The school from Badia
Polesine/Italy designed a
lay-out / ground plan of Eu-
ropia that was ultimately
used by all the partners to
place their buildings. There
were also short explana-
tions about the functions of
the buildings and the way
they were built. The final
common work was done in
mixed teams in workshops
at the final meeting in Sala-
manca/Spain and finished
by the Italian school.

After having finished the first
and second part of the pro-
ject (housing of the past and
housing of the present) the
students had to work on the
last part: Europia, a common
neighbourhood of the future.
This is also the main subject
of our third brochure made by
the school in Galati/Romania.
The first task for the students
was to interview people from
their area and find out what
they thought about the way
they would like to live in the
future and what was im-
portant for them to lead a
comfortable and environment-
friendly life. Having gathered
all the data with the help of a
questionnaire the students
had to develop and design
buildings (by either drawing
them or making models) that
would be suitable for a neigh-
bourhood that should meet
the demands of as many peo-
ple as possible. This was done
in small teams where stu-
dents could discuss their

The project „Bricks“ ends with the presentation of „Europia“ , a future neighbourhood that was developed by the students according to surveys they had
made. Each school presents its “Europia” which consists of a map that outlines the neigbourhood and buildings which are important for the people who
live there. The idea was to design a neigbourhood for all walks of the population to lead a comfortable life which is harmony with nature.

GERMANY’S EUROPIA
This is a multifunctional building where you can do many
different kinds of sports. It includes a swimming-pool and a
place for other free-time activities. The building is surround-
ed by an outdoor court which looks like a ring. There is
enough space for many spectators. The open roof can be
closed in winter or bad weather. The sports centre is made
of material that can be recycled easily if it must give way to
other buildings.
1.Community Centre
2.House of Praying In this building people of different
religious denominations (mainly
Christians, Muslims, Jews > com-
pare symbols) can pray individual-
ly there. They also can come to-
gether and have common meet-
ings where they can exchange and
discuss their views on ethical and
religious issues. The building pos-
sesses a bell tower and a minaret,
but also maintains a traditional
shape with its colourful windows.
3.Sports Centre
It is a place that offers different
requirements: It is a multifunc-
tional building including a town
hall with its administration, a
place for medical care and well-
ness, a hall which can be used
as a meeting place and a cinema
for entertainment purposes. The
wall and the roof are covered
with green plants which is good
for insulation and also for the
climate. The different shapes of
the architecture of the building stand for its different use.
4.Kindergarten This is a multifunctional building where you can do many
different kinds of sports. It includes a swimming-pool and a
place for other free-time activities. The building is surround-
ed by an outdoor court which looks like a ring. There is
enough space for many spectators. The open roof can be
closed in winter or bad weather. The sports centre is made of material that can be recycled
easily if it must give way to other buildings.
5.School and youth centre
It‟s a building with an outstanding shape which makes it easier for the students to identify
with their school. One entrance resembles the entrance of a castle. It separates the inside
from the outside world. The other entrance is a tube with a suspension bridge inside. It de-
mands physical skills to get into the school. There is also an entrance for persons with spe-
cial needs. The big windows let in natural light and make the building brighten up when the
sun shines. In the basement of the building there are places where the students can retreat
and relax. Outside the school there are open spaces where the students can do sports or lie
in the grass and enjoy the sunshine.
Page 5
No. 3 Europia
Close to the school there is a youth centre. It‟s a place where young people can meet after
school. It looks like a tower showing different floors where there are different facilities for the
students available. There is a media library where the students can watch films or play
games. In another floor there are rooms for music groups to rehearse or play gigs. In another
floor the students just sit in comfortable chairs listen to music or talk to each other. There is
also a small bar where they can order non-alcoholic drinks. The students also have the possi-
bility to enjoy themselves in an open-air swimming-pool which they can reach through a tun-
nel. It‟s up in the air and offers a nice view of the surrounding area. A small park which can also be reached through a tun-
nel is situated up in the air and gives the students a place to relax. Both places are built there to save ground that will be
very precious in the future.
6.Shopping Centre
This building also has an
eye-catching shape to
attract people to the
shopping centre. It has
three main levels in the
base with different big
department stores and
shops. In the glass tower
there are restaurants
and specialized shops
like music – and book
shops. There is also a lounge area where peo-
ple can relax while doing their shopping. A big
car park is under the building so that it is con-
venient for the customers to get to the shops.
The roof can turn and so wind energy is pro-
duced by its movement.
7.Restaurants
In the neighbourhood you will find different restaurants in various
shapes. One looks like a coffee cup with the plate serving as a
place where customers can sit outside at tables. The other restau-
rant looks like a “flying saucer” with a transparent roof where people
can sit in deck chairs enjoying a cup of coffee. The third one looks
more exotic with a palm tree in the middle. The restaurant itself
looks like shells which give shelter to the customers.
8.Living
Three types of buildings which show the different ideas of living together. All
of them are closely connected to nature. One house has a roof covered with
grass to improve insulation. There is also a little lake on top and water run-
ning in cascades down the building. You can only see the windowless side of
the building which is meant to save energy. The other building complex con-
sists of three houses with a multi-storey farm attached to one of it. Here you
can see that the people living there can produce their own food. They even keep cattle in their garden. The third building is
a round one with towers in the middle where people can relax surrounded by plants and where they can also grow food.
9.Train Station
The building looks colourful and inviting. The big windows
stand for transparency and show what is going on in the com-
munity. It helps to make people think of the police not only as
an institution to be respected but also as one which helps peo-
ple when they need to be protected. The garage in the middle
of the building can move its levels to store police cars more
efficiently. A new material is used for the building which is
more sustainable: It can change CO2 into oxygen.
10.Police Station
11.Park The energy centre supplies the whole neigh-
bourhood with energy. There is a thermal
power station which produces warm water
using solar energy and a power station us-
ing wind power to produce electricity. At
peak times energy is added from a water
power station nearby.

