REQUEST TO FILL VACANT POSITION
TO: Mark Young, Finance and Budget subcommittee Chair Donita Pikes, Director, Human Resources Department Keith Francis, Controller FROM: David Leyton, Prosecuting Attorney DATE: September 4, 2014 RE: Request to Fill a Vacant Position Request: I ask to appear before the Finance Budget Subcommittee at its next scheduled meeting, Wednesday, September 10th, 2014 so that I may request to fill a Crime Victim Advocate position, vacant as of yesterday, either as a temporary Leave of Absence or as a permanent hire. Explanation: Sherry Long, one of our two Crime Victim Advocates, was placed on temporary suspension yesterday. Her employment status will be revisited Monday, September 8th, at which time we anticipate the strong probability that the result will be no less than a vacancy for a significant duration. This is a key professional position in our office. Ms. Long has been responsible for all our victims at the District Court level and has worked exclusively in our McCree building. Our only other Crime Victim Advocate works similarly in the Courthouse. With Ms. Long no longer able to work at this time, we have a huge need to cover this function. No one else on our staff can assume these responsibilities. This position is funded in the budget by our Crime Victim Services grant and thus does not charge to the county’s general fund. Even though the exact nature of her employment status will be determined on Monday, we ask to appear at your meeting on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 – at which time we will know that exact status -- so that we can have the earliest opportunity to address this vacancy. Thank you for your consideration.
