The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas will organize from 28th May - 31st May 2012, in Yasmine Hammamet, the 17th Congress of the Union of the Producers, Transporters and Distributors of Electric Power in Africa Under the theme: «Development of the African Energy potential and integration of networks for African countries Sustainable Development».

The STEG, current president of the scientific committee of The UPDEA will insure the presidency of this union at the conclusion of Works of this Congress.

With nearly 1.000 participants, this Congress aims at being a major event and intends to be a real and a major opportunity offered to all operators and actors in the electricity sector in Africa.

This event will gather, in addition to senior managers of African electricity companies, professionals and industrialists of the electric power sector, decision makers and donors.

On the sidelines of the congress, a space exhibition of hundred stands will be pre-installed and equipped to grant companies, industries and institutions the opportunity to exhibit their products and services, share their experiences and to enquire about the latest development in the sector.

This International event will be for STEG a real opportunity to value and enhance its expertise through its subsidiary INTERNATIONAL STEG SERVICES.

UPDEA

UPDEA is the Union of Producers, Transporters and Distributors of Electric Power in Africa. It is a non-profit continental organization founded in 1970. Its headquarters is in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

UPDEA is a permanent member of the Executive Council of AFREC (African Commission of Energy) and a partner of NEPAD, the African Union Commission and the ADB. It is the founder and statutory member of the Managing Committee of the African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission (AFSEC).

Its main mission is to promote the development and the integration of the African power sector to promote the establishment of an African market for electricity.

Its principal activities include, inter alia, research and provision among member companies of relevant information on best management practices and techniques and establishing a benchmark to improve their performance-collection, processing and dissemination of data on the African electricity sector- studies and strategic analysis for the electricity sector. The union has 54 active members in Africa and 16 affiliated companies / organizations worldwide. Its last congress was held in June 2008 in Nairobi (Kenya).

TUNISIA

With a population of 10.5 million inhabitants, a GDP of 3800 ($) USD per capita, a life expectancy of 74.5 years, an area of approximately 163,000 square kilometers, a coastline of more than 1300 km on the Mediterranean sea and a temperate climate, Tunisia is the perfect place for holidays.

STEG

The Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) was established in 1962 as an institution operating in the energy sector (electricity & gas). It is ranked among the best performing companies in the region.

Nearly 10,000 highly skilled agents among which 23 % of managers are serving more than 3.1 million electricity customers and 520,000 gas customers and contribute massively to the economic and social development.

With an electrification rate of 99.5%, 80 000 electricity connections each year, a 150 000km electricity network, an ambitious program of building gas infrastructure to supply 70,000 clients per year, STEG undertook a strategy of performance and quality comparable to that provided by the best electricity and gas companies from the north shore of the Mediterranean basin.

The 17th edition will coincide with the 40th anniversary of UPDEA and will take place in Yasmine Hammamet Tunisia, one of the largest resort in the Mediterranean basin.

The 17th Congress of UPDEA bring together hundreds of professionals in the electric energy sector and related industries throughout Africa. Among the participants, there will be decison makers, top managers, sponsors, operators of electric energy and renewable energy, equipment manufacturers and suppliers of electrical equipment, experts, consultants and research offices.

The conference takes place at the «Medina Convention & Expo Center» located in Yasmine Hammamet, 60km from the capital, Tunis.
