MOVEMENT PRINCIPLES

1. Force-Motion.- That unbalanced forces are acting on our bodies or objects when we eithercreate or modify movement.

2. Force-Time.- It is not only the amount of force that can increase the motion of an object; theamount of time over which force can be applied also affects the resulting motion. A personusing a longer approach in bowling has more time to apply forces to increase ball speed

3. Inertia.- tay in a state. !epose or movement. The property of all objects to resist changes in

their state of motion.

". Range of Motion.- The overall motion used in a movement and can be specified by linear orangular motion of the body segments.

#. Balance.- Is a person$s ability to control their body position relative to some base of support.

%. Coordination Continuum.- ays that determining the optimal timing of muscle actions orsegmental motions depends on the goal of the movement.

&. Segmental Interaction.- ays that the forces acting in a system of lin'ed rigid bodies can betransferred through the lin's and joints.

(. Optimal Projection.- ays that for most human movements involving projectiles there is anoptimal range of projection angles for a specific goal.)

*. Spin.- +r rotations imparted to projectiles, and particularly sport balls. pin is desirable onthrown and struc' balls because it stabili-es.

BASIC UNITS

• SCALARS are variables that can be completely represented by a number and the units of

measurement.

• !CTORS are more complicated uantities, where si-e, units, and direction must be specified.

JOINT MOTINS

1. Fle"ion.- A decrease in joint angle in the sagittal plane.2. !"ten#ion.- Is a motion increasing joint angle.3. Adduction.- /otion of a segment away from the midline in the frontal plane". A$duction.- /ovement bac' toward the midlin

Planes
