Welcome to the University of Chichester Self-Guided Campus Tour. This tour shouldtake around 30 – 45 minutes to complete.Please note that the tour route includes stairs,however, there are lifts or ramps availableadjacent to each set of stairs. Please do takecare when crossing the roads on campus, usingthe pedestrian crossings where possible. Pleasenote that if you are visiting on a weekendoutside of term-time, some of the buildingsnoted on this tour may not be open.

Welcome to the University of Chichester

Welcome to the University ofChichester Bognor Regis Campus,home to around 1500 students

Our Bishop Otter Campus in the city of Chichesteris seven miles away, and caters for our remaining3500 students. The stagecoach U7 bus service runsbetween the two campuses throughout the dayfrom the bus stop outside the main entrance. Youare currently just five minutes from the beach, andyou will see that the campus boasts beautifulGeorgian architecture including three grandmansion houses, St Michael’s, the Dome andMordington House, as well as our impressive newLearning Resource Centre.

We are a small, yet growing institution, renownedfor its friendly and welcoming feel - our studentsatisfaction and retention rates are amongst thebest in the country. The tour will take you to thekey buildings on this campus.

Our Learning Resource Centre was part of a multi-million combined redevelopment, which includedthe new library building and the refurbishment ofthe Dome. Our Library catalogue includes 40,000books, subscriptions to over 100 print journals aswell as electronic access to a further 12,000journals and 250,000 e-books. You will find a rangeof individual and group study areas throughout theLearning Resource Centre.

Our team of Subject Librarians can assist studentswith specialist resource requirements, and canobtain books and journal articles from the BritishLibrary via Inter-Library Loans. Our TeacherTraining students can also access a range ofpractical teaching resources to use in preparationand delivery of their placements.

The building is the home of our Support andInformation Zone (SIZ), your central point ofcontact for library, reception, IT and StudentSupport services. Students can also access theEquipment Loans service, providing video andsound recording equipment, and laptops.

2. John Parry Centre

Our newly refurbished John Parry Centre is a multi-purpose teaching space comprising a 130 seatedlecture space, 4 classrooms with seating for 30persons and 2 large practical work areas for ourEducation students to use for subjects such as; Art,Music, Science and Design Technology.

DirectionsOn exiting the John Parry Centre, head backtowards the front of the LRC and bear right ontothe yellow paved area and continue to the front ofthe St Michael’s Building (3).

DirectionsWhen exiting the door by which you entered, youneed to bear left towards the grand confier tree,bear right when the path splits, continue under thetree canopy and take the right fork once again. Youhave now reached Charlotte House (4).

St. Michael’s, Bognor Regis Campus

3. St.Michael’s

St Michael’s has evolved over three centuries sinceits construction in 1793. The building has servedmany purposes including a stately home, residentialschool for young ladies and an emergency trainingcollege for teachers, before merging with theBishop Otter College in 1977.

Today the building currently houses a number ofseminar and lecture spaces. Our teaching roomsare equipped with state-of-the-art technology,including interactive whiteboards to assist in thedelivery of an outstanding teaching experience.

Please feel free to come inside and explore thebuilding some more.

5. Student Accommodation(Barbara Smith Halls)

Barbara Smith Halls offers 160 single study roomswith en-suite shower, wc and basin around a centralcourtyard. There are a range of flat sizes from 2 to6 people per floor. All our Halls of Residenceinclude a catering package, and each flat alsoincludes a fully furnished kitchen with oven,microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster as well asample storage space for food.

DirectionsAfter making you’re way down the set of steps you will findyourself in the main courtyard area. If you pass under the arch-way to your left and continue back towards the zebra crossing youwill notice another large red brick building on the right hand sideof the path. These are our Longbrook Halls of Residence (6).

Charlotte house is a designated ‘quiet block’ Thereare 6 single rooms, all are rented on a catered basisand have shared bathroom facilities. These facilitiesare within the self-contained building on your right.

Longbrook offers the option of 52 single or 7 twinrooms on a catered basis with shared bathroomfacilities. All rooms have their own desk, wardrobeand wash basin and have access to a fully furnishedkitchen.

7. Dining Hall

Our Dining Hall provides breakfast and eveningmeals (Mon-Fri, and brunch format on Sat & Sun)to our students who are staying in our cateredaccommodation, and there is always plenty ofchoice. You are welcome to use the Dining Hallfacilities during your visit. The Dining Hall is open allday for staff and students, and offers a selection ofhot and cold meals. As an alternative we also havea Costa Coffee café within our learning resourcecentre.

The MII is our Student Union for the Bognor RegisCampus, providing a range of student activities,including fancy dress, karaoke, quiz nights and livecomedy evenings. It also hosts events organised byindividual societies or departments, as well as theannual Bognor RAG Race, which sees around 2000students in fancy dress raising money for charity.

DirectionsExiting through the same doors you entered you can nowturn right and continue along the straight path, this will leadyou to the top of the yellow paved area. Please continue tothe end of the path and you will find The Dome (9) with apicnic area opposite the entrance.

Originally built in 1793, the university has recentlyspent £6.35m on refurbishing The Dome to ourflagship centre for Business and Enterprise. Itincludes 6 state-of-the-art seminar rooms, a lecturespace with meeting and open access spaces on theground floor. The building also includes a hub forlocal business ventures. The rooms have beenmodelled around the business environment wehope our students will be working in oncegraduating from the university.

The Assembly Theatre is our designated onsiterehearsal space for the Musical Theatre students,who are taught across both campuses and also atthe Alexandra Theatre in the centre of BognorRegis town centre.

11. Mordington House

Although this building was originally designed astwo separate houses in 1793, it is now the base forour Event Management, Tourism Management andMathematics & Teaching programmes. Within thisgrand setting you will find specifically adaptedrooms with teaching and lecture spaces on eachfloor. You’re never far from a friendly face as youcan also find the offices for administration staffhere too.
