RAYNE’SMOST PERSONAL

BATTLE YET….When we last saw Rayne in 1935, she joined forces with

the shadowy Brimstone Society to destroy a supernatural Nazi bid

for dominance. Her father, Kagan, an influential Nazi collaborator,

was killed in an accident at the close of the War. Cheated of killing

Kagan herself, Rayne has spent the last

sixty years ferreting out and destroy-

ing his many offspring, her siblings.

They have banded together and

formed the Cult of Kagan, pledging

to carry on his legacy of creating a

new era of vampire supremacy

where humans are mere cattle for

the bloodthirsty predators that hunt

them. Rayne’s nefarious siblings

have created “The Shroud,” a myste-

rious substance which, when released,

renders the sun’s lethal rays harmless

to vampires and twists nature into a

nightmarish perversion. Now only Rayne

stands between an unsuspecting humanity

and a horrifying vampire dawn.

GAMEPLAYRayne has a wide range of abilities that make her a formidablehuntress. Her superhuman strength, agility and senses make hercapable of feats far beyond the scope of a normal human and haveallowed her to develop extraordinary skills:

MOVEMENTWalk, RunRayne moves forward when you press W. Press S to move backwards, A to move left, and D to move right. Press the Shiftkey to make Rayne walk.

JumpRayne can jump to her maximum height and length as long as youpress W while she is jumping. Pressing the Spacebar again whileRayne is in the air causes her to perform a somersault and gainadditional distance. The Spacebar also enables Rayne to reach hori-zontal and vertical poles. To change direction in mid-air, press theSpacebar a second time while pressing the appropriate key for thedirection you would like to move. Jumping can also be used withother keys to create combo attacks. See COMBO MOVES on pg. 15for more information.

KickRayne’s kicks have some serious power. Press F / Mouse B3 to easilydisarm opponents or break their blocking weapons with a well-placedfoot (this move is especially useful if Rayne needs health since armedenemies will block any attempts to feed on them). She can also kickher enemies into environmental hazards or other objects to bringthem to their death. Use the target lock Ctrl / Mouse B5 to concentrateyour kicks on one enemy or to perform low kick attacks. Rayne willstill perform high and mid kicks if you don’t use target lock but herattacks will be more sweeping and less focused on a particular indi-vidual. There are a wide range of kick combos you can earn so consultthe MOVES LIST from the Pause screen to experiment with them all.

COMBAT ABILITIESRayne has a wide range of combat abilities she can employ in a fight:

BLADE ATTACKS Rayne’s blades are her defining feature and her most dangerousasset. She has high, mid and low blade attacks that offer morevariety for dispatching her enemies. You’re more likely to beheadan enemy with high blade attacks you can perform by pressingMouse / B1 while pressing W. Press only Mouse / B1 to perform“mid” blade attacks directed at your opponent’s abdomen. Bladeattacks are also a critical part of combo strings. See COMBOMOVES on pg 15 for more information.

Target locked blade attacks are different than standard, non-targetedattacks. Use Ctrl /Mouse B5 to target a specific enemy and then useMouse /B1 to inflict high, mid or low blade attacks upon your chosen victim.

NOTE: Low blade attacks are only possible with target lock.Perform low blade attacks by pressing the Mouse / B1 and Ctrl /Mouse B5 while backing away from the enemy. Targeted attacksare more direct and focused while non-targeted attacks are moresweeping, enabling Rayne to slash multiple surrounding enemiesin more of a “room clearing” fashion.

Jumping Blade AttacksRayne can combine blade attacks with jumps for more powerfuloffensive moves. As you earn these combos, they will be added tothe MOVES LIST you can access from the Pause screen.

EVASIVE MANEUVERSRayne has a range of evasive maneuvers at her disposal to avoidmore aggressive enemies. Press Ctrl / Mouse B5 and Spacebartogether while pressing the appropriate key for your desireddirection. When you press A or D, Rayne will perform a side aerial in that direction. Pressing W will cause her to do a fronthandspring and pressing S will make her do a back handspring.

