• Last reigned monarch of Hawaiian islands.• Her mission was to preserve the islands for

native residents.• 1898 when Hawaii was annexed force to give

up her throne• born in Honolulu to high chief Kalakaua and

the chiefs Keohokalole.• Brother was King Kalakaua

• Ran in 1892 and won– Only president to serve nonconsecutive terms.
