Canadian Western Bank hosts a design competition annually for the Architectural Technology students at NAIT, and the 2012/2013 competition was for a new design for the Abbotsford BCbranch. My desire was to speak of the vitality of Canadian Western Bank through the design of the building. I accomplished this by designing a building that focused on sustainable building practices and energetic forms highlighted by aesthetically pleasing materials.

Since I wanted the design to have an “energy” to it, I decided diagonal lines should guide the shape of the massing of the building. Part of the rules in the design were that the design had toincorporate specific spaces within the building. To accomplish this, the design changed overtime. Research into sustainable building practices led me to Parkview Green in Beijing, whichhelped to bring the design full circle.

My design was chosen as a finalist in the competition and I was given the amazing opportunity of presenting the design to the Canadian Western Bank board in Edmonton, Alberta.
