Print Techniques

Micro PrintVery tiny print (.75 point) can be included in the label graphics design. Intentional defects can also be added in this print. Micro Print can be viewed with an inexpensive magnification glass.

Pattern VarnishLabels and cartons can be over varnished with a pattern plate creating a wallpaper effect of a repeating image. Within that image (plate) intentional defects such as the letter N being reversed can be made that are only known to brand owners and security inspectors.

Varnish VoidA small dot of varnish void can be incorporated into the over varnish of the label or carton. The location of this void dot can be changed from lot to lot.

Track and Trace

Each label or carton or a C-clip on an insert can be uniquely identified with a variable alpha numeric or code. The brand owner can use this mark to track and authenticate the product.

Digital Fingerprint

Digital Fingerprint

Serialization with Track & Trace In accordance with DSCSA & GS1 US Standards(Drug Supply Chain and Security Act 2013)

Definition:Unique identifying number (2D/3D barcode or QR) assigned and variably printed to each individual Rx package via label, folding carton or insert/outsertGTIN (Global Trade Identifying Number) NDC (National Drug Code)

Purpose:1. Verify Rx drugs authenticity down to individual package level2. Enhance detection of counterfeit drugs found in supply chain 3. Facilitate more efficient recalls (FDA) of drug products

CCL Solution:1. Digital (HP Indigo)2. Flexo with Domino Variable Data Print 3. Inkjet4. Thermal transfer

With digital production, every label is a production run of one. Serialized or random numbering can be accomplished within the art file. CCL can pre-serialize labels or folding cartons to meet local regulations globally.13

Covert Features

Secure TaggantA secure taggant is mixed in a clear varnish at a predetermined percentage by weight. A mark in a designated location on the label or carton (.375 X .375) is made during the manufacturing process. This mark can be scanned using a hand held reader to give a yes (present) or no (fake) indication. The reader is similar in size to a key fob you would use to unlock your car.

Lens to reveal hidden code

A pattern that is invisible to the human eye is printed within the label graphics. The hidden pattern is revealed using an inexpensive lens.

Luminescent InksThese are inks that are invisible under normal lighting. They are only visible under ultraviolet light. They are available in several colors. This is a minimal security feature that would be used as an initial check of authenticity.

This is a white ink that is virtually invisible when printed over a white material or UV flexographic ink. When rubbed with the edge of a coin, the ink turns grey revealing the printed image.

Coin Reactive Ink

Micro DotsThese microscopic dots are mixed into a varnish or ink and are visible using a magnification device. The dots can be customized with your logo or tracking identifier and unique 2D bar code.

Micro DotsCan be imbedded into label substrate (paper and Teslin)

Forensic Features

DNAA botanically manufactured DNA strand specific to the brand owner is mixed in a clear varnish. The DNA presence can be detected by a swab and UV light test. The DNA is identified in the field or by laboratory testing.