Brickstones made in Europe — The way housing influences our lives in a common Europe
We would like to present our city of the future – Europia:
Our Europia is a very green city with a lot of trees, playgrounds, parks and meadows.
It is also a very friendly city for animals.
The public houses and offices are very functional and the private homes are integrated in nature as much as possible.
Page 7

Energy is produced
by solar panels and
wind mills in every
single building.
A lot of companies
and offices are
involved in the
edcuational system.
So students can
spend one day a
week in a company
or an office to learn
about different jobs.
There are no long
d is tances fo r
everyone to get to
work, to school or
to do the shopping.
So there is no
need to have a car,
people can walk or
go by bike.
Everything people
need for their daily
lives like doctors,
shop, playgrounds,
schools, offices,
restaurants and so
on are not far away
from the place
where they live.

Because of almost every city in Europe is crossed by a river
or is near the seaside the suggestion is for a building (always
environmentally friendly –too much green & solar panels)
that everyone could access it in an easy way.
This is a proposal of a school for elder students in a city.
It is an environmentally friendly building, modern, with
plenty of natural light because of its‟ external walls and
its roof. There is also plenty of space for students to relax.

All diseases upon ancient Greek doctors
are psychosomatic. This building could help
patients to recover in an easier and faster
way by coming by elevators on the roof that
has been transformed in a park. In this way
they are encouraged to try more, to be opti-
mist, to enjoy even for some minutes the
outside life, having a nice view.
Hospital
Library
A modern building environmentally friendly,
modern, well designed, with too much natu-
ral light where you can access by public
transportation and have a pleasant time for
working.
Restaurant
This is a kind of restaurants of Greek neigh-
borhood near the seaside that can works
during all year by giving the chance to every-
body having a pleasant time in a very friend-
ly to nature building with special facilities
to all (e. g parents with kids). The architect
focused on outside life.
Youth Club
It is a complexed building for young people
in a very green place with energy autonomy
by solar panels not in the very center of
town not to be very noisy especially on sum-
mer time.
Club for elderly people
It is a building that offers to elderly people an easy
way to go there and because of it is rounded every
one of them can have (by sitting everywhere) the
sense that he is outside in nature.

built only with environmentally
sustainable materials and will
contain many “green” features such
as a photovoltaic system and the use
of geothermic energy in other to heat
up the entire structure and to reduce
the general waste.
Talking about the park, it’s an explosion of green , trees and different plants. It
is 300 (3 hundred) hectare wide and it is a shelter from glass and iron. There
are private areas only for children, a great flowerbed, different kinds of flowers…
A red flower fountain gives freshness to the place.

