Blue Ash is unique in so many ways ... for families, to live; for businesses, to work; for children, to play.

Whether you live, work or play in Blue Ash, this 2013 Official Community & Business Guide is just a peek into what makes Blue Ash so extraordinary.

As a resident of Blue Ash for the past 17 years, I was not surprised to learn that “Fortune Small Business” magazine rated Blue Ash among the 100 best places in America to live and launch a small business – the only Ohio community chosen.

Nor was I surprised when, in a book entitled “50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family,” Blue Ash was included among the top 50 – twice – out of thousands of communities across the country.

At the cross-section of the many businesses, parks, schools and streets that comprise Blue Ash, lies the Blue Ash Business Association, a business and civic organization whose mission is to promote, enhance and improve the Blue Ash business environment and the community in general.

Founded more than 25 years ago, the Blue Ash Business Association serves local businesses of all sizes. Its membership includes approximately 100 local businesses, and is growing. Members benefit through a mix of luncheon events with speakers, after-hours networking events, social events and outings.

Blue Ash Business Association events are held on the first Thursday of every month. Membership dues are very reasonable

the newly opened Cooper Creek Events Center, to the 130-acre park at the former airport site – which everyone’s talking about.

I am very honored to serve as the President of the Blue Ash Business Association and invite you to experience firsthand all that the Blue Ash Business Association has to offer. Please come to one of our meetings as my guest.

PARK IT!

Summit Park Will Be a Jewel In Blue Ash’s crown

A large commons area for events is a main attraction for Summit Park

I n 2012, Blue Ash City Council drafted a plan for the development of the park at the Blue Ash airport. Since then, the city has taken

over the former airport and given it a name – Summit Park. Further, city officials have been working alongside park planners to refine the master plan with some minor construction already completed.

In October 2012, after the grand opening of the park, nature trails were installed where mulch has been temporarily put down.

“I’m not sure if they are going to cement it in the future, or if they just want to have a natural feel for it,” says Emily Schaffer, communications assistant for the City of Blue Ash.

“But as of right now, there are no definite plans of what they are going to do with it.”

Work has also begun on the development of various park features.

According to an article found at the Blue Ash website, “MKSK Talks Future Plans at Summit Park” written by Schaffer, future plans were released early in 2013.

A council meeting was held in December 2012, where Clete Benken from MKSK unveiled the latest plans for the park. MKSK is a landscape architectural, urban design and planning company that is helping to create the park.

At the meeting, Benken said that the park would contain numerous zones.

The first will be created to serve as a “commons” area. Within this region, civic

gatherings and performances will be held as well as an incorporation of restaurant pads, bistros and a glass-covered canopy.

The canopy will be used as a means of protection from inclement weather for activities such as ice skating. It will also serve a purpose for maintaining an outdoor feel so it can be used year-round. Open since December 22, 2012, a temporary synthetic ice skating rink was installed in one of the former hangars.

Other additions such as fountains and ponds will be added within zone one.

The second zone will be created for adventure and activity. Included in this area is a sledding hill, dog park, picnic area and adventure play area.

An observation tower is to be added and is one of the key features in Summit Park. The tower will allow users to see views of nearby cities and, on a good weather day, downtown Cincinnati.

The third zone, called the “Frontier,” is described as the portion of the park that will be of most use. In this zone, a featured bikeway trail is to be added that will run along Plainfield Road and the park. Also to be added are cross-country trails and a possibility of BMX riding.

However, before any of the future plans take place, site drainage and grading will have to be completed. These two construction phases are the next steps in the process.

offering an individual sense of style to their customers. For example, the Next Best Thing (9662 Kenwood Road, 513-985-0888) offers a variety of handbags, jewelry, and other fashionable accessories, while the upscale consignment shop, Snooty Fox (9500 Kenwood Road, 513-791-6524), sells affordable furniture and brand-name clothing and apparel for women, juniors, children, men, and maternity. Along with its unique smaller shops, Blue Ash is a neighboring town to Kenwood Towne Centre. This large, upscale mall offers over 180 stores and dining options. Tri-County Mall is also located just 10 minutes outside of Blue Ash.

In addition to these shopping plazas, Target (9099 Plainfield Road, 513-898-2021) opened its doors to Blue Ash residents in 2011 as one of the largest retail outlets in the Tristate area.

In addition to Blue Ash’s nationally recognized restaurants and exotic culinary options, Pipkin’s Fruit and Vegetable Market (5035 Cooper Road, 513-791-3175) offers fresh, homegrown produce year-round. F orest Pharmaceutical Company is scheduled to open in July, bringing approximately 125 jobs to the Blue Ash area.

The company, which broke ground in January 2013 at the intersection of Kenwood Road and Osborne Boulevard, is an expansion of the Oakley location where it operates its manufacturing. The expanded area in Blue Ash will serve as the packaging site.

Described as a “state-of-the-art packaging facility” by economic director, Neil Hensley, this new $45 million facility will cover an 8-acre site with 190,000 square feet of space for packaging, warehousing, component testing and offices.

“We are excited to welcome a nationally recognized company like Forest Pharmaceuticals to the city of Blue Ash,” says Hensley. “Their decision to locate in our community further strengthens the growing cluster of Life Sciences which call Blue Ash home.”

In addition to the new pharmaceutical facility, which reinforces the city’s place as an increasing site for investment, employment and overall growth, several other nationally

recognized names in the Life Sciences industry are located in Blue Ash including, Ethicon, Clinical Trial and Consulting Services and Camargo Pharmaceuticals.

Growing older can often brings changes in the way we live. While we all are hopeful that we can spend our Golden

Years in our own homes, that’s not always possible. At least not without some help.

Blue Ash has myriad options for whatever your elder care needs may be – in-home care services, senior apartments, assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities.

One of the city’s most popular elder recreational facilities is the Sycamore Senior Center (4455 Carver Woods Drive, 513-984-1234). The center helps older adults live in their own homes giving them independence and dignity for as long as possible, while providing an enriched environment.

Center highlights include: a full-time licensed social worker; a handyman service; a nutritious

lunch (Meals-On-Wheels available to those who can’t visit the center); a computer learning center; transportation to the center as well as to medical appointments, the grocery and elsewhere; Medicare-certified home health care including professional nursing care; numerous continuing education classes; and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

BrightStar (10999 Reed Hartman Highway, 513-321-4688) also offers skilled and compassionate in-home care. The BrightStar team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It specializes in filling gaps in service when Medicare or Hospice are unable to meet all of your care needs. BrightStar can customize a plan for anyone’s situation.

If it’s nursing home care that’s needed, head to Blue Ash Nursing Rehabilitation Center (4900 Cooper Road, 513-793-3362), which boasts a full service skilled care facility.

For independent living, look no further than downtown Blue Ash and the furnished Town Square

Apartments (4719 Alma Ave., 513-984-1131). The Seasons (7300 Dearwester Drive, 513-

984-9400), a top-notch retirement community in nearby Kenwood, caters to those desiring independent or assisted living, offers skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services, with dining that is second to none.

If you prefer a countryside view, Evergreen & Wellspring (230 W. Galbraith, 866-354-5119) has 60 acres, a rehabilitation and memory support center, helping you relax in your assisted and independent community.
