What is the Black Box?

• Combines automating PCSWMM data evaluation and reporting, as well as a rethink/redesign of the traditional design calculations to create a real competitive advantage.

• The Black Box offers cost savings of hundreds of dollars (or more) per project.

What does the Black Box offer?

• Efficiency• Quality• Consistency and Transparency

• Responsiveness• Ease of Use

Page 4: Black Box Presentation

• Dramatically reduce the time it takes to create tables for reports.

• Improved quality reduces time spent on peer reviews.

• Reduces comments from the city and helps prevent having to do revisions.

• Makes doing multiple revisions much faster and easier.

Efficiency

Page 5: Black Box Presentation

• Black Box applies robust calculation algorithms to raw PCSWMM data, eliminating human error.

• Black Box has limited error checking, to make sure the model matches your design calculations.

Quality

Page 6: Black Box Presentation

• All future SWMRs will use consistent methodology in calculations regardless of designer.

• All formulas are viewable and editable in Excel.

Consistency and Transparency

Page 7: Black Box Presentation

• The ease and speed of revising existing tables allows us to respond quickly and accurately to design changes.

Responsiveness

Page 8: Black Box Presentation

• You don’t need to understand how the Black Box works to use it. (But you can if you want to.) That is why it is called the Black Box.

• The Black Box does not replace your brain.

Ease of Use

Page 9: Black Box Presentation

• The Red Box can be used to check for changes in existing models compared to old reports.

• The Red Box allows for quick, accurate revisions to existing tables with copy-pasting.

The Red Box

Page 10: Black Box Presentation

• Legacy 17 went 50% over-budget, due primarily to the number of revisions made.

• Every time a design change was made it would take multiple hours to revise the tables.

• With the Black Box, Legacy 17’s tables can be completely revised in about two minutes.

Demonstration

• Using a database and PCSWMMs report functions to make the Black Box even easier and faster to use.

• Configuring word document templates to work with the Black Box.

• Get a Black Box for your own projects!
