AN INDIVIDUAL’S ATTITUDE TOWARD AIR QUALITY CAN REVEAL HIS CHARACTER

If he can identify outdoor air pollution from seeing the overcast sky and can see indoor air pollution from the dust on the table, then his power of observation is revealed.

If he can link air pollution to his own health, his power of understanding is revealed.

If he knows how many liters of air a person breaths each day, and how many pollutants each liter of air can contains, then his knowledge is revealed.

If he knows that air pollution poses many threats to his health, both short and long term, then the depth of his awareness is revealed.

If he pushes the government to improve air pollution management, then his civic spirit is revealed.

If he uses an air purifier in his home, office, and car, then his love for life is revealed.

THE COST OF AIR POLLUTION

The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Canadian Public Health Service have shown that 68% of human diseases are related to air pollution.

The World Health Organization certifies that indoor air pollution is five times worse than outdoor air pollution. Indoor air contains outdoor particles and smog as well as the harmful chemical emissions that decorations and furniture release.

The vast majority of air pollution particles are invisible to the eye, often smaller in size than human cells. These particles can pass directly through the alveolus in the lungs into the blood stream. (The smallest cell in the body is approximately 2.5 microns across, but bacteria and heavy metal particles are less than 1 micron across in size.)

Each day a person breathes 15 cubic meters of air, and each cubic meter weighs roughly 1.3 kilograms; therefore, each day a person consumes roughly 20 kilograms of air. People typically prefer to drink pure, bottled water, but frequently ignore the fact that they consume ten times more air than water by weight each day.

Airborne bacteria is the main reason for catching colds and the flu. Airborne particulate matter, particularly the heavy metals that come from power plants, factories and car exhaust, is also one of the main causes of lung, liver, kidney and lymphoma cancers.

Airborne formaldehyde and benzene, which come from the paint and adhesives in decorations and furniture, are some of the main causes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, colon cancer and brain tumors, as well as many birth defects.

Electrostatic Dust Cleaner Functions

PRODUCT FUNCTIONAll of the needed functions without anything unnecessary; this is the Broad Air Purifier. There is no other air purifier in the world that has four functions in one: Electrostatic Dust Cleaning, Electrostatic Bacteria Elimination, Active Carbon Detoxification and Carbon Dioxide Sensing, a Broad patented combination of functions.

Electrostatic Dust Cleaning: Tungsten filaments release high voltage static electricity to positively charge all dust particles and bacteria entering the machine. The particles are then absorbed on the negatively charged aluminum plates. Then the filter can absorb particles of dust and smog that are smaller in size than a human cell. Offering comprehensive protection for the respiratory system, the air purifier reduces the risk of cancer.

Electrostatic Bacteria Killing: All bacteria, viruses and pollen adsorbed on the electrostatic cleaner are instantly killed by a 6,000V static electric charge. Because of this function, the Broad Air Purifier is very effective at eliminating colds and many types of airborne diseases.

Active Carbon Detoxification: The Active Carbon Filter absorbs formaldehyde, benzene, nicotine and many other types of toxic chemicals gasses.

Carbon Dioxide Sensor: The CO2 Sensor monitors the concentration of CO2 indoors and automatically alerts users of high concentrations of CO2 and the need to increase ventilation.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCEOperation: Operation is very easy; Broad Air Purifiers are plug and play machines. Power consumption is exceptionally low (see the following pages), allowing you to keep the air purifier running all year long.

Maintenance: In order to efficiently maintain the best level of purification, as soon as the electrostatic dust cleaner is fully covered by dust, it needs to removed and cleaned (probably once per month). The cleaning process is very easy and takes just a few minutes: Use detergent to wash the Filter and Electrostatic Dust Cleaner by hand and then rinse and let both parts dry before replacing them. You can also use the Broad Ultrasonic Washing Machine to clean the Filter and Electrostatic Dust Cleaner.

The Active Carbon Filter is the only disposable material in the Broad Air Purifier. Replace the Active Carbon Filter once or twice per month. Broad gives you four free pieces with your purchase, and will supply additional Active Carbon Filters for a low price.

After cleaning the Broad Air Purifier, you will see water as black as ink. Just think that without your Broad Air Purifier, these particles might be inside of your lungs.

PORTABLE SERIES

Note: Models in this series do not contain CO2 Sensors

Holding an air purifier while walking down the street, you may catch a few strange looks from bystanders, but there is no other way to protect yourself from airborne pollution while outdoors. Wearing a mask on a smoggy street only provides psychological comfort because the mask is not a fine enough filter to block inhalable suspended particles, dust and bacteria less than 10 microns in size (1/100th of a mm), the true sources of damage to our health.

During the flu season the importance of the Broad Air Purifier becomes obvious. Airborne bacteria on planes, busses and in other public spaces will be killed immediately when passing through the electrostatic section of the Broad Air Purifier.

A small Broad Air Purifier in your car can purify the dirty air in the streets and on the roads. Hotels are places where infections can easily spread, and putting an air purifier into your baggage will transform your life on the road.

OUR PLANET FACES AN AIR POLLUTION CRISIS. USING AN AIR PURIFIER IS THE LAST RESORT TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM AIR POLLUTION. BUT ONLY WHEN ALL CITIZENS ARE CONSCIOUS OF THIS CRISIS, CAN TAKE WE THE STEPS NEEDED TO ELIMINATE AIR POLLUTION.

