We live and breathe agriculture. For only those with a deep understanding of agriculture are capable of producing agricultural machinery which meet all the customer's requirements. We see innovations from the human point of view, the people who use our equipment - and we are ground breaking in the selection of materials and work processes as well as in the functionality and user-friendliness of the implements. Numerous patents and awards demonstrate that this path is our future.

After all we are following a vision - A vision in which farmers can live profitably. The exchange between farmers, trade and manufacturers is the basis for mutual success, as well as the foundation for a global food supply ensured by sustainable efficient engineering. Our agricultural machinery is not only instantly recognisable by its blue colour, but primarily by the way it works on the field. Soil cultivation equipment which prepares the soil perfectly for sowing. Sowing equipment enabling highly precise sowing results which are crucial to obtaining high yields. And, plant protection equipment which protects the yield and ensures an environmentally compatible distribution.

We supply agricultural technology that convinces not only by its innovation and its diversity. We offer individual solutions for farms of every size, for every market and for every demand. Our equipment is not only designed on the computer, but is created in a continuous dialogue with the people who use the machines: farmers and machinery contractors all over the world. Our agricultural machinery has been designed to give the best performance even under challenging and demanding conditions. For this reason, nothing is left to chance in production: Already in the choice of the special steels, we focus on high quality to be able to meet the highest resistance to load and wear. All in-coming material is checked by spectral analysis before we accept the delivery. The outstanding properties of our equipment are ultimately only possible if suppliers provide the very best quality.

In our "Hardening and Tempering" Department, the raw materials are transformed into tough and wear-resistant work pieces in largely automated processes. This is a process in which every degree Celsius determines the right cooling, the hardened structure and the time intervals. Robotic grind-ing machines especially developed for us ensure exceptionally smooth surface finishes. The grinding direction corresponds to the flow of the soil stream on the mouldboard so that it remains easy to pull in all soils.

Our highly modern cathodic dip-paint coating machine is used to apply the paint particles electrolytically onto the component. Subsequently they are burned in to ensure a long-lasting protection against corrosion. Finally, the equipment is assembled by our expert staff and given a final inspection by the quality assurance department. This is a procedure which is given an extremely high priority during the entire production cycle. Subsequently the units are dispatched to farmers all over the world and convince with their operating reliability, user-friendliness and above all with their performance in the field.

Our Development Department is the cradle of all innovations. Our engineers always work with the aim of offering farmers quantifiable added value. For this purpose the implement has to increase the yield per hectare or has to make the work better, easier, more environmentally friendly or less strenuous.

Here are some examples: In 1978 we wanted to improve the adjustment comfort of ploughs and at the same time we wanted to increase the traction of the tractors trailing the implements. The solution was our Optiquick Adjustment Centre, which at a later point in time was used for all LEMKEN mounted tractor ploughs. Another milestone was the VarioPack furrow press with extendible press ring concept. The traction point controlled trailer and other functional elements have been created in our company - and are still the standard for furrow presses of the latest generation.

A list that can be continued indefinitely. We created disc cultivators with offset concave discs and interchangeable wing shares, a seedbed combination unsurpassed up to now with double crumbler rollers, the semi-mounted reversible plough with new type of reversing gear or double disc type coulter with depth rollers in pneumatic drilling machines. The Rubin short disc harrow is unique to this day with its disc position and soil guidance. In soil cultivation, our Zirkon rotary harrow has caused a stir. Its direction of rotation can be reversed, thus permitting varying levels of tillage.

Recently, the DuraMaxx plough body has created a sensation: Compared to normal steel, our hard tool steel permits up to 75 per cent higher area coverage before the wearing parts are worn. The unit passes through the soil easier which saves fuel. In addition, the wearing parts are mounted on the carrier by simply hooking them on, and can be changed twice as quickly and without tools. The fastening elements are glued on which prevents ruptures in the hole area, increasing the service life considerably.

The story continues with a traction enhancement by weight transmission from the plough or cultivator to the tractor, the quick-change system for cultivators or the TriMix coulter system for compact cultivators which achieves almost as much with one tine as others with three.

