The well-being of humanity, the environment, and the functioning of the economy, ultimately depend upon the responsible management of the planet's natural resources. Evidence is building that people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide. By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need three planets to sustain our ways of living and consumption. The WED 2015 theme is therefore "Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care."

Taking this theme forward PHD Chamber is organising conference on “Environmentally Responsible Industry & Beyond”on Friday, 24th July 2015 at Governor House, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand has emerged as one of the most attractive industrial destination in India. The Government is encouraging private participation in all industrial activities. The State with its vast natural resource base, large forest cover and enormous power potential holds of being one of the most prosperous states in the country.

Uttarakhand Forest multiplicity has total area of 65 % of total geographical area which consist of Cedar, Kyle, fur Sprus , Suri ,Oak , Sal ,Teak, Well , Rose wood forest. While laying emphasis on protection of the environment with the help of scientific research crores of revenue is generated from forests. On other hand the general public from various forest based industries receive direct and indirect employment.

Thus the state faces the challenge of promoting livelihoods to minimize migration through local employment and income generation, and to enhance the quality of life of people living in villages.

This can be achieved by working towards this common goal through inf rast ructure deve lopment , tour i sm promotion, agriculture diversification,poultry- and wool-based livelihoods, and SMEs based on the above that capture linkages with industry and tourism.

• Uttarakhand is a storehouse for a rich variety of herbs, medicinal and aromatic plant species. This enables the state to offer immense opportunities for the development of export-oriented units based on such products.
