Babies

Cubs can be born in January or early February. The number of cubs in a litter is usually 2 in the western united states. And 3 in the eastern united states. First litters are often only 1 or 2. Litters of 6 have been reported in several eastern states.

Habitat

Black bears like large forests with many different kinds of fruits and nuts. Small sunny openings within the forest provide many kinds of food for the bears. Lowlands and wet lands provide tender and juicy vegetation. Streams and woodland pools provide water for drinking and cooling.

Description

Black bears are 4 to 7 feet from nose to tail and two to 3 feet high at the withers. It has eyes rounded ears, a long snout, a large body a short tail and shaggy hair. It differs from grizzly bears. Some black bear subspecies go by different names like Kermode bear or cinnamon bear or glacier bear but their all called black bears. A black bear has 4 legs and no wings a black bear has a tiny tail. Body fur usually black or brown but occasionally blond or rarely white as in the Kermode subspecies of coastal British Columbia. Communication

A black bear communicates by growling.

Interesting facts

Outside British Columbia only about one million black bears are white. One of these white bears are a sub-adult male lived near or Minnesota in 1997 .

The black bear would not make a good pet because it will eat you alive.
