Objective

1. The BcB programme aims to develop bicultural talents who are passionate about learning the Chinese culture and language.

2. This programme stretches the potential of a student who is proficient in both languages and allows them to appreciate the Chinese culture in greater depth.

Rationale

1.Provide High-Ability Learners (HALs) in the school with learning experiences at an appropriate level of challenge.

2.Ensure that the curriculum for HALs is aligned with, and extends the core/regular classroom curriculum.

Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM)

The Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) is widely implemented as an enrichment program used with academically gifted and talented students and an enrichment approach for all schools interested in high-end learning and developing the strengths and talents of all students.

(Renzulli, 1977; Renzulli & Reis, 1985, 1997)

Focuses on enrichment through the use of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences that are constructed around students' interests, learning styles, and preferred modes of expression.

Why is BcB offered in SKGPSThe 4-year programme is designed to develop a core group of pupils in Primary 3 to Primary 6 who are effectively bilingual and bicultural. This spiral design curriculum at the primary school level ensures continuity at the secondary and pre-university levels at institutions that offer bicultural programmes. Lessons and activities are geared towards equipping pupils with a comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture, history, literature and the arts.

P3 & P4 Higher Chinese Language

The Higher Chinese lessons focus on writing skills and cross-cultural perspectives. Designed to take students to new levels of creative expression and critical analysis, while strengthening the fundamentals of formal writing and oral presentation.

New Media ReportingObjectives of course:To hone oratorical and communication skills through media reporting;To equip pupils with mass communication skills in script writing, interviewing and reporting; andTo build the pupils’ confidence in self-expressions

At the end of the programme, pupils will be able to:demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of media reports;demonstrate competency on public speaking skills and writing of script and interview questions through hands-on activities and media reporting project on a theme (i.e. Racial Harmony Day) 23

30% of the cost of the activities will be subsidized by the school70% of the cost are payable by the pupil’s Edusave Fund or Cash.
