Blogs tell stories
• Why would anyone bother to read one?
• Stories have starting points, a middle, and an end.
• Stories have core ideas about conflicts & success and how people can make a difference
A blog has a voice
• A voice is as unique as a fingerprint, as distinct as a signature, and a advocate for its message
• A voice is compelling and cannot thrive as a mere catalog of the details of the world
Blogs are passionate about their subjects
• Scratch the itch of curiosity and point in a specific direction
• Must capture their readers’ attention
• Prove ideas with links to sources without over doing it with details
Blog dedication to a craft
• No blog ever succeeded by following the directions “add water and microwave.”
• Stay up late, post early and often, with fresh content.
• Step away to avoid burn-out.
Polite blogs do not make a difference
• Uncork and let fly challenges to conventional wisdom
• Explain complex ideas• Repeat visits to
compelling subjects with new perspectives
• Post quality content or not at all
Honor before elegance
• Don’t waste readers’ time with trivia
• Illuminate your subject with high beams
• Inspire readers’ to want more, about the subject and from themselves
• Integrity is earned with every blog post
