Later, fish are scattered but tube jigs, lindy rigs, triple ripples, are good choices. White Bass Follow the birds! The white bass will be chasing shad! Use silver castmasters or another shad imitation. Often attracted to flows when the reservoir is filling (especially at 40-52°F). Largemouth Bass Bass fishing can be frustrating given the limited amount of structure. Try rock rip-rap areas with crayfish imitations. Channel Catfish Best baits are cut shad or chicken liver. Night fishing is best. Walleye The 2018 gillnet survey indicates walleye fishing at Boyd Lake should be good and very similar to angling during 2016-2018 based on the number of walleye caught per net.. The chart below illustrates the detailed length frequency distribution of the 106 walleye sampled during 2018. Six (6) gillnets were deployed and fished overnight. The 2018 survey documented 6-8 inch fish which were stocked during the spring of 2018 and a large cohort of walleye exceeding the 15 inch minimum size to keep category. White Bass A total of 33 white bass were sampled during the fall of 2018. The density of white bass is relatively stable compared to previous years. Key notes from the chart below is the existence of at least 3 year classes, including brood stock adults. Presence of 5-6” white bass indicates the adults successfully reproduced during 2018, a good sign for future white bass fishing. Channel Catfish A total of 13 channel catfish were identified in the 2018 survey, mostly very large fish. The absence of smaller fish is likely the results of a limited supply as this species was not stocked in 2016 and 2017. The largest individual measured 28 inches at nearly 10 lbs. 2019 Fishing Forecast Google Earth41% Rainbow Trout Thousands of 10-inch rainbow trout are stocked annually at Boyd. In general the number we sample is relatively low by design as trout are stocked in the spring or well after the fall survey is completed. In recent years ice fishing at Boyd has become extremely popular. Thus, Boyd Lake will again be a good ice fishing destination for a number of species this winter. 2018 Fall Survey (9/27/2018) 6 Gillnets 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 #WALLEYE SAMPLED LENGTH (INCHES) Length Frequency - Boyd Lake Walleye 2018 Survey More news The Centennial Bass Club of Northern Colorado spearheaded a project to install artificial habitat which provides cover, promotes plankton grown, and adds structure for fish communities.
