The season will open with a performance by pianist and child prodigy, Umi Garrett. Umi debuted on the world’s stage in May of 2009, wowing audiences on NBC’s “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” at the ripe age of eight. Now, as a seasoned ten-year-old pianist and prizewinner of several interna-tional competitions including the Chopin International Piano Competition, Umi will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major. The concert will also include Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony.

Soyoung Yoon violinsat | may 12 TBAEugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center

The season finale concert will feature, Soyoung Yoon, Silver Medalist of the 2010 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. After beginning violin lessons at age five and rising to stardom in South Korea, Ms. Yoon went on to become the youngest violinist to win the Cologne International Kulenkampff Music Competition. She will perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in G Minor. The program will also include a world premiere by Butler University fac-ulty member Frank Felice and Haydn’s Symphony No. 99 in E-flat Major.

The ICO and the IMA will collaborate once again to present a screening of The Mark of Zorro with live orchestral ac-companiment. This film was directed by Fred Niblo and stars Douglas Fairbanks as the masked hero of the people. In The Mark of Zorro, an oppressive colo-nial government rules over old Spanish California only to be opposed by the one and only Zorro. Zorro comes out of nowhere, with sword in hand, to defeat evildoers and make them bear his mark. All the while, trying to rescue and swoon damsel in distress, Lolita.

Leanna Booze will perform the Richard Strauss Oboe Concerto with the ICO. Leanna Booze is the Principal Oboe for the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and holds Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Dr. Booze was a finalist in the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Oboe Competition and serves as Adjunct Instructor of Oboe at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Also included in the concert are Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and Mozart’s Symphony No. 39 in E-flat.

Handel’s Messiah will be presented in the beautiful Tabernacle Presbyterian Church once again. Tabernacle and Fairview

Presbyterian Church sanctu-ary choirs and soloists Emily Albrink, soprano; Angela Young Smucker, mezzo-

soprano; Asitha Tennekoon, tenor; and Benjamin LeClair,

bass-baritone; join the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra to bring Handel’s Messiah, the complete oratorio, to life.

Experience the ICO cabaret-style with two Indiana favorites. Electric violinist/ vocalist Cathy Morris and singer/ songwriter Jennie DeVoe bring you a collaboration never before heard. While Ms. Morris has played the opening ceremonies for both Formula One and Indy 500 races to crowds of more than 250,000 people, Ms. DeVoe has opened for such artists as Sting, Bonnie Raitt, and John Hiatt. This powerhouse combination is the perfect jolt of electricity into any fall season.

The season continues with one of the ten most distinguished women in the Czech Republic. World renowned harpist, Jana Bouskova, will join the ICO to perform Ginastera’s Concerto for Harp and Saint- Saëns’ Morceau de Concert. The program will also include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor.
