Heavenly Father: Grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Help us to lead lives worthy of the vocations to which we have been called, and of the ideals to which we are committed. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen

Lea’s Place
On Thur, Fri, & Sat, we rang the bell for a total of 24 hours. The ding-a-lingers were: George & Kitty Goodloe, Jay Ambler, John Bates, Butch Shadwell, Charlie Bender & wife Wanda, Al Russ, Carl Krouch, Joe Overby, Bill Montgomery, James Lee & wife Mary Ellen, and myself. It was a lot of fun, and moving to see how many people responded so generously. Corky Borders
Lea’s Place is a volunteer center where The Dept. Of Children & Families take children who have been removed from abusive/neglectful situations or have been abandoned.
Amanda Ludy, President of the UNF Circle K club spoke of their upcoming “Backpack Drive” in the spring semester. They are now starting to collect old & new backpacks, nonperishable food, clothing, shoes, car seats, or hygiene products. Please bring your donated items each week to the meetings. Butch Shadwell is in charge of collection.
Lea’s Place Volunteer Program is in need of volunteers to sit with detained children, supervise court ordered family visits, provide office support, and assist private investigators.
Contact Katy Suber at 904-360-7091.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARYCarol & Manny Wallace 12/26
The first Kiwanis club was organized in Detroit, Michigan. The group received a charter from the state of Michigan on January 21, 1915, and this is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis.
The first clubs were organized to promote the exchange of business among the members. However, even before the Detroit club received its state charter, the members were distributing Christmas baskets to the poor. A lively debate ensued between those who supported community service as the Kiwanis mission and those who supported the exchange of business. By 1919, the service advocates won the debate.
