue for the highest level sportscompetitions with this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup. And, justas it was set clear two years ago, when brilliantly hosting the FIFA Beach SoccerWorld Cup 2009, the UAE strongly restates their position as one of the homesto Beach Soccer around the globe. The best teams in the world, with the sixcontinental champions, together with the brilliant red-hot World ChampionsRussia, and hosts UAE built this unforgettable first edition of the competition,offering an amusing contest and attracting huge crowds to the Beach Stadiumat the Jumeirah Beach Residence.

Figures voice it loud: more than 46.000 people packed the stands during thethrilling 5-day competition, in which Russia confirmed they are still on thesweet vibe that lead them to clinch the crown both in the European League andthe FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup last summer. Russia prevails and is crowned champion of theIntercontinental Cup

The reigning world champions claimed the title of theSamsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2011after beating Brazil in a great night of Beach Soccer.

After the final whistle of the second semi-final, Beach Soccer fans could onlywonder what the outcome of the final between the world’s two strongestsquads would be. One thing was certain; it was definitely a promisingencounter, and the repeat of this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup final wasfar from disappointing. Although the first period was goalless until its lastseconds, both teams produced some great chances taking risks in order totake the lead. However the stalemate was only broken with five secondsremaining in the first period through Anderson’s strike giving Brazil theadvantage in the match.

With half the stadium cheering for the Eastern Europeans and the other half forthe Verdeamarela, the match kept growing in intensity. The Russians, on onehand, were demonstrating why they were crowned world champions thissummer. The Brazilians, on the other hand were on the pitch to show that theywere still to be considered a Beach Soccer giant. The second periodmaintained the high quality of both teams as well as the tight competition thatexists between them with Russia relying on their tactical excellence and Brazilmaking use of their unmistakable magic. Shishin equalized with 4 minutesremaining in the second half while the South Americans took the lead onceagain in the last seconds of the same period thanks to a precise Fernando Ddishot.

It wasn’t until the third period that the goals began flowing when the teamsrealized that the final whistle was getting close. It was Shaykov who scored thefirst goal of the period to level the score once again. Captain Leonov, threeminutes later, gave Russia the lead while Shishin increased the gap by scoringhis team’s fourth with 6 minutes left in regular time. Brazil’s pride did notpermit for the match to end this way though and scored two goals in oneminute to lead the match into an extra time that was the only possible rewardfor both teams’ efforts tonight. The first two minutes were a constant stream ofattacks from one side to the other but it was Shishin once again, who, with asublime finish, gave Russia yet another title this year becoming champions ofthe first ever Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup.

Switzerland fight to claim third place

Switzerland beat the UAE on penalties after a fantastically played match fromboth sides winning them third place of the Intercontinental Cup. Both teamsput on quite a show in front of a packed stadium that did not stop cheeringthroughout the whole match.

The match started on a high note with the UAE scoring after less than a minuteof play thanks to a powerful shot from Ali Karim. It didn’t take long though forthe Swiss to get into the game with Ziegler scoring after some nice collective

play just a minute later. The hosts proved to be a very well structured team, asthey have done throughout the entire tournament, holding back theiropponents during the first period.

With the match being hardly fought between both teams, Stankovicdemonstrated his fantastic form by scoring a beautiful backheel halfwaythrough the second period giving Switzerland the advantage for the first time inthe match. Borer made it 3 for the Europeans with a hard fought solo playfinished with a strong shot which flew into the back of Humaid’s net. This goalallowed them to start taking control of the match giving them confidence tomake the gap even bigger with Stankovic’s second for the night.

This control, however, was short-lived thanks to the locals’ refusal to go downwithout a fight. Ali Karim regained his inspiration and scored two practicallyidentical goals with two brilliantly taken free kicks to make it 4-3. Making life sweeter with Beach Soccer…

The Beach Soccer Foundation brought a wide smile to thechildren from the All 4 Down Syndrome Dubai

One of the most special events during the Samsung Beach SoccerIntercontinental Cup 2011 was a lovely beach soccer clinic with children fromthe All 4 Down Syndrome Dubai, a NGO whose aim is to support families,create awareness among the general public and in schools, bring expertisefrom abroad with the aim of training professionals and parents to aninternational standard for special needs, thereby creating the sameopportunities for these children in the UAE.