Shopping Center+Swimming Pool
Temple of Religions
Museum
We realized an innovative Shopping Center, called The Golden Moon, which is
composed by five buildings. The First and the last are joined by 50 metres
high bridge. The Golden Moon has got more than 5000(five thousand) shops
and stores, including restaurants, film theatres, a great aquarium, concert
theatres, bowling and skating rinks, coffee bars with karaoke, a SPA, gyms
with swimming pools, mini golf course. As I said, the shopping center is
composed by 5 buildings. Each one is divided into 3 areas which remember 3
differents Nations of the World.
There is an arch in front of the shopping centre. This arch gives the name to
the 5 buildings, because it has got the shape of the shape of an half-moon.
The arch is composed by photovoltaic panels which produce energy for the
whole shopping centre. Under the arch is an artificial lake which produces
hydroelectric power.
Looking at our innovative city from an urban cultural point of view, our school can
be used all year round. Regarding the innovation, our school is rich in advanced
technology. It offers free wifi and gives the opportunity to enrich the lessons with
the contents of innovative applications. The classrooms are bright but they are
easy to darken thanks to the automatic rolling shutters. It is the student who
moves from one classroom to another and who decides what course to attend. It is
a type of school suitable for people who both study and work.
In our school there are many place, even in open air, where students can talk and
work together. There working areas are equipped with solar panels. There is room
for scholastic vegetable gardens and greenhouses where students can farm and
be taught by the local farmers.
There is a place in open air surrounded by grass and trees where to attend
several lessons- such as biology- simply sitting in a circle on a bench.
In the laboratories students can experiment and conducts research studies. We are talking about a stimulating
environment with music where artists can create, study, pour out their creativity, invent new techniques or test their ideas.
They are able to divulge their discoveries in a quick way thanks to the advanced tools. In our school there is also an
astronomical observatory in other to get and study the space signals.
For this study, we have been inspired by different buildings, such as: University of Mexico, the European Organization for
Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva and the Italian National Research Centre (Centro di Ricerca Nazionale Italiano-CNR).
School & University
Our idea for the museum is the creation of something innovative and
interesting for interesting for young people and adults. The amazing
Zaha Hadid’s Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku(Azerbaijan), one of the most
beautiful buildings all over the world, inspired us.
Every week, this new museum will exhibit different artworks of various
artists and each canvas will be presented in 4D. So we will be able to
see painting in a different way, people will feel the artist’s mind and
emotion right into.
Furthermore, the building has also a laboratory zone for everyone who
will be interested in deepening their artistic knowledge. A cultural
opportunity for everyone!
The Universal Center of Religions is a complex structure inspired by many
ancient buildings such as Stonehenge, the Ziggurat temples and the Gothic
Cathedrals. In addition, it contains philosophic symbols like the Möbius strip,
the Macedonian Star and moreover.
This building will be the center of every culture and people will be able to
come here pray or simply to talk with others. Our idea is to create a free
peaceful place for everyone, a place where people can be themselves , share
their experiences and thoughts and solve the many social problems that may
occur. We believe that people together can really make change.

