The initial idea was a chase scene that is part of a larger
story so this initial sequence may leave the audience askinga few questions about the larger story and characters
motives. Initially there was only the main character and
miscellaneous figures but as I progressed with the story I
decided some more influential characters were needed. The
core of the plot has stayed the same and this sequence is
almost identical. The character in these concept images
needs some work, as does the environment as I have decided
to add a greater element of science fiction. However, I amvery pleased with the colour palette. I really like the earth
tones used and I think keeping bright colours to a minimum
helps the tone of the story.

The colour palette is quite minimal with only a few touches
of colour for details on characters and the environment. I
think keeping the amount of bright colours at a minimum
helps to give to give a bleak feel to the animation and also
reflects many film noir productions which use heavy
shadows, a dark colour palette and reject bright colours.

Colour Script
This is the colour script for the sequence. It is fairly
consistent throughout. I like the use of similar tones and the
depressing look that the colours create. The tone of the story
should be mysterious and desolate and I feel the colour
palette really helps to bring this out.

Character Research
Rick Deckard, Blade Runner
Deckard is a sort of anti‐hero. His motives and actions are questionable. His
character seems very isolated in a large futuristic city. He has dreams of owning
a real animal but he will never achieve it and to try and earn some money he is a
bounty hunter. At times he can seem depressive and not have much luck. I would
like these traits to show in my protagonist as I want to show the isolation in alarge city and have a loveable character but one who’s motives can be called into
question.
Eddie, Lock, stock and two smoking barrels
Eddie is a very sympathetic character. He has got himself into trouble with the
wrong people but only because he was cheated. He is very intelligent and is easy
for the audience to relate to
Catherine Tramell, Basic instinct
Catherine is a very cold character, exactly how I want my femme fatale to be. She
seduces men with her looks and gets them to do what she wants but then she
turns and shows her evil side. She doesn’t care for rules and is very assertive.
These are qualities I want my female character to have, as I want to show her as
a strong woman.

Character Design
I wanted the designs of the characters to clearly show thescience fiction elements to reflect the setting and create
curiosity within the audience. I wanted to give them some
strange clothing without it looking ridiculous and detaching
the audience from the characters. There were certain
aspects that I wanted include from my research into film
noir; in particular, I wanted the protagonist to wear a
vintage looking hat as in film noir most male characters
wear hats, which was typical of the period.
Designs for the protagonist

This is my out come for the protagonist of the story. I
particularly liked his hunched posture as I feel that it shows
his fragility. I really like the colour palette used here as it fitsin with the environment and shows that this character is not
really wealthy or powerful. I like how I kept the stereotype
of the film noir detective within this design as well with the
hat and cigarette. I feel that this design has the perfect
balance of a science fiction look as well as having certain
vintage aspects.

For the femme fatale, I wanted a good‐looking girl but to
have a hard edge about her. In my initial design I created a
very elegant looking woman but I thought that she looked a
bit soft, as I wanted the character to be quite hands on and
have a rough personality. My final design shows a characterthat I think displays these aspects easily. I think that the fact
that she is dressed in a more masculine fashion help to show
her grittiness to the audience. I also think that she looks
quite futuristic without going over the top and she has a
mean look about her, which helps to identify her as the rival.

Environment Concepts
I wanted the environment to emulate that of a futuristic city. I
tried to make it look very desolate and dark. I wanted to show
the idea of an isolated future that can be unforgiving. I used
dark tones and strange architecture to show this.
This is a watercolour painting to show one of the alleyways of
the city. I tried to use dark colour with heavy shadow. I
wanted to try to make the area look unfriendly. For the other
landscapes I wanted to use dark, basic colours to give the
sense of continuity and that feel of city buildings all being very
similar in ways which can make it seem like a maze at times.

Object Concepts
Rick Deckard and Han Solo’s pistols
These two pistols are very iconic, particularly Han Solo’s. They look as if they could
be real and as if they are easy and comfortable to wield. They also look quite
menacing; I want to have all of these qualities in my protagonist’s weapon.
Here are a few concepts for the protagonist’s pistol. I like the colour palette show
above and I like the science fiction elements within the weapons. I wanted to have a
short barrel on the gun as I think it makes it look more stocky and powerful as well
as being an irregular shape with adds some intrigue to the object.

Here are some examples of briefcases. I wanted the briefcase to be easily identifiable
as it is a key object in the story. I was also looking for more of a vintage look as
though this object was made some time ago and its true origin and power remains a
mystery.
These are some concepts I have made for the briefcase. I wanted to keep the look of
it quite simple so it is easily recognised yet could also be seen as nothing special. I
also tried to make it distinctive with the colour palette and the pattern on the case.

Script
Fade in:
The protagonist is seen at a table with a few interested bystanders. What he is doing
is not clear but it looks as if he is trying to sell something. As he smokes his cigarette
he sees the Femme Fatale out of the corner of his eye and begins to choke on the half
inhaled smoke. As he begins to cough he catches the eye of the woman.
PROTAGONIST
Crap!
FEMME FATALE
(in an excited tone)
Got ya now!
She has an evil grin on her face.
Immediately he drops his cigarette and scrambles for a dark brown antique
briefcase but nothing else. He throws the table over to buy himself some time and
begins to run. He has a bit of a distance over her he reaches for the gun tucked in his
trousers but stops suddenly
PROTAGONIST
(V.O.)
(Thinking to himself)
No! Remember what happened last time

He rounds the corner and ducks into an alleyway only to find a dead end. A
smirk appears on his face, he knows the woman is behind him now.
FEMME FATALE
Finally I’ve caught you, now return what’s mine
PROTAGONIST
You haven’t caught me yet…
He says while slowly turning to face his pursuer, and in a quick motion flicks the
catch on the briefcase, which drowns the alleyway in black smoke for a fewseconds. When the smoke rises it is revealed that he has escaped leaving only his
hunter.
FEMME FATALE
(Hisses)
I will get back what you stole from me! Just you wait…