The Beach Soccer Worldwide Officials, through The Beach Soccer Foundation,organized a series of activities to get the children in direct touch with a sportthey immediately fell in love with. During the afternoon, all of them had a greattime and enjoyed the games with the ball, shooting on goal, the flipping passes,etc. to end up in a Beach Soccer game involving all of them.

Dave Richards was amazed by the thrilling pace of the sportin the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup held inDubai

The opening day on the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup wasgraced with the presence of two very special guests: the FA Premier LeagueChairman, Dave Richards, and the president of Bolton Wanderers, PhilGartsyde, who witnessed the last two matches of the first matchday in the JBRBeach Stadium. Accompanied by Dr Ahmed Al Sharif, General Secretary of theDubai Sports Council, and Ali Muttawa, Financial Director, as well as BeachSoccer Worldwide vice president Joan Cusco. Richards and Gartsyde wereamused by the flashing pace of the game on the sand, and the spectacularmoves it brings on.

The FA Premier League head also assured that the sport has a great potentialin the United Kingdom, and pointed that it would be a great idea to developextensive programs in Beach Soccer formation, both for players and coaches.As Richards himself highlighted the modality has great room to grow on such ahuge football-tradition country, and the upcoming years need to mean asignificant step forward in its evolution.

Russia pulls Portugal down the top of the chart

This 2011 was undeniably the golden year for the Russian Beach Soccer Team. Theirawesome performance merited them not only their first FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, butalso the Euro Beach Soccer League 2011 and the Samsung Beach Soccer IntercontinentalCup Dubai 2011, having, besides, their Captain Ilya Leonov and their goalkeeper AndreiBukhlistkiy awarded as MVP and Best Goalkeeper in Ravenna. And, as expected, theseamazing figures turned into a tasty reward in both the 2011 season and Overall rankings,coping the peak in both of them.

After collecting such a huge amount of points during the year, it was surprise to no one thatLikhachev’s side would establish themselves at the top of the 2011 ranking, which takesinto consideration the Euro Beach Soccer League results as well as the performances in theBSWW Mundialito (Portimao), the BSWW Nations Cup (Linz), the BSWW Miami Cup, theBSWW Copa Lagos and the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai. But, theywent even beyond that, as, with 450 points in just one year, they overtook Portugal as theleaders of the general ranking, sending Madjer and co. to the second step of the ladder.

On their side, Switzerland kept climbing positions, and after getting the 2011 second place, theSwiss jump into the 3rd position of the overall ranking, mainly thanks their great performancesin the Euro Beach Soccer League and the Intercontinental Cup in Dubai.

Precisely on the opposite way, Spain loses another position in the Overall chart, standing now inthe 4th place after this 2011 was not that sweet for Alonso’s lads. With only one big victory, theone achieved in Bern in the first stage of the Euro Beach Soccer League, La Roja ended thisyear as the sixth best team in the old continent, so the number of points they collected wasquite scarce…

Significant jump by Romania and IsraelIn turn, the highlighted cliffhanger of the season is Romania. Their brilliant Euro Beach SoccerLeague performances, even making it to semifinals in the Superfinal in Moscow, granted themthe points to finish the year in the 4th position, and jump four slots in the overall ranking toplace themselves in the 6th position of the general chart. Although on a lower scale, Israel werethe ones making the biggest leap in the chart, as they climbed from the 23rd to the 15thposition of the ranking, mainly thanks to their EBSL – Division B triumph in Bern, and their thirdplace in the Promotion Final.

This Mundilaito de Clubes is going to stay in the memories of every beachsoccer fan, player or coach for good. Enjoying such an experience, taking partof the dawn of a new age in the sport, is something to be remembered for live.Together with the best players in the World, seeing the colours of the likes ofCorinthians FC Barcelona, AC Milan or Boca Juniors, among many others, onthe sand, and enjoying the thrilling action of the best Beach Soccer, magichappens even further in the Praia da Sol stadium. The noisy crowd, of coursebecame another important element to empower this Mundialito de Clubes evenfurther.

