Transcript of Blood Supply of the Nose
Blood supply of the nose
-The blood supply to the nose is divided according to blood supply to the:A) Nasal septumB) Lateral nasal wall
- The blood supply of the nose is extensively arising from the external and internal carotid system.
- A) Nasal septum
Anterior ethmoidal artery
Posterior ethmoidal artery
Septal branch of superior labial aretry
Septal branch of greater palatine artery
Splenopalatine artery
Little`s Area
From the Internal Carotid System From the External Carotid System( through maxillary and facial artery)
Anterior and posterior ethmoidal artery*They are branches of opthalmic artery of ICA
1) Septal branch of superior labial artery* They arise from facial artery which arise from ECA2) Septal branch of greater palatine artery* They arise from maxillary artery which arise from ECA3) Splenopalatine artery* They arise from branches of maxillary artery
Little`s Area Mneumonics (LEGS)L - superior Labial arteryE - anterior Ethmoidal arteryG - Greater palatine arteryS - Sphenopalatine artery
- B) Lateral Wall of Nasal Cavity
Liitle`s areaAnteroinferior part of the nasal septum just above
the vestibule. It is the area where 4 arteries anostomose to form a vascular plexus called
Kiesselbach`s plexus. It is exposed to drying effect of inspiratory current and finger nail trauma, usual
site for epistaxis for young children and adult
From the Internal Carotid System From the External Carotid System( through maxillary and facial artery)
Anterior and posterior ethmoidal artery*They are branches of opthalmic artery of ICA
1) Posterior lateral nasal branches(From sphenopalatine artery)2. Greater palatine artery → From maxillary artery3. Nasal branch of anterior superior dental→ From infraorbital branch of maxillary artery4. Branches of facial artery to nasal vestibule
