Spring in the Mornington Peninsula gives you a chance to enjoy the wonderful fresh air with lots of family activities. Grab the kids, get out doors and meet baby animals of all sorts. The pouches are bulging with new life at Moonlit Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Park - home to the cutest swamp wallabies. Baby goats are always fun, and there are just so many of these cuties bouncing around at Main Ridge Dairy. At Rain Hayne Shine Farmyard the baby goats have loads of baby friends– ducklings, piglets, chickens and even goslings later in October. There are calves to feed with a bottle and loads of opportunities to cuddle and pat new friends. Green Olive at Red Hill has fun Farm Tours where you can feed the chooks and ducks, pat Gracie the pony and chat with the pigs.

Just bring your smile and your camera!

don’t miss ‘rock the boat’

- the 30th birthday party for searoad

ferries!

Since 1987, the car and passenger ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff has linked the Mornington Peninsula to the Great Ocean Road and become a joyous part of many daytrips and holidays.

The 5.6 nautical mile journey takes only 45 minutes, but floating along in the state of the art ferry makes it feel like you are a world away. It’s easy to see why Searoad Ferries are multiple tourism award winners - Hall of Fame for the Victorian Tourism Awards and a national winner for Major Tour and Transport operator. The southern part of Port Phillip includes marine national parks and is home to a unique species of dolphin who can be sometimes spotted surfing the bow waves of the ferry.

The ferry journey takes you past the clifftop mansions of Sorrento and Portsea and past the

spectacular coastline of Point Nepean National Park with its important indigenous history. You can spot the enormous chimney of the Quarantine Station and if you look a bit harder, the remnants of WW1 and WW2 fortifications.

October 21 will see Searoad Ferries celebrate 30 years of crossing Port Phillip with a special ferry party trip. Think live music, food trucks. pop up bars & roving entertainment! The boat will be rocking, tunes pumping and bubbles popping on the car deck which will be transformed into a party hub. 80’s finger food and DJ music will be followed by a fireworks display that will light up the Queenscliff skies.

Name of place here

Stretching from Dromana through to Sorrento, this 28 kilometer meandering trail through the foreshore reserve is flanked by the beautiful sandy bay beaches and clear waters of Port Phillip.

With Arthurs Seat behind you, there is any number of places to start the trail in Dromana - as long as you head south! The township of Dromana was proclaimed in 1861 and was well established as a seaside resort by 1881 and it’s not hard to imagine the pier busy with steamships taking holiday makers and produce to and from Melbourne. The sealed wide pathway offers an easy walk along the Dromana coast to the rocky cutting of Anthonys Nose - where Arthurs Seat falls steeply into the sea. The path continues through the McCrae camping grounds and past the tallest lighthouse in Port Phillip. It winds through the tall banksia and tea tree with campsites on one side and

the beach on the other to the pier at Rosebud (named after a shipwreck!) then through Capel Sound to the town of Rye. At the base of the aptly named Whitecliffs is an historic lime kiln that tells the story of how local limestone was mined and turned into lime to help create many of the buildings in Melbourne. Heading over Whitecliffs and through the Moonah trees along the foreshore of Blairgowrie, you pass the picturesque yacht club marina and arrive at Sullivan Bay and the Collins First Settlement site. It was here in 1803 the first official European settlement of Victoria was established. From here it’s on to Sorrento and up the hill behind the pier where the tram tracks built in 1889 for the Sorrento Tramway Company can still be seen. Through the Sorrento Park with its great playground and diverging a bit between Point King Road and Lentell Avenue will take you through the part of the Sorrento Portsea Artists Trail known as Millionaires Walk. To refresh, finish up at a favourite ‘watering hole’ in Portsea village.

Blairgowrie

If 28 kilometers along the Bay Trail sounds a bit much, then it’s easy to choose one section

to explore at a time. And if you plan it right you are never too far away from a coffee shop.

Try Dromana to McCrae, McCrae to Rosebud, Rosebud to Capel Sound, Capel Sound to Rye, Rye to Blairgowrie, Blairgowrie to Sorrento, or

Sorrento to Portsea.
