    The Hobsons Bay Boat Ramps Pontoon Upgrade has been completedAltona Boat Ramp

    Pontoon No. 2Pontoon no.2 is a newly constructed 80 metr

    pontoon which abuts ramp no.2 .

    This pontoon will provide mooring on the outsidof the pontoon and along the end 40 metres onthe inside of the pontoon.

    Pontoon No. 1Pontoon no. 1 has been relocated to abut rampno.1.

    A buoy will be placed between the pontoon andthe rockwall restricting access to this area to en-sure the safety of people and boats.

    Pontoon no.3Pontoon no. 3 has been relocated to abut rampno.2.

    This pontoon will provide mooring along theoutside of the pontoon .

    obsons Bay Boat Ramp Users Surveyhe Council received State Government funding to undertake the pontoon works. The need topgrade the capacity of the pontoons at the Altona Boat Ramp and The Warmies was identified in the005 and 2008 Hobsons Bay Boat Ramp Users Survey. These surveys were undertaken to:

    Gather users information.Receive users feedback.Support funding applications.

    t the conclusion of the 2010/11 fishing season the Council will undertake the 2011 Hobsons Bay Boatamp Users Survey. As part of this survey users will be asked to comment on the pontoonprovements undertaken at the boat ramp.

    Approximately 3,600 m3 of spoil willbe removed from Eastern rockwall.

    Approximately 1,400 m3 of spoil will beremoved from the Entrance Channel

    ltona Safe Harbour Dredginghe 2010 Altona Safe Harbour dredging will commence on Monday 13th September 2010. A cutteruction dredger will clear approximately 5,000 cubic metres of spoil from the Harbour entrancehannel and along the eastern rockwall, at a cost of approximately $100,000.

    he spoil will be disposed of on the sandbar system approximately 300400 metres off shore fromurns Reserve. Temporary buoys will placed on the seaward side of the spoil ground during the

    orks. It is envisaged that the dredging of the channel entrance will be completed by 24th September010 and the eastern wall will be completed by 22nd October 2010.

    uring the dredging works the boat ramp will be operational but expect delays during the dredging ofhe Harbour entrance channel.

    he below hydrographic survey taken in July 2010 shows the area in red is currently between .51etres deep and the area in green indicates a depth of between 11.5 metres.

    Mako Shark FishingThe Federal Government has amended a Bill allowing recreational fishers to resume fishing forshortfin and longfin mako sharks. The Victorian bag limit of one shark per day can include onemako shark.

    Protecting Victorian Snapper HarvestThe Department of Primary Industries (DPI) is seeking limits on the amount of Victorian snapper thatCommonwealth licensed commercial trawl fishers are allowed to harvest. Currently there is noenforceable limit and the DPI has requested the Australian Fisheries Management Authority restrictoperators to a maximum of 50 kg of snapper as a by product of each trip.

    Illegal Fishing NetsThe Frankston Magistrates Court heard two men used a 60 metre long monofilament mesh net atGlade, near the mouth of the Patterson River a Carrum in May 2010. The men caught 143 fish; 7Stingrays, 107 Mullet, 2 Flathead, 4 Australian Salmon, 12 Garfish, 10 Sand Crabs and 1 BeakedSalmon. The DPI told the Court there had been an increase in the number of illegal netting operationalong the eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay, in the last nine months and Mornington fisheries officerhave apprehended seven groups illegally netting.

    Reduce the Spread of European Green Shore CrabsTo help prevent the spread of the invasive crab, Victoria has new regulations: Recreational anglers must not use European green shore crabs as live bait nor return live

    unused crabs to the water. European green shore crabs can now be taken in unlimited numbers everywhere other than in

    Angler Diaries CatchValuable DataPreliminary data gathered by volunteers participating in the Research Angler Diary Program on theGoulburn River suggests up to 1 in every 4 fish being caught are stocked fish, benefiting anglersfrom recent trout stocking into the Goulburn River.

    The program has recorded the species, length and whether the trout caught was stocked or wildfrom 114 catches from the Goulbourn River anglers. Information about fish growth, spawningsuccess / survival and catch trends will help inform the sustainable management of fish stocks.