13

Ground StrikeRayne can attack victims when they’re on the ground and

she’s nearby. Pressing F/Mouse B3 (heel grind) or Mouse B1(finishing slash) launches Rayne’s brutal ground strike attacks.

Fence/Grate ClimbRayne can also climb certain surfaces, like fences for example, and jump back and forth between these parallel surfaces tomove vertically through an area. Use Aura Vision to help determine which surfaces Rayne can grab (these surfaces willglow yellow). Press the Spacebar while pushing the appropriatedirection key towards the surface to make Rayne cling to it, thenpress the Spacebar repeatedly to jump upward left to right fromsurface to surface. Push S while pressing the Spacebar to makeRayne release from the grab surface.

Target LockPress Ctrl / Mouse B5 to lock onto the nearest enemy. While lockedon a target, Rayne's motions are altered, and she always turns toface the locked on target. Rayne will still autotarget her guns ifyou don’t use lock-on but you will not have control over whichenemy is on the receiving end of your attack. Press W to moveRayne closer to her target and S to move her away. When the target is locked use Alt to change targets in your current view.

BlockCtrl / Mouse B5 doubles as a target lock and block button. Whenin combat situations, press Ctrl / Mouse B5 to block an enemy’sattack. Rayne will lift her blades up in defense as an enemyattacks (but note that some more powerful attacks won’t be“blockable” and you can’t block in Blood Rage).

12

Page 8: Bloodrayne 2 Manual

RailslidingWhen Rayne jumps onto a rail, she will automatically start slid-ing down it in a crouched position. Press the Left Arrow or RightArrow in conjunction with the Spacebar to make Rayne performan aerial jump to a parallel rail. While sliding, Rayne can also useboth her blades and guns to mow down enemies in her path.

COMBO MOVESOver the course of the game, Rayne will earn theability to perform more than 30 deadly combos.Every time you earn a new combo, it will beadded to a quick reference MOVES LISTaccessible from the Pause menu. Here are some basic combos Rayne has at her disposalfrom the start of thegame. The moreadvanced combostrings will unlockthrough gameplay.

These single moves can also be turned into evasive combostrings by simply pressing the Spacebar multiple times as youhold Ctrl / Mouse B5 and pressing the appropriate key for

your desired direction. See COMBO MOVES on pg 15 for moreinformation.

POLE COMBATHorizontal PolesPress the Spacebar while underneath a horizontal pole to makeRayne jump up, grab it and automatically swing up to a perchedposition on top of the pole. Press W to make Rayne rotate aroundthe pole in a laid out position. Press S to make Rayne drop back-wards and hang upside down from her knees. If you release thekey you initially pressed, Rayne will return to a perch. Whenused in conjunction with gunfire, these moves allow Rayne toprey on her enemies from above (her weapons will autotarget buttarget lock is not possible on poles).

While Rayne is perched, press A or D to make Rayne turn aroundon the pole so she faces the opposite direction. You can alsoswitch directions faster and more fluidly via a split flip by push-ing the Left Arrow or Right Arrow while Rayne is mid-rotation. Totransition to higher poles or lateral poles, press the Spacebar whileRayne is mid-rotation. Use Aura Vision to help determine whichpoles are accessible from your position.

Vertical PolesPress the Spacebar to jump onto a vertical pole. Press W to climbupwards and press S to make Rayne drop backwards and hang fromher knees. Continue to hold S and Rayne will slide down the pole inthis position. Combine this move with gunfire to mow down enemiesfrom a higher vantage point. Press A or D to make Rayne shimmyaround the pole in the desired direction. Press F / Mouse B3 to forceful-ly kick surrounding attackers backwards into the environment or eachother. While in an upright position, Rayne can also jump to an adja-cent vertical or horizontal pole if you press the Spacebar.

