BluetoothBased on IEEE 802.15.1, Bluetooth was developed for the purpose of sending larger amounts of data quickly from computers to PDAs to cell phones or other portable handheld devices. Key features: frequency hopping, very small form factor and modest power consumption.
ZigBeeBased on IEEE 802.15.4 standard, ZigBee was developed for the purpose of sending small amounts of data, short distances, using very little power. Key features of this technology is the ability to create a self healing mesh network where nodes ātalkā to each other in a way that gets a message to a desired end point using the best path. When not in use, nodes will āsleepā using extremely little power.
Z-WaveWell accepted for home networking, Z-Wave is based on a proprietary standard and single chipset vendor. Z-Wave provides a low cost, low power, low speed method of sending data across a mesh network. Although encryption is not included, Z-Wave is safe due to nodes only joining a network when an association occurs within very close proximity to the controller.

Transmission Speed (kBs)When considering the amount of data that needs to be moved and how important it is to move it quickly, Bluetooth technology has the highest transmission speed.
When a network requires tens of thousands of nodes ZigBee offers the largest possible network which in turn enables more fl exibility.
If battery life is important, then Z-Wave is the best choice once cost is also factored in.
When considering cost alone, Panasonicās ISM modules are the most economical when compared with the average unit cost of the other three technologies.

Conforming to the Bluetooth 1.2 specifi cation with a small footprint of 22.8 x 13.4 x 2.2 mm this module can help make any product a Bluetooth product. Utilizing the Broadcom (Zeevo) based ZV4301, Panasonic can reduce your time-to-market by addressing issues of Bluetooth qualifi cation and FCC certifi cation. The Bluetooth Chip incorporates the 32-bit ARM7TDMITM CPU core with suffi cient bandwidth to support a wide range of embedded ĀµController applications. The module also provides full ARM7 software development access. The PAN1550 can also capitalize on the full-speed USB Version 2.0 protocol.

Great distances of 100 meters (Line of Site) are possible with Panasonicās PAN1560 Bluetooth module. No need for additional qualifi cations with this certifi ed Bluetooth module. Utilize the serial and additional interfaces for integration into your system. The PAN1560 is manufactured in a 47.5 x 20.0 x 4.0 mm SMD package with an integrated ceramic antenna and has been qualifi ed as a Bluetooth 1.2 product. Active frequency hopping and audio capability on an SCO channel are some of the features of this module. Embedded SPP, GAP and SDAP profi les are available.

The PAN2350 is a low power UHF narrowband transceiver, specially designed for both ISM and SRD band frequencies. It is easily programmed for operation at a number of other frequencies. This extremely compact and multi-functional module is intended for the ISM frequency bands between 300 and 1000 MHz. This wireless transceiver and can be linked to a wide range of devices including home appliances and keyless entry through SPI. Programming the vast functionalities is done via SPI. The PAN2355 is made for all applications where a wide band bidirectional data transfer with high speed is needed. The PAN2450 module is a low power UHF transceiver, with a completely integrated (autonomous) micro-controller and a highly effi cient power amplifi er. It is designed for ISM and SRD band frequencies. It can be easily programmed for operations at other frequencies. The modem complies with EN 300-220 and FCC CFR47 part 15 and offers a low cost solution for many ISM-applications. Itās an optimal solution for all applications where a narrow band and wide band bidirectional data transfer function is required. The PAN4555 module is a short range, low power, 2.4 GHz ISM band transceiver. It includes a complete 802.15.4 physical layer (PHY) modem. It is designed for the IEEE 802.15.4 wireless standard and microcontroller (MCU). The module also has a reference oscillator which provides a cost effective solution for short-range data links and networks. Software is included and can be scaled to fi t the application from simple point to point proprietary systems to ZigBee networking. Applications
The PAN4555 Easy-To-Use module is the easiest way to make the fi rst step into the ZigBee world. Very simple testing and prototyping with a normal perf or stripboard. No special designs are needed to get this module working. The module is a short range, low power, 2.4 GHz ISM band transceiver which includes a complete 802.15.4 physical layer (PHY) modem. Designed for the IEEE 802.15.4 wireless standard and an independant micro-controller (MCU) with a reference oscillator to provides a cost effective solution for short-range data links and networks. The software is included and can be scaled to fi t the application.
