    Inspiring audiences for more than 25 years, each visionary performance of the award-winning Borromeo String Quartet strengthens its reputation as one of the most important ensembles of our time. Based in Boston, the quartet has been ensemble-in-residence at the New England Conservatory and Taos School of Music for 25 years, as well as at the Heifetz International Music Institute. They have also worked extensively with the Library of Congress and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

    New York-based Harlem Quartet, currently serving a three-year residency at London’s Royal College of Music, has been praised for its “panache” by The New York Times and hailed in the Cincinnati Enquirer for “bringing a new attitude to classical music, one that is fresh, bracing and intelligent.” Since its debut at Carnegie Hall in 2006, the ensemble has thrilled audiences in 47 states as well as in the U.K., France, Belgium, Brazil, Panama, Canada, Venezuela, Japan, and South Africa.

    John Patitucci, double bass, has been at the forefront of the jazz world for over 30 years and active in all styles of music. He is a three-time Grammy award winner, and has performed and recorded with jazz giants such as Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Stan Getz, Wynton Marsalis, and countless others.     The Smetana Trio, founded in 1934, is today’s foremost Czech chamber ensemble. The trio perpetuates the interpretational ideals created by its illustrious predecessors as well as other superlative 20th-century soloists active in chamber music. “There is nothing routine about the Smetana Trio’s approach to this engaging repertoire. Every aspect of their interpretation is carefully considered without losing an ounce of spontaneity.     Winner of the 2019 Franco Buitoni Award, Quartetto di Cremona is a preeminent quartet of its generation, noted for its lustrous sound, refined musicianship, and stylistic versatility. Based in Genoa, Italy, the quartet was established in 2000 at the Accademia Walter Stauffer in Cremona. Since then Quartetto di Cremona has toured extensively in Europe, the United States, South America, and Asia, appeared at leading festivals, and performed regularly on radio and television broadcasts.     The Schumann Quartet has reached a stage where anything is possible. The quartet has been in residency at Chamber Music Society of the Lincoln Center, and has toured in the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands.   • Community OutreachEducational Outreach Programs CMC offers exceptional outreach programs by our world-class chamber ensembles, where students learn about the instruments, composers, music, and musicians. We also present master classes for young and amateur musicians, as well as programs for adults, Southern Oregon University students and faculty, Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and retirement communities. CMC’s outreach programs are targeted to smaller audiences for a more friendly, meaningful experience with the artists. All outreach programs are free. Please contact the CMC Office for information on sponsoring outreach programs.

    Pre-concert Lectures CMC offers free pre-concert lectures one hour before every performance (evenings and matinees). These informative and entertaining lectures are presented by musicologist Ed Wight, and will give you insights on the composers and repertoire featured in each concert. Lectures are held in Room 132 of the Music Building.

    Discounted Tickets Our outreach effort to the community includes special discounts so that CMC concerts are affordable for everyone. Please contact the CMC Office for availability.

    Scholarship Fund In 2006 CMC established a Scholarship Fund to benefit talented SOU music majors. The fund provides scholarships of up to $20,000 over four years to selected music majors chosen by the SOU music faculty. There have been a total of 17 winners since the program’s inception.