AIR POLLUTION FATALITIES NOW EXCEED TRAFFIC FATALITIES BY 3 TO 1 Earth-Policy

The World Health Organization reports that 3 million people now die each year from the effects of air pollution. This is three times the 1 million who die each year in automobile accidents. A study published in The Lancet in 2000 concluded that air pollution in France, Austria, and Switzerland is responsible for more than 40,000 deaths annually in those three countries. About half of these deaths can be traced to air pollution from vehicle emissions.

In the United States, traffic fatalities total just over 40,000 per year, while air pollution claims 70,000 lives annually. U.S. air pollution deaths are equal to deaths from breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. This scourge of cities in industrial and developing countries alike threatens the health of billions of people.

AIR POLLUTION CAUSES EARLY DEATHS BBC

Air pollution is responsible for 310,000 premature deaths in Europe each year, research suggests. A study by the European Commission calculated that air pollution reduces life expectancy by an average of almost nine months across the European Union. Poor quality air is thought to result in more than 32,000 premature deaths in the UK each year alone.

Experts say many of these deaths could be avoided if measures were put in place to cut pollution levels. The figures show every European takes on average half a day off sick a year due to illnesses linked to air pollution - costing the economy more than 80bn euros.

The main threat to health is posed by tiny particles known as particulate matter, which can penetrate deep into the respiratory tissue, and even directly into the bloodstream.

Professor Andrew Peacock, of the British Thoracic Society, said: "We have known for some time that high levels of air pollution have a direct link to respiratory illnesses.

AIR POLLUTION KILLS, BUT DEATHS CAN BE PREVENTED Environmental News Network

Eight thousand people a day die from air pollution but some simple preventative steps and increased monitoring could lessen the toll, according to a recently released report by Australia's Commonwealth Science Council.

Of the 3 million annual deaths, 2.8 million are from indoor air pollution. Ninety percent of the deaths occur in developing countries, according to World Health Organization estimates. Over 500,000 people a year die in China alone due to air pollution, said Peter Manins, a scientist at Australia's federal science agency, CSIRO.

IT'S NO DIRTY SECRET-PITTSBURGH AIR

RANKED AMONG NATION'S WORSTTribune-Review

Perhaps the clearest thing about the air in the

Pittsburgh area is that it's bad. So says another report,

this one from the Surface Transportation Policy Project,

a national nonprofit organization that ranks the

Pittsburgh metro area as the sixth-worst in the nation,

behind a quintuplet of California metro areas, based

on the number of unhealthy air pollution days.

"Air pollution continues to be a serious health problem in

America, and one for which our transportation system

bears a large responsibility for," the report said. "Recent

studies have shown strong evidence linking air pollution

with public health problems like asthma, cancer and

heart disease." About 10.7 percent of Pittsburgh-area

adults have asthma, the report said.

About 45 percent of the area's air pollution comes from

cars and heavy vehicles, generating 638,895 tons of

pollutants each year, according to the report. It calls on

Congress to strengthen clean air legislation and provide

funding for federally required mitigation programs.

AIR POLLUTION LINKED TO HEART DEATHS WebMD Health News

Air pollution is a much bigger factor in death from heart

disease or stroke than has previously been recognized,

according to findings from one of the largest studies ever to

examine the issue.

Researchers followed close to 66,000 women -- aged 50-

79 -- living in 36 cities. All the women were enrolled in the

ongoing health study, the Women’s Health Initiative.

After adjusting for other risk factors for heart disease and

stroke, they found that air quality was a strong predictor

of heart disease and stroke risks -- and an even stronger

predictor of death from heart disease or stroke.

Fine particulate air pollution -- caused primarily by

vehicle exhausts, coal-fired power plants, and other

industrial sources -- was the sole type of air pollution

associated with increased risk. When all other risk

factors were equal, the researchers found that women

living in the most polluted cities had the highest heart

disease and stroke risks, while women living in the

cleanest cities had the lowest.

AIR POLLUTION IN LONDON "DRIVING

PEOPLE TO EARLY DEATH" London.gov.uk

Dr Frank Kelly of Kings College London told the Assembly

Environment Committee that our poor air quality is driving

people to early death and is affecting everyone, but particularly

the capital’s children and the elderly.

During today’s session on air quality in London, the Committee

heard that air pollution is believed to be responsible for around

1,000 premature deaths each year, but experts believe the

actual figures could be significantly higher. Poor air quality is also

causing a reduction in some children’s lung growth of up to 17

percent by the time they hit their teens. This lung capacity can

never be regained.

IRAN SMOG 'KILLS 3,600 IN MONTH' BBC

Air pollution is estimated to have killed nearly 10,000 people

in Tehran over a one-year period, including 3,600 in a month,

Iranian officials say. Most of the deaths were caused by heart

attacks and respiratory illnesses brought on by smog, they said.

The scale of the problem led one senior official to say living in the

Iranian capital was like "collective suicide".

Cheap fuel encourages car use in Iran, correspondents say, and

many vehicles do not meet global emissions standards.

"It is a very serious and lethal crisis, a collective suicide," the director

of Tehran's clean air committee, Mohammad Hadi Heydarzadeh,

told an Iranian newspaper. "A real revolution is needed to resolve

this problem." He said air quality had worsened and was linked to

some 3,600 deaths in October. Many of the deaths were caused by

heart attacks brought on by the air pollution.

New figures showed a sharp rise in pollution-related deaths in

Iran, where 9,900 people died of pollution in the previous Iranian

year (March 2005 to March 2006).
