The chosen site is located in between the SKF building and 5 storey shophouses beside the Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah. The buildingis facing the north-west where rar elevation is facing the morning sun and front elevation facing the evening sunlight. The building beside will provide shading for the site during different period.
DaylightingAccoding to MS1525, the daylight factor distribution are:
Quiet study RoomThe space is located at 2nd floor where it seperate from the major building of library where is directly exposed to sunlight during daytime. The study room has a daylight factor of 6.3% and the natural illumination of 1260 lux. The reading is slightly high for a 45.6 m2 space. This will create the issue of glare problem.
Artificial LightingQuiet Study Room
Fitting Layout Plan
To provide sufficient and even distribution of lighting for user to study and work.It is needed to create enough and warm ambiance to light up the space.
Lighting Fixture
Light Type: Philips Downlight (low height recessed version)Lumen: 1350 lmPower:36 w (3000k)

Fitting Layout Plan
MS1525 requirement :300 -500luxNumber of light:6
The reading space need to provide a even light distribution area for people to readand relax.
Reading RoomThe space is located at 1st floor near to the back alley. The space was exposed by a double volume space which provide sufficient daylight for the space. The reading room has a daylight factor of3.8% and the natural illumination of 760 lux. The reading is consider as a good distribution sinceit within a 3-6 range in Ms 1525 daylight factor requirement. The glare can be reduce by using a curtain to reduce the direct sunlight penetration.

There are 30 light fitting in the study room. Con-trolled by 2 switches which can choose toturn it off during day time according to the light needed. SW 1 can be choose to turn offif there are suffiencient daylight-ing in the space. Howev-er, to achieve a uniform lighting and follow the 300 lux requirement of MS 1525, the SW 2 had to turn on during the day.
There are 6 light fitting in the study room. To achieve a uniform light-ing and follow the 300 lux requirement of MS 1525, the SW 1 had to turn on during the day. However, for energy saving, switch 2 can choose to turn off due to the sufficient d a y l i g h t i n g .

Materials
The reverberation time for study room in 500 Hz of absorption coefficient is 1.36s. Accordingto the standard of reverberation time, the standard comfort of study room is within the range of 0.8 to 1.0s.Hence, the reverberation time of study room is not within the standard range of comfort reverberation time currently.
Before
By adding carpet in Study Area. The reverberation time for study room in 500 Hz of absorption coefficient hadreduced from 1.36 s to 0.85 s. which is within the range of 0.8 to 1.0 . Hence, the reverberation time for study room is now within the standard comfort reverberation time.

Reading Area
The overall transmission loss from reading room to reading area is at 32 db.Assume that the sound pressure level in the reading roomis approximately 70dB, the sound that is transmitted through partitions into the reading room is approximately 38dB. Acording to the noise criteria environment perception ,38dB is in the category of whisper sound. It is an ideal value for a reading area where people are focusing on reading and studying.

Building beside provide a good noise buffer from the side road
The heavy traffic produce loud noise that influence noise level inside the library.