Residential neighbourhood located between two recreational lakes in North and South with a lot of vegetation and a
network of roads (roads and alleys access to housing lots). Shaped snowflake, allowing easy pedestrians go to the central
area where there are the school gymnasium, kindergarten, hospital, etc.
The gardens of the neighbourhood are diversified and well cared for: the forests on the shores of lakes, trees and flow-
ers in the yards of private playgrounds for children (with benches, swings, slides, etc.) promenades with trees and flowers,
benches and cobblestone alleys. To all these there are pools of local administration that can turn natural ice-skating rinks
in winter, not to mention private pools.
The access to the entire neighborhood can be done on bicycle, there is a vast network for those on the high street,
crowded roads but smaller quicker in reaching that allow access to central area, school, sports hall etc.
It is independent in terms of energy and heat. There are solar panels on
the roof, bathrooms with rainwater and water depth basins.
In front of the roof there is each a helical wind turbine. In relatively strong
windy days these turbines will rotate their vibration not disturbing the building
structure being loaded with reserve batteries that can be used for school
needs, but also for the kindergarten or hospital.
All buildings are equipped with modern seismic dampers which lessens
the effects of earthquakes (we live in an area with many earthquakes, but they
defend the structure of the wind turbines, providing a satisfactory living envi-
ronment).

Situated on the east/west area, the building re-
ceives light on the wall arounded façade covered
with transparent photovoltaic cells (they don‟t
exist yet, but they will be invented soon) wich
allows the entrance of the natural light through
the windows wich it cover. In winter, it can move
away, receiving water and electricity from the
great neighbour producer(school).
Shooping Center
Big producer of the wind power, has many tur-

Living House
Indiferently of the model of the building, with one or two levels and
blocks, every house is termic isolated, has collector and boilers for
the manager water, seismical amortiser for the vibration amortizing
made by the wind, kaplon turbin situated on the loft and cabine for

4.CHURCH -This is a church that is opened to all
religions. It has three levels and the two first are
used by priests, imams and rabbis so they can
prepare for the worship and prayer. It only runs
on solar energy from the solar panels on the roof.
It‟s mainly built of metal that‟s easy to produce,
recycle and there is a lot of it in Sweden.

2.POLICE –This is a police station. The police
station has very big windows so a lot of daylight
can come in. This way you don‟t need a lot of
lamps. On the roof of the police station there is a
place for helicopter that runs on biofuel.
Viktor
5.HOTEL –This building is a hotel. As you can see
it‟s a high building with many floors. It‟s covered
with glass in order to heat the building and also
keep the heat inside. It‟s built of recycled materi-
als.
Nashat
3.FIRE STATION –The fire station should be close
to where people live. One reason for this is that if
a fire starts, it‟s close for the fire brigade to get
there. Another reason is that those who live in the
area should be able to help so you do not need
many employees at the fire station.

6.CAFÉ, RESTAURANT –The café and the restau-
rant are mainly for vegetarians. The house has
solar panels and thick windows. This is eco
thinking!

9.APARTMENT HOUSE –This building is an apart-
ment house. It has three floors plus an attic.
There are twelve flats all in all in the house. Each
apartment has a balcony. Everyone has to pay
for warm water but it is not that expensive since
the house has solar panels on the roof. The
house also uses the solar panels for electricity.
The apartment house is built of environmental
friendly and recycled materials.
Sama
9.APARTMENT HOUSE –Theapartment house is
divided into two parts; one part for retired tenants
and one part for families. The idea is that the
retired people could help looking after the kids, or
all tenants could help each other with different
things. The apartment house has both small and
big flats. One part of the house is top modern and
the other part is vintage.

11.GROCERY SHOP
10.HOUSE –This is a typical Swedish house and
it is made of wood, since there is a lot of forest
in Sweden. This house is pretty cheap so it‟s
affordable to everyone. The type of house does
not use much electricity. For ex the heating
comes from an opened fireplace.
William K
11.GROCERY SHOP –This is a small fruit and
vegetable store. This store gets all the fruits and
vegetables from the greenhouses just outside
the town. The small white things that look like
windows on the roof are solar panels, wich bring
light and heating to the store.
Alfred
12.HOSPITAL, PHARMACY –This hospital is built
of stone and the idea is that you get help here
when you need it. The hospital runs mostly on
solar panels and they are placed on the roof. The
hospital has ambulances that run on biofuel.

