OUR NEW CANADIAN INTERNS Through the College of the Rockies and the Canadian International Development Agency , we are pleased to have two new

Canadians interns, Miranda Radok and Séverine Debacker, who will be with us for six months, until November, 2011.

Miranda Radok Marketing Officer for Sustainable Development

Miranda Radok is a recent Bachelor of Commerce Graduate, with a specialization in international

business, from the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island. During her undergraduate studies she

developed a strong interest for CSR and Fair Trade from coursework and extracurricular involve-

ment with the UVic Business Sustainability Club and the Commerce Students’ Society.

Through her studies, Miranda had the opportunity to spend one semester in Peru, and two semes-

ters in Mexico. In 2007 she went with Students without Borders, to teach in English in Chiclayo,

Peru. Following this experience, Miranda studied one semester in Puebla, Mexico, and worked for

one semester with the reinsurance giant SwissRe in Mexico City, Mexico.

Her most recent work experience includes working in the shipping industry with the multi

national company, Hapag Llloyd, and coordinating purchasing and logistics for Discovery Organics, a

produce importer in Vancouver, BC. Working for Discovery Organics strengthened her knowledge

and interest of Fair Trade, as Discovery Organics is one of the most important Fair Trade importers

Séverine Debacker Marketing Officer for Sustainable Tourism

Originally from Nice in France, Séverine Debacker has diverse background with experience

in Health, Tourism, Communications, Humanitarian, Education, and banking. After completing

her Bachelor in Management and Communications in France, her passion to travel and help

people led her to Canada eight years ago to study her MBA in International management at

Laval University. While completing her Masters, she traveled in Peru to attend a Latin-

American Negotiations program. Further, for her Masters thesis she explored “Gender Poli-

cies and AIDS in Developing Countries”. After finishing her MBA, she moved to Vancouver

and she proudly received her Canadian citizenship in 2009. In Vancouver, Séverine worked

for more than five years in diverse capacities for the BC Francophone community in Educa-

tion and Health promotion projects.

Before coming to Canada, Séverine worked for the ESCP-EAP, a Chamber of Commerce

Business School in Paris, serving as a liaison and organizing seminars on European Business

for MBA students from across the Americas. She also had the opportunity to work in Ger-

many for Schleicher and Co. International A.G., a manufacturer and distributer of data Shredders, in the Purchase and Ex-

port Departments.

Her interests led her to purse various continuing studies courses at the University of British Columbia on Sustainability,

Leadership and sustainable communities. Séverine loves building partnerships with organizations and people from different

backgrounds for a common goal. She is really excited for the opportunity to work with the Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber

of Commerce in Guayaquil and bring her background and skills in project management, communications, strategic planning,

and research to build the bridge between Ecuador and Canada and to develop sustainable tourism in the region of

Guayaquil.

NEW BEGINNINGS

As you many of you already know, at the beginning of May we moved to

our new location in the Blue Towers, in which we now share our office

space with the Canadian Consulate, led by Paola Pastor. This is a great op-

portunity for the Chamber to further fortify our relations with the Consu-

late. Furthermore, the office is larger which means that there is more space

for our growing team.

At the beginning on May we also welcomed Cristina Hol-

guin as our new Officer of Marketing and Public Relations.

Additionally, along with with Director, Jessica Nicolalde,

and our Canadian interns, we also have two Ecuadorian

interns, Leonardo Intriago and Vanessa Benites who have

been with us since April. Leonardo and Vanessa are an

integral part of our team and are doing an outstanding job.

Vanessa is studying an undergraduate degree in Interna-

tional Business at UEES and Leonardo studies International

CRISTINA HOLGUIN

Cristina Holguín has been working with the Chamber since the beginning of May as our new Marketing and Public Relations Officer. Her job is to affiliate companies and individuals that are interested in having links between Ecuador and Canada, whether it be through trade, education, and tourism. Additionally, she manages our web page and magazine “Conexiones”, as well as advertising and events of the Chamber. Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Cristina studied a Bachelors degree in Communications with a major in Public relations in 2000, and completed her Masters degree in Education and Organizational development in 2007, both at in the University Casa Grande. Her stud-ies were focused in everything related to communications, marketing, and education. For 12 years, she was worked in the education field in which she taught English and mar-keting for the New World Education Center. In this organization she had the opportunity to be a part of the group of teachers who taught the International Bachelorette program. In this program, she gained a lot of knowledge and experience through the opportunities she

had including attending conferences and seminars in Quito, Argentina, and Peru. Being a part of the Chamber has been a great accomplishment for Cristina and she enjoys the opportunity that she gets to work with Canadians, and Ecuadorians to build business relationships, contacts, and most of all, friendships. Executive Director of the Centers for Interamerican Studies and the Chancellor of the Interamerican Institute of Technology.

ERNIE MILLARD

Ernie Millard is a Canadian executive management consultant and seasoned leader with experience in Post Secondary Education,

International Trade, investment, government and non-profit, property management, and hospitality industry experience. Additionally,

he has 28 years of experience in human resource development, business development and process re-engineering, strategic planning,

resource allocation, financial administration, and management information systems. He is currently interested in tourism develop-

ment and investing in Ecuador.

PAST EVENTS WELCOME TO THE NEW HONORARY CONSUL OF CANADA IN GUAYAQUIL

Friday, June 10th, 2011

With the collaboration of the Embassy and the Consulate of Canada, we proudly welcomed Basil Haylock,

as the new Honorary Consul of Canada in Guayaquil. The event took place in the Historic Park of

Guayaquil and it was our pleasure to share this moment in the presence of the Vice-Consul of the Pre-

fecture, the Sub-Secretary of the Coastal Tourism, Directors of the Chamber, and entrepreneurs from the

community. The event was a great success and we especially want to thank our sponsors for making the

THE IMPLENTATION OF NIFF

Monday June 13th, and Monday June 20th, 2011

On the 13th and 20th of June, these free seminars about the Elaboration of the Plan of Implementation of the NIFF were carried out in the audi-

torium of the Edificio Blue Towers. The conferences were given by Enrique Castillo Quioñez, the leader of the commission of the Project of the

application of the IFRS. Both conferences had a great turn out. Special thanks to Academicos and Universidad del Pacificos for their support.