Our development work, close co-operation with farmers, universities and research institutes as well as participation in fundamental research will continue in the future too. Aimed at providing farmers with whatever it takes to increase the efficiency of their efforts.

We see ourselves as an enterprise based on proximity and co-operation - not only for farmers, dealers and business partners, but also for the markets we operate in. Our headquarters in Alphen have a production area of 55,000 m² and additional production sites have been established in Meppen and Föhren in Germany. In 2012 we started production of tilling machines in Nagpur, India. In addition, we have service centres in Detschino, Russia and Qingdao in China in order not only to be able to supply these regions of the world cost-efficiently, but also to establish a local presence. More than 1,000 employees currently work for us all over the world, and their numbers are continuing to rise.

At present, 22 branch offices supply the markets in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa - and our sales network is expanded continuously. Apart from Germany, the main sales markets in Europe are France and Russia at present, but markets overseas, such as Canada or China, are continuing to grow.

Ploughs account for about one third of our sales, followed by short-disc harrows, seed drills, rotary harrows, cultivators, field sprayers, seedbed combinations and packers. By expanding the range and opening up new markets, as well as the concept of being close to the farmer, the turnover was more than quadrupled between 2003 and 2012. This is a success we all have a share in.

Our factory in Alpen is open to all interested farmers and dealers at any time. Blue means sustainability and food security

As a specialist for professional crop production we feel a particular obligation to environmental protection and sustainable production processes. Our equipment is therefore constantly improved to live up to this claim.

Many of our soil tilling machines have been fitted with traction assistance which transfers weight force to the rear axle of the tractor. This not only increases the working speed, it also enables fuel savings of up to 20 per cent.

Another example of a sustainably designed product is our intensive cultivator Karat. Whilst many machines have a limited functional range, this unit has been fitted with a quick-change system so the implements can be changed quickly. This optimal use also contributes to significant reductions in fuel consumption.

Our modern agricultural machinery helps make more efficient use of the existing agricultural potential, and boost yields. This is our way of making an effective contribution to global food supplies. resources and the reduction of CO2 emissions in production. We are aware of our responsibility and invest continually in optimising the operational processes. Our administrative offices were completed in 2004, and already then used the process heat generated during production to heat the building in winter. This means that energy consumption costs are about 77 per cent lower than in a conventional office building of a comparable size.

When the paint shop was constructed in 2009, components were used which use heat exchangers to heat the assembly shop. In order to cover another part of the energy required by geothermal energy, fifty probes were installed to a depth of 30 metres. In this way we save about 500 tonnes of CO2 annually.

In 2012, a photovoltaic system was installed on our factory in Alpen. This system generates a maximum output of about 515 kW, and contributes towards reducing emissions by a further 250 tonnes of CO2 every year. In this way our production processes are environmentally compatible, and our products make a major contribution towards feeding the world's population.

At LEMKEN we truly believe that progress can only be achieved as a team. The expertise and abilities of each individual combine to ensure our joint success. Mutual trust on all levels and an open dialogue are always at the foundation of the further development of all corporate divisions.

At our company, we rely on the qualifications and motivation of the staff members. More than 30 per cent of the present employees at our parent company in Alpen have completed their professional training with us and have remained loyal to the company. New insights and experiences are shared continually so that they can be integrated in everyday work. More than 40 young people are learning technical and commercial skills at LEMKEN. Viktor Lemken was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his commitment to training and employees.

And our employees are not the only ones to benefit - farmers all around the world can also use our knowledge. Together with a number of partners in Ethiopia we operate a centre of excellence for German agricultural equipment which is also supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The local population in East Africa is familiarised with efficient cultivation practices and how to operate modern agricultural machinery with the aim of increasing production for the local market. In a similar facility in Ukraine, employees of agricultural enterprises are trained to handle machines and implements. Agricultural showpiece farms in Mongolia and China give local farmers impressive demonstrations of how they can improve their yields using modern production methods. We will continue this involvement in other countries. After all, knowledge benefits all.
