Boilers
Cochran Boiler• It is vertical, Multi-tubular, internally fired, fire tube
boiler having a number of horizontal fire tubes• Maxi evaporative capacity is 4000 kg of steam per hour• Maxi pressure of steam is 10 bar
Elements• Cylindrical shell• Grate and Ashpit• Fire Box• Flue pipe• Fire Tubes • Combustion chamber• Chimney• Manhole• Damper
Boiler Mountings• Pressure Gauge – Indicates the pressure of the steam• Water Gauge – Indicates the water level. This level should
not fall below a particular level• Safety Valve – prevent the steam pressure• Steam Stop valve – regulates the flow of steam from
boiler to requirements• Blow – off valve – used to remove the impurities like mud,
etc.,• Fusible plug – Protects fire tubes from burning when
water level falls abnormally low
Advantages :• The dome shape of the furnace causes the host gases to
deflect back and pass through the flue pipe• It occupies less floor area and is very compact.
Construction cost is low• It is well suited for small capacity requirements
Disadvantages:• Capacity is less because of the vertical design