This rush, this power is something that mainly players felt with a huge intensity.One of the brightest stars in the Beach Soccer Panorama, Portuguese Madjercould not help showing his admiration and excitement for playing under suchconditions: “The atmosphere is simply spectacular. Every player loves to play insuch an environment, with such a devoted, noisy crowd. Beach Soccerdeserved an event like this”.

The Torcida were amazing, too. The Beach Soccer fans packed day after daythe 3.500 seater stadium and brought an unbelievable atmosphere that wentamusingly loud. Flying their banners, jumping on the stands in their team’soutfits and singing their club’s’ hymns, they turned the Represa deGuarapiranga into an unforgettable beach soccer party absolutely worthexperiencing.

This Mundialito the Clubes has meant a lot for the Beach Soccer. It not onlywas a wonderful spectacle for supporters packing the Praia da Sol Stadium,and the millions and millions of Beach Soccer fans who followed it throughthe live broadcasting, but also for everyone involved in such a thrillingcompetition. Beach Soccer experienced up to what extent, the world wanted to be at thisentering into a new reality of the sport. The Mundialito de Clubes put on thesand, for the first time ever, some of the worldwide best-known outfits and noone wanted to miss it. With names such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan,Corinthians, Sporting Clube, Boca Juniors, Lokomotiv Moscow, Flamengo orSantos, among others, there was little room for doubt: It is going to be anunforgettable beach soccer week… And it really was.

Such a turning point for the sport required the broadcasting to be up to thetask. It certainly was, getting a record-breaking TV exposure. All shots, overheadkicks, tackles and saves happening in Praia do Sol stadium were seen, at thatvery same moment, in 109 countries all over the globe thanks to livebroadcasting agreements. More than 25 international broadcasters in the fivecontinents got onboard to secure the rights to shot the Mundialito de Clubes intheir territories, taking the spectacle to millions and millions of householdsworldwide. The Gigante da Colina claims the crown after an excellentperformance against Sporting de Portugal

Vasco da Gama claimed the crown as the Champions of this I Mundialito deClubes. The Giagante da Colina managed to keep the Cup at home after anexcellent performance against Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final of thishistoric competition. The Brazilian side managed to turn the situation aroundafter the Portuguese opener and secured a solid distance in the score theywould work fantastically to maintain until the final horn.Fernando DDI would make things happen early in this thrilling final. With only20 seconds gone by, the Lisboan number 9 scored his 10th goal in thisMundialito to sweep Sporting ahead. In front of the incredibly noisy crowdbacking them, Vasco had to react, and they did so to turn the score around andbecome the ruler of the fixture thanks to Bruno Xavier and Rafinha.

After revolving the situation, the carioca would build a solid defense so thatSporting found it impossible to find any way to Salgueiro’s dominions.Pampero, the tournament’s MVP, widened the gap to make this distance a bitmore comfortable. But that easiness would not last much, since Belchior wouldshorten the distance thanks to a free kick to keep the chase.

Vasco da Gama, though, were absolutely handling the game. Moving the ballquickly and precisely, reaching any lost ball before than the opponent, closingany crack on the rearguard,... In the last minute of the game, Betinho wouldsecure the Brazilian triumph with the fourth hit for Vasco, who would not let thevictory flee and claimed themselves as champions of this I Mundialito deClubes.

Extra time winner gives Flamengo the third place in theMundialito

Clube Regatas Flamengo have finally achieved the third place in thisMundialito, after beating Lokomotiv Moscow in the 3rd/4th place final. In anamazingly leveled match, an extra time winner by defender Souza meant thebronze for the Rubro-Negro side. André, in turn, added a new goal to his 16-hitrecord to get even a wider distance in the highest place of the top-scorer chart.

