BognorRegis Gol Club hasa long andascinating

historywhichwillonlyaddtothesenseooccasion

whenyouplaythebeautiulcourse.

Theclubwasrstormedinthewintero1892,inthecentreoBognorRegisapproximately1.5milesromitscurrentlocation.

Aroundthis timethepopularity ogolwasrapidlyincreasingwith new courses being laid out all over the south coast at

placeslikeRoyalEastbourne&Seaord(1887),andjustalongthe

coastatLittlehampton(1889).Inthe1890stheconstructionothecourseitselwasareasonablysimpletask.Givenanareaograssland,astartwasmadeatpointAneartheclubhouse.PointB,probablysome200ydsdistantwasselected,whereaholewas

dugintheturandaagstickplacedinit.Fromthereeightmoreholeswerelaidout,withtheninthholeagainneartheclubhouse.

Thesimpliedrulesotheearlyyearsogolprovidedthatthe

rstshottothenextholeshouldbeplayednotlessthantwonormorethanourclublengthsromtheholejustcompleted!On

23rdMarch1892,therstcompetitionMedalwaspresentedtoMrDEdgellwithagrossscoretotalling98ortworounds.

In1906theclubrelocatedclosertoitscurrentlocationonlandbetweenBognor& Felpham andthe openingceremony took

placeon13thJunethatyear.AeatureotheHookLanecoursewastheRiverRie,whichclaimedmanyaballandcreatedaside

industryorthecaddies,whoretrievedthemandcareullywashed,

driedandre-paintedtheballsorre-saleintheclubhouse.

Bythe1920s the act that Bognor remaineda 9hole coursewas becomingan issue in attracting and retaining members

andvisitors.TheclubcommitteeworkedhardtondsuitablegroundstorelocatetoandtheDownviewRoadsitewaschosen.
