The Education and Employers Taskforce was launched as anindependent charity in October 2009. Its vision is that every schooland college has an effective partnership with employers that providesyoung people with the inspiration, motivation, knowledge, skills andopportunities they need to help them achieve their potential and sosecure our national prosperity.

The Taskforce makes it considerably easier for partners, from theprivate, public and third sectors, to work together efficiently andstrategically.

The Taskforce has compiled comprehensive research, which examinesthe mutual benefits of partnerships between education andemployers. These partnerships comprise a variety of activities whichhave maximum mutual benefits for schools/colleges and employersand form the basis of our National Framework in which theseactivities are grouped under three themes:•Supporting the curriculum including literacy and numeracy,Diplomas, STEM, Language teaching and the development of learningmaterials•Enterprise education and employability skills including workexperience, mentoring, workplace visits, classroom talks to youngpeople, enterprise activities, careers advice and Apprenticeships•Leadership and governance including governors, expert help andprofessional development for teaching staff

Making it easyThe Taskforce and its partners have developed two one-stop-shoponline guides which explain in detail the benefits of employerengagement with education and how to get involved.

Trustees and Partnership Board Joint Statement

We know that

when employers and schools and colleges work well together, everybody can benefit – especially the learners.

young people enjoy learning when it involves employers, value theemployers’ expertise and are motivated by the challenge of workingon real‐life projects.

employer involvement in activities such as mentoring and workexperience can increase academic attainment.

bringing employers into the classroom gives young people a broaderand deeper understanding of the many careers open to them, andhelps them to understand how to achieve their job of choice.

employers who support work‐related learning know that they arehelping to equip young people with the knowledge and attitudesthat they themselves most value.

schools and colleges overwhelmingly want more involvement fromemployers, across the curriculum and across all age groups.

teachers can gain much from staff development opportunities, suchas mentoring, offered by employers.

there is a connection between school performance and the strengthof the governing body, and that many of the skills essential toeffective governance are found in abundance in neighbouringworkplaces.

working directly with schools and colleges can make employeerecruitment cheaper and easier.

working with schools and colleges can improve employeemotivation; provide excellent opportunities for staff development;and enhance an employer’s reputation across the community.

it has never been easier for employers and schools and colleges towork together, and there is a real appetite on both sides.

the changing economy means that it has never been moreimportant.
