Due to difficult geotechnical condi- tions and minor weather delays, Stage One of a three stage project to replace six bridg- es on the Gradys Creek and Lions Roads is expected to be completed mid April 2017 in- stead of the end of March as originally advised. Council expects to finish work on the six bridge project in Au- gust 2017. Council received $2 million through the Australian Govern- ment’s Bridge Re- newal Program to re- place the timber bridg- es, five of which have load limits of between 2 and 25 tonnes im- posed on them. The load limits have impacted the timber, beef, and tourism in- dustries and in- creased response times for emergency and essential ser- vices undertaking ur- gent call outs, mainte- nance and repairs. Changed traffic con- ditions, detours and longer travel times around some of the sites are necessary during construction of the new bridges. Currently, Gradys Creek Road is closed at Murrays Bridge, 10.5km from Summer- land Way. The best route for travel be- tween New South Wales and Queens- land is via Summer- land Way Mount Lindesay Highway. During the closure, access to all proper- ties from rural road number 1085 and above, and to all prop- erties on Glen Arvin Road, Brindle Creek Road, Main Creek Road, Tree Fern Road and Lions Road is via Lynches Creek using Simes Road Forest Road Lynches Creek Road. Simes Road, Forest Road and Lynches Creek Road were graded and re- sheeted before the road closure in prepa- ration for the detour. At the request of resi- dents, additional slashing has been undertaken on Lynch- es Creek Road and speed limits reduced on Simes, Forest and Lynches Creek Roads. The existing Boyles (2) Bridge (the first bridge north of the Brindle Creek Road and Gradys Creek Road intersection) is remaining open to through traffic while the new bridge is being built. Construc-tion is further advanced on Boyles (2) Bridge than on Murrays Bridge. Piles have been drilled and poured, headstocks formed, and abutments are currently being installed.

Murrays Bridge is currently closed to all traffic . Construction of the new bridge is underway with piles drilled and poured. During the closure, residents living north of the bridge on Gradys Creek Rd from rural road number 1085 and above, all of Glen Arvin Rd, Brindle Creek Rd, Main Creek Rd, Tree Fern Rd and Lions Rd are detouring via Simes/Forest/Lynches Creek Roads.

The existing Boyles (1) Bridge will remain in place and used as a bypass for through traffic while the new bridge is being built.

Boyles (1) Bridge - 5.15 km on Gradys Creek Road

Heards Bridge will be closed to all traffic during stage two. During the closure, residents living north of this bridge will have to detour around Simes Road, Forest Road and Lynches Creek Road to the Summerland Way. This will affect properties on Gradys Creek Road from rural road number 601 and above, all of Cedargetters Road, Fernhill Drive, Glen Arvin Road, Brindle Creek Road, Main Creek Road, Tree Fern Road and Lions Road.

Heards Bridge (20t) - 5.5 km on Gradys Creek Road

Davis Bridge (this is the first bridge north of Fernhill Drive) will be closed to all traffic during stage three of the project. During the closure, residents living north of this bridge will have to detour around Simes Road, Forest Road and Lynches Creek Road to the Summerland Way. This will affect properties on Gradys Creek Road from rural road number 671 and above, all of Cedargetters Road, Glen Arvin Road, Brindle Creek Road, Main Creek Road,

Lions Road Bridge will be closed to all traffic during stage three. During the closure, residents living north of this bridge, including Main Creek Road residents, will have to detour around Gradys Creek Road (the low road) and Simes Road, Forest Road, Lynch-es Creek Road to the Summerland Way.

Boyles 1 is a single lane timber bridge that is 38.3m long. The new bridge will be a dual lane 40m concrete composite structure.

Heards Bridge currently has a 20 tonne load limit and is a single lane timber bridge that is 24.3m long. The new bridge will be dual lane 28m long concrete composite structure.

Davis Bridge currently has a 10 tonne load limit and is a single lane timber bridge that is 29.4m long. The new bridge will be a dual lane 33.6m long concrete composite structure.

Murrays Bridge currently has a 20 tonne load limit and is a single lane timber bridge that is 28.6m long. The new bridge will be a dual lane 33.6m long concrete composite structure.

Boyles 2 currently has a 20 tonne load limit and is a single lane timber bridge that is 45.1m long. The new bridge will be a dual lane 44.8m long concrete composite structure.

Lions Road bridge

The five new bridges to be built on Gradys Creek Road will be all dual lane concrete composite structures. This means they will be all built with concrete foundations, piers and abutments, polymer rein-forced fibreglass girders and a concrete deck which is poured on site.

Gradys Creek Road bridges

The new bridge on the Lions Road will be an Australian Defence Force (ADF) steel truss bridge. It will be a dual lane bridge. The existing timber bridge has a two tonne load limit and is 23.3m long. The new bridge will be dual lane and 25m long.
