BIM – Building Information Modeling
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle. Typically it uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in building design and construction. The process produces the Building Information Model (also abbreviated BIM), which encompasses building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components. A Building Information Model is a special case of a Facility Information Model.

BIM – Design Stages of the Project
Structural Engineers Coordinating with the Architect and Passing Models to the Fabricator
Stage 1: Conceptual Design

Stage 2: Structural Design
Engineer Builds Actual Structural Model Within Architectural
3D Coordination Allows Engineer and Architect to find/prevent Design Problems earlier
Stage 3: Structural Analysis
Direct Links to Analysis Programs Remove Import/Export Problems
Stage 4: Conceptual Connections
Find Connection Workability Problems Through Conceptual Connections
Stage 5: Model Coordination
As The Architectural Model Evolves, The Designer Verifies Structural System Works

Stage 6: Design Drawings
Design Drawings Come From and Match the Structural Model
So How Does This Benefit Me As A Fabricator?Prevent RFI’s and Costly Change Orders Often Caused By Design ErrorsExpedite and Generate Accurate Estimates and Advance Material PurchasesHead Start On Detailing.– Connect The Steel– Make Drawings– Get Steel Out the Door Faster