On an unfortunate morning for the Russian side, the carioca managed alwaysto equalize any advantage achieved by them. Maci opened the score in theseventh minute of the game, giving Lokomotiv a slight distance that would notbe withdrawn during the whole first period. But right from the second time kick-off, Souza balanced things again. The Russian solved the situation really soonthis time, and right in the same way. In the very next move, Leonov sent amissile in from the midfield to get the 1-2. André would manage the secondequalizer for ‘Fla’, but Leonov would secure his team to get to the secondbreak still ahead in the score.

The pattern was to be repeated in the third period, after another of the cariocastars, Anderson, scored for the 3-3. Again, Maci swept the Muscovite aheadwith another of his brilliant moves, but Tavares would again equalize things.That last hit by the Brazilian lads would send the match to extra time. Thingswould change drastically in that extra period, since, this time, it was ‘Fla’ theones to step ahead, thanks to a powerful left-foot shot by Souza. Unfortunatelyfor Lokomotiv, they were not able to parallel the previous pattern, and did notmanage to level things back, what left the Brazilians with the Bronze.

The dream of seeing Beach Soccer become an Olympic modality may be closer than ever,after the significant conversations between FIFA President, Joseph S. Blatter, and thePresident of the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics Organizing Committee and President of theBrazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, and FIFA Vice-president and presidentof the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ricardo Texeira.

Taking advantage of the presence FIFA’s maximum representative in Rio de Janeiro, wherehe attended the Preliminary Draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil and the Beach SoccerCharity Game between Brazil and Japan, the road to Olympism for Beach Soccer wasstrongly dealt with. Beginning with his conversations with Beach Soccer Worldwidepresident, Luis Felipe Tavares, and vice-president, Joan Cusco, and going on with theaforementioned top-representatives later on, the Olympic stage for Beach Soccer was acontinuous and strong topic all through the day.

The outcome of the conversations was extremely positive, as Mr. Nuzman pointed: “BeachSoccer being in the Olympics for the first time in the upcoming games in Brazil in 2016 is agreat idea. I am sure that it would only mean positive things both for the sport and itsfans.”

The FIFA vice-president, FIFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee President and CBFpresident, Ricardo Texeira, on his side, can only hail this exciting possibility: “The inclusionof Beach Soccer [in the Olympic Program] would mean a deserved recognition to the fastgrowth of the sport all around the world. We need to wait until the conversations betweenMr. Blatter and COI’s President, Mr. Jacques Rogge, but I feel really happy to see thesupport from the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee”, he assured.

Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman told the specialized website Around the Rings that if theIOC approves the addition of beach soccer to the Olympic program, the discipline would beone of the highlights of the Games. "It's a great idea. If realized, I'm sure that football andthe fans only can win, and that beach soccer will be one of the biggest attractions in Rio2016", Nuzman told ATR.

As beachsoccer.com informed, FIFA president Joseph S. Blatter and Brazil 2014 presidentand FIFA's Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Ricardo Teixeira dealt with the inclusion ofthe popular modality in the Games when they met with Nuzman ahead of the World Cupqualifying draw in Rio on July 30.

It’s worth remembering, as Around the Rings, highlights, that Beach Soccer is already theshowcase event of the Asian Beach Games, organized by the Olympic Council of Asia.

Around the Rings also explains that “The Olympic program will be reviewed after the London2012 Games. During the evaluation process by the IOC's program commission, beachsoccer could be considered for inclusion at Rio 2016. An exhibition game between World Champions, Brazil, and CONCACAF Champions, Mexico,was held on Monday, May 2nd, in the Beach Soccer Worldwide Miami Cup Venue, as anexciting pre-opening for the CONCACAF 27th Ordinary Congress, part of the Confederation'syear-long 50th anniversary. Together with the game, the VIP tent of the Beach Soccerstadium hosted a reception event for such a key celebration for CONCACAF, featuring FIFApresident, Joseph S. Blatter, UEFA president and FIFA vice-president Michel Platini,CONCACAF president Jack A. Warner, FIFA vice-president Angel Maria Villar, UEFA vice-president, FIFA Executive Committee members Marios Lefkaritis and Chuck Blazer (alsoCONCACAF Secretary General), and FIFA Secretary General, Jérôme Valcke, among others.

