Comeback win for Guatemala over Nicaragua

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2013. ‐ Opening match at the 15th Boy’s U21 Central American Championship was a five set thriller win coming from behind for Guatemala over Nicaragua by 20‐25, 26‐28, 25‐21, 25‐14, 20‐18. Guatemala had difficulties in organizing their strategy with Nicaragua taking advantage in winning the first two sets. Defending champions took command of the actions in the third set, neutralizing their opponent’s offensive line.

The winners held advantage of 13‐10 in blocking and 9‐4 in aces, while Nicaragua was superior in kills by 41‐37. The top scorer for Guatemala was opposite Juan Rodas with 16 points followed by also opposite player John Leon with 11 points. For Nicaragua Opposite Kevin Duarte was the best scorer with 19 points, including 4 blocks. “We suffered a lot” said excited captain Juan Jose Gonzalez of Guatemala. “We were able to win thanks to the union between all my teammates and coming from behind gives us confidence for what comes ahead in the tournament” he added. For captain Bryan Orozco of Nicaragua the loss was hard to take “our overconfidence cost us the match, giving Guatemala too many opportunities; but overall it was a good match and I’m proud of my team because this is only the beginning, we have more to give.” Coach Alvinzi Pelaez of Guatemala explained why things began slowly for them “we had lot of instability and Nicaragua was attacking comfortably; we were able to serve stronger in things improved and this was essential for our victory.” “Guatemala shook us with their serves from the third set on and my setter made some bad decisions. There is more to come and Nicaragua has a good team to do better” indicated coach Osman Hernandez.

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de noviembre de 2013.‐ El juego de apertura del XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub‐21 Masculino fue de cinco sets emocionantes con Guatemala viniendo de abajo para vencer a Nicaragua por 20‐25, 26‐28, 25‐21, 25‐14, 20‐18. Guatemala tuvo dificultades en organizar su estrategia con Nicaragua tomando ventaja ganando los primeros dos parciales. El campeón defensor tomó mando de las acciones en el tercer

set, neutralizando la línea ofensiva nicaragüense. Los ganadores tuvieron ventaja de 13‐10 en el bloqueo y 9‐4 en puntos de servicio, mientras que Nicaragua fue superior en el ataque por 41‐37. El máximo anotador de Guatemala fue el opuesto Juan Rodas con 16 puntos, seguido por el también opuesto John León con 11 puntos. Para Nicaragua, el opuesto Kevin Duarte fue el mejor anotador con 19 puntos, incluyendo 4 de bloqueo. “Sufrimos demasiado” dijo emocionado el capitán Juan José González de Guatemala. “Pudimos ganar gracias a la unión de equipo y viniendo de atrás nos da confianza para lo que todavía falta del torneo” agregó. Para el capitán Bryan Orozco de Nicaragua, la derrota es difícil de asimilar “nuestro exceso de confianza nos costó el juego, otorgándole a Guatemala muchas oportunidades; en general fue un buen juego y estoy orgulloso de mi equipo porque este es solo el principio, tenemos más que dar”. El entrenador Alvinzi Peláez de Guatemala explicó por qué las cosas iniciaron lento para ellos “tuvimos mucha inestabilidad y Nicaragua atacó cómodamente; pudimos sacar con más fuerza y las cosas mejoraron, siendo esto fundamental para el triunfo.” “Guatemala nos complicó con su servicio desde a partir del tercer set y mi acomodador tomó malas decisiones. Aún falta y Nicaragua tiene un buen equipo para hacer las cosas mejor” indicó el entrenador Osman Hernández.

Costa Rica debuts with straight set victory

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2013.‐ Costa Rica beat Honduras in straight sets 27‐25, 25‐20, 25‐23 in their debut at the 15th Boy’s Central American Championship taking place at El Salvador Both team’s performance was similar as they maintained the scores close. Costa Rica held advantage in attacks by 28‐25 and in aces by 5‐3; in the blocking category both teams scored 6 points.

With 10 points, Meyson Garcia was the best scorer for Costa Rica, followed by Cesar Gomez with 9 points. Honduras’ William Thompson scored 10 points for the team’s top performance. “It’s a good start for us, we were able to find their mistakes, analyze them and execute in our favor; I hope we can do the same against the other teams. Winning a first match is comforting, we are very pleased” expressed captain Andres Araya of Costa Rica. Captain Jonathan Massu of Honduras said “it was a tight match, we were always close in the score but we had too many mistakes. We only lost a battle, not the war; we’ll keep our good energy”. “The team did well; it’s a good beginning for us and mainly with a straight win earning 5 valuable points. Always a first match is a difficult one and even more with a long trip like we had” indicated coach Mauricio Prado of Costa Rica. Honduras’ coach Rony Martinez said “I always feel proud of my boys. As I said before, we’re missing to players from our starting lineup and the team is adjusting; the tournament is still young”.