14 15

Page 9: Bloodrayne 2 Manual

EARNING EXPERIENCEBloodRayne has two different experience meters—one for carnage and another for her weapons. To earn carnage, Rayne mustkill enemies by using the environment. For example, you earnextra carnage points for impaling victims on things, setting themablaze by igniting barrels/tanks near them or with them, andthrowing enemies into objects to solve “killing puzzles.” To earnweapon experience, you need only use a particular weapon enoughto fill your gun experience meter entirely.

When Rayne fills her carnage meter, she will be rewarded with additional capacity on her health and rage meters.

WEAPON EXPERIENCEWeapon experience is particularly valuable because instead of earning a capacity upgrade, Rayne will actually earn a gun modeupgrade. Each of the six base weapons has two upgrades each. When Rayne maxes out her weapon experience meter, she will earnan upgrade for the weapon she’s currently using. That upgrade willbe a more powerful gun mode within the same weapon class.

NOTE: Once a weapon has been upgraded, the upgrade is permanent forthat weapon “family” so you can no longer use the less powerful baseweapon you upgraded from.

DHAMPIR GUNS Press Mouse B2 to fire Rayne's guns. You can also use weapon fire in conjunction with Ctrl / Mouse B5 to focus your fire moredirectly on a specific enemy. When not lockedon, Rayne will autotarget her weapons on the nearest enemies(NOTE: Rayne cannot lock on when she is on a pole). This will be more dynamic and will wound more enemies but her gunfire will not be as damaging to a single enemy as it would be with atargeted shot.

Rayne’s guns are also upgradeable once you gain enough experience using a particular weapon. See the WEAPON EXPERIENCEsection above.

NOTE: Gun fatalities are necessaryto increase your ammunition supplysince Rayne’s weapons “feed” onblood just like she does. Because ofthis, there are no ammo pick ups inthe game but every victim youencounter is potential “bloodammo.” If Rayne’s guns run out ofblood and you continue to fire, herweapons will “feed” off of her, decreasing her health meter.

HARPOON FUNCTIONSRayne’s harpoon is composed of a light throwing knife attachedto a retractable chain. It has two basic functions:

THROWING ENEMIESPress Ctrl / Mouse B5 to target your enemy, then press E / Num 0 to launch the harpoon. Continue to hold Ctrl / Mouse B5after the harpoon has pierced your victim. Before it retracts, therewill be a slight pause as Rayne readies for the pull backwards.During this moment, you can press W, S, A or D to make Raynewhip her victim in the direction pressed. This action is critical forcompleting the various “killing puzzles” found throughout thegame so learn to master it early.

19

FEEDINGRayne has built-in health recovery due to her half-vampire

heritage: drinking living blood. If Rayne is close to a victimwhen E / Num 0 is pressed, she begins feeding. She can feed fromtwo different directions—from the front or from behind. Whilefeeding from the front, press the Spacebar to make Rayne dis-mount her victim and forcefully kick him/her into other enemiesor environmental objects. When used in conjunction with themovement keys, this move is useful for aiming, launching andimpaling enemies on spikes or other nasty items. When feedingupright, Rayne can use her victim as a human shield—use theappropriate direction key to turn the body and interpose itbetween her and other enemies.

FATALITY MOVESFatality moves let Rayne end feeding in a spectacular fashion andbuild her rage meter faster than via regular blade attacks. There are12 different fatalities possible depending on how Rayne approachesher victim and which secondary key you press. Press E /Num 0 tobegin feeding, and before your victim is drained of blood and dies, press E /Num 0 again and/or press one of three different keys toinitiate a fatality. Make sure you consult the MOVES LIST from thePause screen to reference all available fatalities.

TIER 1 TIER 2 TIER 3Aura Vision Ghost Feed ?

Dilated Perception Super Speed ?

Blood Rage Blood Fury ?

Each ability consumes rage at a different rate and some requirethat the meter be completely filled before you can use them.