13.BATH –The bath house is driven only by solar
energy from solar panels. The bath house is locat-
ed in the center of the area so it is not difficult to
get there. The roof of the bath house can easy be
removed that it becomes an outdoor swimming
pool during summer.
Hampus
14.SCHOOL –This is a school. It is built with a lot
of solar panels and much glass around the
whole building. The school grows vegetables on
the roof.
Ludvig
15.BOWLING –This is a bowling alley built in the
shape of a bowling pin. It‟s also an environmental-
ly friendly building that has windows made by
solar cells. This building is also meant to be a
good meeting place for young and old.

Survey: Environmental behavior 2
Page 18
Brickstones made in Europe — The way housing influences our lives in a common Europe
This report summarizes the results of the 2016 Survey on environmental behaviour. This
survey and the one in 2015 were a part of our Erasmus + project “Brickstones” at ARRS in
Rastatt.
The survey calculated as 100% the total number of responses received for questions where pupils were
asked to choose one item.
Each question was calculated based on the number of responses to that question.
With our project we hope that we can contribute to the resolution of environmental problems using this sur-
vey to raising environmental interest among as many pupils as possible, not limited to environmental ex-
perts.
The survey shows that 49,8% of our pupils think that the environmental education has got its positive im-
pact on school life.
46,8 % of our pupils are aware that our excessive energy consumption has got to do with negative conse-
quences on the environment.
Once again, we extend our deepest gratitude to all our pupils for taking the time to share their valuable opin-
ions and experience through the survey.
Summary of the survey about the environment
School: Primo Levi - Italy
In the comparison between survey n.1 and survey n.2 ,we can point out the following considerations:
The students are more concerned about environmental problems, and pay more attention to the saving of
energy. They are more aware of how important it is to recycle people‟s trash in order to improve the quality
of life in the whole planet. Finally they had several opportunities to increase their ecological responsibility at
school. For example they organized “green school activities” such as saving paper / energy and picking up
litter . Then they promoted green/fair commerce during open day school and youth meetings.
Summary of the results
Page 19
No. 3 Europia
Summary of the environmental survey, at Skiftingehus, Sweden
The first survey was made by 73 students and the second by 82. The responses are
similar in the two surveys. Already from the start of the project a majority of the stu-
dents were aware of environmental issues and showed good behaviour.
A few issues are worth noting:
Students are now more aware of how they use and can save water.
Less go by car now, only 7 %, the rest use bus, walk or bike to school.
Students are more aware of the usage of electricity.
Students are more aware of global environmental problems.
A final conclusion from the results is that students' knowledge and awareness of environmental issues have
improved and affects their behaviour in school, at home and in the society.
Summary of the environmental behaviour survey,
School no.1, Independența, Romania
In the comparison between survey no.1 (2014), made by 74 students, and survey no. 2
(2016), made by 96 students, we noticed the following:
- 86% think that the Environmental Education has a positive impact on the school life, we still have a lot to
do concerning the environmental education.
However,
69% prefer going to school or other places by car instead of walking even if the 54% of them use public
transport instead of private cars although it is more uncomfortable because of the environmental benefit
53% don‟t recycle old paper and newspapers, glass bottles, plastic , aluminium cans, etc and put them in
the suitable recycle container, even if only 46% answered in the same way at the survey no.
50% became aware of how important recycling is, also 56% considere that the lack of ecological awareness
is still the reason to worry about the ecological impact in our school.
A conclusion from the results is that students' knowledge and awareness of environmental issues have im-
proved, but they need more practice in this area.
Brickstones made in Europe– The way housing influences our lives in a common Europe
The aim of our project is to show how the environment and social aspects
have influenced the way houses have been built in different European
Countries.
In the first part of the project 2 typical houses of the past ( a rural house and
a town house) will be analyzed and models will be built for our moving
exhibition.
The second part deals with everyday housing with special reference to
energy saving aspects. Extern experts will be involved and excursions to
building sites will be included. There will be an energy week at each school.
In the last part we will develop together our EUROPIA – a place where all
our European partners would feel at home and all their demands will be
met. There will be an architectural competition among the partners.