Costa Rica debuta con triunfo de sets seguidos

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de noviembre de 2013.‐ Costa Rica derrotó a Honduras en sets seguidos 27‐25, 25‐20, 25‐23 en su debut en el XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 21 Masculino que se celebra en El Salvador. Ambos equipos se desempeñaron de forma similar, manteniendo el marcador cerca. Costa Rica tuvo ventaja de 28‐25 en el ataque y de 5‐3 en puntos de servicio; en la categoría de bloqueo, ambos equipos anotaron 6 puntos.

Con 10 puntos, Meyson García fue el mejor anotador para Costa Rica, seguido por César Gómez con 9 puntos. William Thompson de Honduras anotó 10 puntos para ser el de mejor desempeño. “Es un buen inicio para nosotros, supimos encontrar sus errores, analizarlos y ejecutar a nuestro favor; espero que podamos hacer lo mismo con los demás equipos. Ganar el primer juego es reconfortante, estamos contentos” expresó Andrés Araya el capitán de Costa Rica. Jonatha Massu capitán de Honduras dijo “fue un juego muy apretado, siempre estuvimos cerca en el marcador pero cometimos muchos errores. Solo se perdió una batalla, no la guerra; mantendremos el ánimo arriba.” “El equipo lo hizo bien; es un buen inicio para nosotros, principalmente en sets seguidos ganando 5 valiosos puntos. Siempre el primer juego es difícil y más cuando se ha tenido un viaje largo como el que tuvimos nosotros” indicó el entrenador Mauricio Prado de Costa Rica. El entrenador hondureño Rony Martínez dijo “siempre me siento orgulloso de mis muchachos. Como dije anteriormente, nos hace falta dos jugadores de nuestro cuadro titular y el equipo se está adaptando; el torneo aún es joven.”

Host El Salvador defeats Belize

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2013.‐ El Salvador host of the 15th Boy’s Central American Championship defeated Belize 3‐0 (25‐19, 25‐16, 25‐19) in the last match of opening day. The home team boys understood themselves well enough to take control of the actions of the match that lasted 1 hour 10 minutes. El Salvador performed better than Belize in all categories: 30‐36 in spikes, 7‐3 in blocks and 5‐3 in aces and committed less errors than those of Belize by 22‐33.

Captain Samuel Valdez of El Salvador led his team to victory with 16 points, including 3 aces, along with 11 points from Oscar Gil. Raluni Bernardez of Belize was their best scorer with 12 points. “First I want to thank the crowd for cheering for us; they are an important part of our team. We began anxious but from the second set forward we played with less pressure. Belize performed well but I’m glad we took the win” said Valdez. Yserri Palacio captain of Belize indicated “to be honest, Belize is capable of more than what we did today. This is the first international tournament for us together as a team and we’re lacking chemistry”. Coach Ricardo Rivera of El Salvador was content with his team’s victory “this is an important win because the tournament is very competitive and every point will count in the end. I was surprised with Belize’s performance, they have talented players and they are improving every day; they were up in the score in the second set but my team responded with good reception and a strong attack.” Leslie Leon coach of Belize agreed with his captain “our chemistry is not there yet and we’re making mistakes in the fundamental skills. I can say that 90% of today’s loss was due to nerves as the boys are young and inexperienced.”

El Salvador derrota a Belize

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 12 de noviembre de 2013.‐ El Salvador, anfitrión del XV Campeonato Centroamericano Sub 21 Masculino derrotó a Belize 3‐0 (25‐19, 25‐16, 25‐19) en el último juego del día de apertura. Los locales se entendieron en la cancha lo suficiente para tomar control de las acciones del juego que duró 1 hora 10 minutos. El Salvador se desempeñó mejor que Belize en todas las categorías: 30‐36 en ataque, 7‐3 en bloqueo y 5‐3 en puntos de servicio, además cometieron menos faltas que las de Belize por 22‐33.

El capitán de El Salvador Samuel Valdez lideró a su equipo en la victoria con 16 puntos, incluyendo 3 aces, acompañado por 11 puntos de Oscar Gil. Raluni Bernardez de Belize fue su máximo anotador con 12 puntos. “Primero quiero agradecer al público que nos apoyó; son parte importante de nuestro equipo. Empezamos ansiosos pero del segundo set en adelante jugamos con menos presión. Belize lo hizo bien pero estoy contento que nosotros ganáramos” dijo Valdez. Yserri Palacio capitán de Belize indicó “para ser honesto, Belize tiene capacidad de hacerlo mejor que hoy. Este es el primer torneo internacional para nosotros juntos como equipo y aun carecemos de química”. El entrenador Ricardo Rivera de El Salvador se mostró contento con la victoria de su equipo “es un triunfo importante porque este torneo es muy competitivo y cada punto contará al final. Me sorprendió el desempeño de Belize, son jugadores con talento y cada día van mejorando; estuvieron arriba en el marcador del segundo set pero mi equipo respondió con buena recepción y ataque fuerte”. Leslie León entrenador de Belize estuvo de acuerdo con su capitán “aún nos falta química y estamos fallando en los fundamentos. Puedo decir que el 90% de nuestra derrota se debió a los nervios ya que son muchachos jóvenes y sin experiencia.”
