Sacramento waives fees on affordable housing projects; how much will it cost?
Sacramento Bee
Sacramento City Council voted Tuesday to stop charging most city-imposed fees to devel-opers who build new affordable housing.
Starting Dec. 30, developers and nonprofits that build new affordable apartment units and single-family homes will no longer need to pay city fees that go toward services like infrastruc-ture, parks, water and sewer, a city staff report said.

Is winter coming for Southern California's housing market? Sales are falling and price cuts are more common
LA Times
A chill is settling over the once white-hot Southern California housing market.
Listings are up. Sales are falling. Price reductions are becoming more common.
The latest evidence came Tuesday when CoreLogic released its monthly market report. Sales across the region plummeted nearly 18% in September compared with a year earlier, the largest drop in almost eight years. The median home price in the six-county region rose 3.6% to $523,000, the smallest rise in more than three years.

It was the lowest number of sales for a September since just before the Great Recession when 2,152 sold in September 2007. Also, last month's me- dian home price dropped to $575,000 - the first decrease since Jan-uary - after hitting an all-time high of $583,000 in August.

Geotechnical Investigation: Deal or Dud?
This month’s featured article (on page 7) from Walt Keaveny (the Risk Manager, Underwriting Manager and Principal Engineer for 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty) is focused on geotechnical investigations. In most cases, building homes without a geotechnical investigation is like being blind-folded and swinging at a piñata. You can’t see what you’re doing and hope for the best. Learn the benefits of a geotechnical investigation and when one is needed. Please visit Walt’s Corner to read the full article.
