Director’s Report submitted by: Lara Lorenzi March 2015 Library Board of Trustees Meeting Informational Updates:

• The library has installed the new book/av drop for our patrons. We are monitoring usage of all the book drops withthe expectation that empting the book drop on Sunday’s will no longer be necessary. PASD has secured the bookdrop so it cannot be moved.

• The library was closed on the following dates due to weather:o Monday Feb 2nd-closed at 5pmo Monday Feb 9th- closed at 5pmo Tuesday Feb 17th-closed all dayo Saturday Feb 20th- closed at 3:30pm

• The library was closed on Monday Feb. 16 in honor of President’s Day.Personnel Updates: None at this time. Facilities Update:

• PASD has been out to change light bulbs, replace a broken toilet and have completed other routine maintenancetasks.

• PASD has been preparing the sidewalks when we have had to deal with snow/ice during work hours. Our sidle walkshave been well taken care of this year. In the spring PASD will be out to power wash the walks.

Statistical updates: Door Count:

• Door count ytd:o From July 2013-Feb. 2014 total door count was: 98,405o From July 2014-Feb. 2015 total door count is: 89,272

This is a 9% decrease from 2013-2014.• Door Count Current month:

o Feb. 2014 door count:: 9,466o Feb. 2015 door count:: 9,534

This is a 1% increase from the previous year. We were closed quite a bit this month, had we beenopen our regular service hours I believe our door count numbers would have been higher.

Chester County Library System Updates: • Just a reminder: Starting March 2, 2015 patrons will be able to freeze their holds. This is done solely by the patron

with no staff interaction. A patron has to freeze the item before the hold is pulled. The patron has to also unfreeze thehold; staff members cannot do this for them. The default freeze is for 255 days. This is a great new addition if you areplanning on being out of the area for travel, etc.

• Joint SAC/DLM meeting will be Tuesday Feb 10th at 6pm, dinner will be served at 5:30pm. Don Titus will attendrepresenting the library trustees.

Youth Services Report for February 2015

March 2015 Board Meeting

Community Outreach • U.S. Passport Agent Passport Acceptance Sessions, weekly.• Ongoing outreach to community schools via site visits and through contact regarding library events. Circulation• Desk coverage regularly and on as needed basis.

February Programming Children’s Library

Winter programming continued having started January 5.

Special Events in February • Take Your Child to the Library Day, All day February 7. Activities table offered crafts, activity sheets, and reading

information for parents, etc. Parents were encouraged to get their children library cards. Results: 24 made crafts, 7 library cards issued, 34 DVD rentals.

• Young Adults Valentine’s Day Guessing Contest: 27 participated. Winner received candy in jar; gift card to RegalMovie Theaters.

• Blind Date with a Book for Young Adults – throughout month of February.

Special Events Planned for February: • Dolphin Tale 2 Family Movie, February 17, cancelled, weather-related.• Rockin’ Thru History-The Underground Railroad, cancelled, weather-related.

Special Events Coming in March • Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day Family Movie (Rated PG), March 17, 6:00 PM.• Linda Bunting, Children’s Performer with guitar and movement, Preschool and families. March 21, 3:00 PM.

Future Programming • Developed two programs for PASD Summer Camp 2015:

o Fizz, Boom, Experiment: a science class for ages 4 – 7 on June 22, 23, & 24 at the Middle School.o Lights, Camera, Reading: a theatrical production consisting of reading a picture book and then acting it

out for loved ones at the end of each class. Ages 4 – 7 on June 29, 30, & July 1 at the Middle School.o Science in the Summer. PASD has invited us to hold our classes there once again. Details not available.

• Currently planning programming for remainder of school year.• Ongoing planning for the Summer 2015 programs and activities. Five weeks of intensive programming will run

from July 6 through August 7. Thrilling Thursdays will be July 9 through August 6.

Accessibility • Publicity for Winter programming: library calendar, various online calendars, and area print media.• Library displays: Valentine’s Day theme throughout Children’s Library followed by February is Library Lover’s

Month. Books/materials displays: Children’s Authors/Illustrators Week, National Bird Feeding Month, BlackHistory Month, Chinese New Year, Fairy Tale Day.

Meetings • Represented library at PASD Summer Camp Fair, February 23, 5 – 8:00 PM. Display table of current calendar of

events with previews of coming Summer 2015 programming and activities. Approximately 60 people stopped by the table: 6 signed up for Fizz, Boom, Experiment science; 25 expressed interest in Science in the Summer event.