Aura VisionOne of Rayne's innate powers is the ability to expand her visualperception. In addition to serving as a natural night-vision, AuraVision allows Rayne to "see" living prey regardless of the light-ing. Aura Vision can also help Rayne navigate an area becausewhen in this mode Rayne can view accessible poles and rails thatshe can use to her advantage. Similarly, Aura helps Rayne identi-fy “killing puzzles” she has to solve in order to progress throughan area. Finally, Aura Vision also enables Rayne to see environ-mental objects she can manipulate as well as special “markings”left by other vampires and dhampir. These markings can some-times lead to secret doors that may appear to be dead ends innormal vision. Hit 2 / Num 2 to activate Aura Vision. This poweris available from the start of the game and will not drain Rayne’srage meter when in use.

Ghost FeedGhost Feed enables Rayne to send out a ghostly version of herselfto rapidly drain a targeted opponent’s health while increasing herown. This power has a long distance range similar to the harpoonand it cannot be blocked. Ghost Feed consumes 50% of Rayne’srage meter so if the meter is below half, you cannot use thispower. Press 2 / Num 2 twice to activate Ghost Feed.

21

BREAKING OBJECTSRayne’s harpoon also lets her use the environment to her

advantage. Certain weakened objects can be pulled loose to spilldebris down on enemies or pull the ground out from underneath

them. Press Ctrl /Mouse B5 to target these objects/areas (use AuraVision to determine which objects can be manipulated), press E /Num 0 to launch the harpoon and then use the movement keysto pull the object or area free.

POWERS & VISION MODESBlood powers and dhampir visions are an important part ofRayne’s combat and navigation abilities. She starts out with AuraVision, Dilated Perception and Blood Rage. All powers except AuraVision require rage to use and each will drain the meter while inuse (third tier powers will drain the meter the fastest because theyare the most powerful). To refill your drained rage meter, youneed to execute fatality moves (see FATALITY MOVES on pg. 18).

You can increase your capacity for Rage and Health by maxing outyour carnage meter. This is possible through environmental kills (i.e.impaling enemies, setting them on fire, solving killing puzzles, etc.).

Rayne will upgrade from Tier 1 abilities to Tier 2 abilities as shebeats certain bosses in game. Once you’ve earned an upgrade, youcan still use the previous base ability. Depending on the situation,it may be more favorable to use a lower tier ability because doingso will drain the rage meter slower (conversely, using a higher tierability will drain the meter significantly faster so while it may bemore powerful, it doesn’t last as long).

NOTE: Once you have a power or vision activated, you can return toNormal Vision mode or turn off any power by pressing 4/Num 4. Thetiered upgrade system works like this:

20

Page 12: Bloodrayne 2 Manual

Dilated PerceptionRayne has the innate ability to “slow down” time via DilatedPerception. In actuality, she’s simply processing sensory

information so fast that everything (including herself) seemsto be moving in slow motion. This allows her better control for hitting targets, evading attacks and dodging bullets. Press 3 / Num 3 to activate Dilated Perception. This power is availablefrom the start of the game.

Super SpeedSuper Speed enables Rayne to move at her normal speed whileher enemies move at a much slower pace. This makes them morevulnerable to her attacks and gives Rayne an obvious advantagein a heated battle. Press 3 / Num 3 twice to activate Super Speed.

Blood RageBlood Rage enables Rayne’s kick and blade attacks to yieldgreater damage and is available from the beginning of thegame as long as your rage meter has rage accumulated. Whilein Blood Rage mode, if Rayne takes damage, it will reduce herrage meter, not her health meter. Press 1 / Num 1 to activateBlood Rage. NOTE: You can not block attacks while in Blood Rage.

Blood FuryBlood Fury is an enhanced version of Blood Rage. Rayne will gainan additional rage attack at the end of the combo and inflict thatmuch more damage to her enemies who will be unable to blockher frenzy of attacks. To activate Blood Fury, press 1 / Num 1twice. If Rayne is attacked, the Bloodlust Meter will reduce andcontinue to drain as she takes additional damage.
