TheAIRQUAL-1istobeusedtotestcompressedairfor;oilmist,watervapour,carbonmonoxide(CO),carbondioxide(CO2),oxygen(O2),temperature,flowandpressureinaccordancetoyourlocalgoverningbody(seesection2).
Anyattempttorepairorsubstitutecomponentscancauseerrorandpossibledamageofcomponents.OnlyreplaceconsumablepartswithgenuinecomponentsspecifiedforuseasdirectreplacementfortheAIRQUAL-1. See section 11.
Thequalityoftheairsuppliedtoabreathingapparatusshouldbetestedatleasteverythreemonths and more frequently when the quality of the air supplied cannot be assured.
TheregulatorsandflowrestrictorsarefactorysettodelivertherequiredflowratesspecifiedbyGASTECat1bar.Flowratescanbeadjustedsee.Section5forfurtherdetails.

1. First ensure that there is no obstruction in the tube receptor. If there is debris present fully unscrewtheglandtoexposeandremovesealtogainaccess.
2. Removethedetectortubefromthepackaging.Bothendsofthetubemustbebrokenpriortouse.Tobreakthetipends,insertthetubeintothetipbreakerandrotateit360o asshowninfigure3.2(a).Pushthetubedownwardstobreakthetipoffasshowninfigure3.2(b).
3. InsertthedetectiontubeintherelevanttubereceptorintheAIRQUAL-1.Refertothelegendonthetopleftofthebackplate(11.Fig.2,page7).
NB: The arrow marked on the side of the tube indicates the direction of flow of the sample gas.

1. OIL MIST TEST: Thereadingisobtaineddirectlyoffthetubeinmg/m3.Thereadingshouldbetakenontheboundaryofthebrown/darkgreenstaining,ignoringthepalegreendiscolouration. NOTE:Highwatervapourlevelscanaffectaccuracyofreading(seenoteoverleaf).
2. CARBONDIOXIDETEST: Thereadingisobtaineddirectlyoffthetubeinpartspermillion.Thereadingshouldbetakenontheboundaryofthepaleorangestaining. NOTE:Highwatervapourlevelscanaffectaccuracyofreading(seenoteoverleaf).
3. CARBONMONOXIDETEST: Thereadingisobtaineddirectlyoffthetubeinpartspermillion.Thereadingshouldbetakenontheboundaryofthedarkbrownstaining. NOTE:Highwatervapourlevelscanaffecttheaccuracyofthereading(seenoteoverleaf).
4. WATER VAPOUR TEST: Ifthestainlengthreachesthemaximumcalibrationmark(80mg/m3)duringsampling,recordthetimetakentoreachsaturationandthenremovethetube.Thereadingshouldbetakenontheboundaryofthepurplestaining. Use the formula below to calculate the actual concentration. ActualConcentration(mg/m3)=MaxTubeReadingx(TestDuration/TimeTakenToReachSaturation)

HINTS FOR DETECTOR TUBE READING
(a)Whentheendofthecolourchangelayerisflat,readthevalueattheendofthelayer.Inthisexample,thereadingshouldbe5%.
(b)Whentheendofthecolourchangelayerisslanted,readthevalueinthemiddleoftheslant.Inthisexaggeratedexample,thereadingshouldbe5%.
(c)Whenthedemarcationofthecolourchangelayerispale.Readthevalueinthemiddlebetweenthedarklayerendandthepalelayerend.Inthisexaggeratedexample,thereadingshouldbe5%.
Excessivewatervapour(dewpointswetterthan-20pdp)canoftenleadtofalsereadingswiththistypeofdetectiontube.Theoilmistdetectiontubeisparticularlysusceptibletopoisoningbyexcessivewatervapour.Ifthewatervapourlevelsarehigherthantheinternationalstandards,thesystemshouldbeinvestigatedandthewatervapourlevelreducedbeforefurtheranalysis.
