Four broad motivations behind the Blue Brain Project are:• Brain disease treatments• Scientific curiosity about consciousness and the human
mind• Integration of all neuro scientific research results
worldwide• Progress towards building thinking machines (bottom
up approach)
MOTIVATION
![Page 4: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Human brain, the most valuable creation of God. The man is called intelligent because of the brain. But we loss the knowledge of a brain when the body is destroyed after the death.
“BLUE BRAIN”- The name of the world’s first virtual brain. That means a machine that can function as human brain.
Is it really possible to create a human brain?
INTRODUCTION
![Page 5: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
• “YES", The IBM is now developing a virtual brain known as the BLUE BRAIN.
• It would be the worlds first virtual brain. Within 30 years, we will be able to scan ourselves into the computers.
WHAT IS BLUE BRAIN
![Page 6: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
• A machine that can function as brain • It can take decision.• It can think.• It can response.• It can keep things in memory.
WHAT IS VIRTUAL BRAIN?
![Page 7: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
• To upload contents of the natural brain into it .• To keep the intelligence , knowledge and skill of any person for ever .• To remember things without any effort .• The brain circuitry is in a complex state of flux, the brain rewiring itself every moment
of its existence. If the scientists can crack open the secret of how and why the brain does it, the knowledge could lead to new breed of supercomputers.
WHY WE NEED VIRTUAL BRAIN
![Page 8: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Sensory Input Receiving input such as sound ,image, etc. through sensory cell .
Interpretation Interpretation of the received input by
the brain by defining states of neurons in the brain.
• Motor Output Receiving of electric responses from the brain to perform any action .
FUNCTIONING OF BRAIN
![Page 9: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Modeling the neurons• The team will start by modeling the electrical structure of neural circuits • repeated throughout the brain and then map and model their
behavior.• Shape & Structure influences it’s electrical properties.• Infrared differential interference microscopy allow the systematic
quantification • of the molecular, morphological and electrical properties of the• different neurons.Modeling connections• Precise density & Volume of the Cell provides essential information • for constructing cortical circuits.• Blue Gene is used in intensive calculation to fix the synapse locations
MODELLING THE BRAIN
![Page 10: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Modeling the column• The result of all these calculations is a recreation at the cellular
level of • the NCC.• A model of NCC was completed at the end of 2006.Once complete,
they will move onto creating a molecular model of the neurons involved and a complete neocortex (the largest and most complex part of the human brain) before modelling the rest of the brain

BRAIN SIMULATION
![Page 13: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
NATURAL BRAIN V/S SIMULATED BRAIN
![Page 14: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
• Now there is no question how the virtual brain will work.
• But the question is how the human brain will be uploaded into it.
• This is also possible due to the fast growing technology.
![Page 15: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
UPLOADING HUMAN BRAIN
![Page 16: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
• The uploading is possible by the use of small robots known as the nanobots.
• These robots are small enough to travel through out our circulatory system.
• Traveling into the spine and brain, they will be able to monitor the activity and structure of our central nervous system.
• They will be able to provide an interface with computer while we still reside in our biological form .

• Nanobots could also carefully scan the structure of our brain, providing a complete readout of the connection.
• This information, when entered into a computer, could then continue to function as us.
• Thus the data stored in the entire brain will be uploaded into the computer.

EXAMPLE OF BLUE BRAIN
![Page 19: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
• A very good example of utilization of blue brain is the case "short term memory".
• In some movies we might have noticed that a person might be having short term memories.
![Page 20: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
• A another situation is that when a person gets older, then he starts forgetting or takes a bit more time to recognize to a person.
• For the above reason we need a blue brain. It is a simple chip that can be installed into the human brain for which the short term memory and volatile memory at the old age can be avoided.

• The project will search for insights into how human beings think and remember.
• Scientists think that blue brain could also help to cure the Parkinson's disease.
• The brain circuitry is in a complex state of flux, the brain rewiring itself every moment of its existence. If the scientists can crack open the secret of how and why the brain does it, the knowledge could lead to new breed of supercomputers.

DEMERITS • We become dependent upon the computer .
• Others may use technical knowledge against us.
• Another fear is found with respect to human cloning.
• A very costly procedure of regaining the memory back.
![Page 27: Blue brain](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022070510/58ab746a1a28abb54e8b60d5/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
CONCLUSION• We will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point.
• It will bring both benefits and harm to human society .
• Eventually aim of applying terrific computer power to the simulation
