Contractor Authorization to Work

A register and ID pass system centrally reports visiting contractors and captures a signed declaration that any relevant Safety & Health information has been read and understood. The registration log provides an accurate record of time on site, the affected building area and the type of work being conducted.

If this is a high risk activity, the OSHA recommends using a Work Permit.

Contractor Work Permits Each permit is divided into sections covering the job details, a risk assessment of the work involved and a declaration signed by both parties to confirm that all safety & health issues have been considered and any necessary precautions put in place. A one-write duplicate system creates triplicate copies for the contractor, employer and central records.

Applicable StandardsOccupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace.

General Duty Clause of the OSH Act Requires employers to keep their workplace free of serious recognized hazards.

Construction, General Industry, Maritime, and Agriculture standards Require the use of certain safe practices and equipment and require employers to monitor certain workplace hazards.

OSHA Standards These include requirements to provide fall protection, prevent trenching cave-ins, prevent exposure to some infectious diseases, ensure the safety of workers who enter confined spaces, prevent exposure to such harmful substances as asbestos and lead, put guards on machines, provide respirators or other safety equipment, and provide training for certain dangerous jobs.
