Sponsorship Information

We design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style racecars against othercolleges from around the world. The FSAE set of rules is in place to test our engineeringskills and creativity. During the competition the vehicles are judged in four differentcategories: static inspection, engineering design, solo performance trials, and high-performance track endurance. We compete in the Formula SAE Lincoln competition inJune each year in Lincoln, NE.

Berkeley Formula Racing (BFR) isentirely run and managed by a group of40 students at UC Berkeley. Memberscome from all grade levels and fields ofstudy, from mechanical engineering andcomputer science to economics andbusiness administration, each unitedbehind our shared passion for STEMeducation, teamwork and motorsports.

Using a blank sheet of paper, design for the carbegins each July. We use industry-leading designsoftware like Solidworks CAD and Ansys CFD toconstruct a virtual model of our car. After numerousdesign revisions, the model is finalized and blueprintsare created. With help from local professionals, wemachine, weld and assemble all 500 uniquecomponents on our car, but the majority of themanufacturing is done by our members in-house. Weuse advanced materials for a number of componentson our car such as our carbon composite body andaerodynamics.

After two months of manufacturing, we begin our testing phase. We visit local tracksto validate our design and performance specs as well as tune our car for competition.We are constantly improving our car as we find problems and hone our performanceuntil it is ready for our competition.

Come, June, we pack up our trailer and drive out to Lincoln, NE for the annualFormula SAE Lincoln event where we compete against 80 other universities from aroundthe world.