All the delegates, executives and members from FIFA and CONCACAF enjoyed a great beachsoccer game in which Brazil staged all their talent again to blast Mexico (1-6). Although thematch was held in a closed-door format, the spectacle fielded the best of the sport, with theeye-catching footballing, the fair play, the music, the sexy touch and the sea aroma. Beach Soccer had its place in one of the most prestigious Footballing events of the year,the FIFA Ballon d’Or Gala, held last January at the Kongresshaus in Zurich. Manyrepresentatives of the modality were invited to the ceremony, as the representation of themost outstanding performers in the last FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, held this lastseptember in Ravenna (Italy).

As a clear symptom of the gain of weight of Beach Soccer in the core of the FootballGoverning Body, FIFA, up to 9 players and coaches were invited to the ceremony, togetherwith Joan Cuscó, FIFA Beach Soccer CEO and FIFA Board Member, and FIFA and BeachSoccer Ambassador Christian Karembeu, who are regular attenders to all FIFAcellebrations. Beach Soccer Wordlwide General Manager, Gabino Renales, was another ofthe personalities attending the Ballon d’Or Gala

Obviously, as the recently crowned World Cup Champions, Russia had in Zurich a goodrepresentation, with coach Mikhail Likhachev, captain Ilya Leonov (Awarded as the FIFABeach Soccer World Cup 2011 MVP) and goalkeeper Andrei Bukhlistkiy (awarded with theFIFA Golden Glove in Ravenna). 32,000 at the stands of the Copa Brazil

Botafogo claims the crown in the successful 1st edition of the CopaBrazil de Clubes de Beach Soccer, held in Manaus

24 May 2011 – Botafogo were crowned as champions in the Copa Brasil de Clubes deBeach Soccer in front of the 32.000 supporters packing the standos of the Arena do CentroCultural dos Povos da Amazônia, in the Brazilian city of Manaus. The Fogão bended currentMundialito de Clubes champions, Vasco da Gama, thanks to a solid 8-3 win to claim thisfirst edition of this national championship featuring eight of the top-class clubs in thecountry. Apart from the these two Rio de Janeiro giants, other clubs such as neighboursFlamengo, Corinthians, Vitoria, Santa Cruz, Sampaio Correia or hosts Manaus took part inthe competition, which proved to be a new instance of the passion the Brazilians feel forthe sport they saw being born at their beaches.

The competition was passionately followed by local fans, and last Friday’s Flamengo-Vascoda Gama broke all records bringing into the stadium up to 31.954 people. This massiveattendance was paralleled also during the matches on Saturday and Sunday, when thesemifinals and finals were played. Needless to say, the atmosphere raised at the ManausColisseum was unbelievable, that of the big Beach Soccer occasions.

Botafogo were better than their city rivals from the very beginning of the match. Yet in thefrist period, Sidney, Juninho and Bruno Malias’ double left the score 4-0 up for the ‘LonelyStar’ Squad. Juninho repeated as well to increase the distance even further, and whenVasco’s reaction came, with the hits by Gil, Osmar and Jorginho making the score 5-3, itwas just a bit too late. Thanks to Leandro’s miracle saves and new lashes by Betinho(playing on the ‘O Glorioso side this time), Juninho and Rafinha, Botafogo brilliantly securedthe cup. Leandro Fanta being awarded as the Best Goalkeeper, and Juninho ast the BestPlayer of the tournament completed the Alvinegro booty, with André (this time playing forCorinthians) claiming the Top-Scorer trophy, just as he did in the Mundialito de Clubes withFlamengo.

In the fight for the 3rd place, Corinthians knocked Flamengo out to get the bronze, gettingthis way a bit even with the bad taste of their bitter performance in the last Mundialito deClubes.

One of the best-known Beach Soccer ambassadors, Frenchman Christian Karembeu, tookactive part in this year’s Soccerex Global Convention. The World Cup and Euro Championwith ‘Les Bleus’ stayed at the Beach Soccer Worldwide – FIFA Beach Soccer stand in thenetworking convention of the Football World, presenting the second season of the mostprestigious Club Beach Soccer competition, the Mundialito de Clubes, to take place againthis coming spring in São Paulo.
