INTRODUCTION

I, Rachael Cheong Kah Yen as the mayor of the ‘’X’’ Town, will have to come up

with a new layout of the new town because the ‘’X’’ town is no longer livable for human

as it is been polluted.

This is a final project for the ENBE subject. The objectives of this project is to

Show symbolic relationship of the elements of the natural and built environment and

discover by it’s basic unit, form and function. This project is separated into individual and

group work.

For the Individual component, my task is to investigate, understand and collect

data about the content which relates to ‘’town‘’ and ‘’the build environment’’ and then

come up with a report about my own future town and as well as a 2 - 3 minutes of video

for a brief introduction of my future town

As for the group component, our task is to form a group of 5 - 6 members. We are

then required to make a model of the selected town from one of the member which

chosen and decided by the tutorial group lecturer. Besides, we are also required to

produce a maximum of 3 presentation board to explain further about the selected town.

My Group had decided to choose the theme, a floating n water city. We are to

propose a new future town that should be within 20 – 40 km2. The population for the town

should be within 15,000 – 300,000 and we should give our own future town a new name.

THE FUTURE TOWN (SEUTHOPOLIS)

Global warming and climate change issues are perhaps the greatest threat

to this planet. It is caused by rapid deforestation resulting to melt ice tops and glaciers.

If it continues with the same speed, most of the coastal areas will be covered in water in

the coming few years. It will lead to less inhabitable area and people will have to live,

cramped in a limited area.

However, floating and under water structures had bring up a hope for the future.

The ‘Underwater City’ in Bulgaria is a similar revolutionary town that is ‘built in the

middle of a lake, instead of an island, but in fact it was below water level. The city isn’t

completely under water, it has a huge dam (1,377 feet in diameter and 65 in height)

surrounding the city, keeping the water away from the living area that can be accessed

only through water transportation. The underwater city is actually the ancient city of

Seuthopolis, discovered in 1948, which then came into real life, after a dam was knock

down in Bulgaria, to become one of the most stunning under water projects ever.

THE NEW ‘’ X ’’ TOWN ‘’ THE DIRECTION ‘’

INTRODUCTION

I, Rachael Cheong Kah Yen as the mayor of the ‘’X’’ Town, I had decided to come

up with a new town for my people, It’s called ‘’ The Direction’’ because the The ‘’X’’ town

is no longer livable for human as it is highly polluted. Therefore, I had to propose a town

that full fill the needs of my people and solve the problems that had faced in previous

town planning. In proposal of this town will include zoning of the town such as

government district, commercial, Business, recreational area, education, religious and

culture areas, hospitals, industrial, agriculture and as well as residential area.

On the other hand, my town shall have preparation to overcome following

circumstances such as diseases control, food distribution, riot control and security issues.

Besides, my town would have a better and efficient transportation system and

networking. In addition, Infrastructure, waste management, sustainable initiative and

climate change consideration.

WAYS TO SOLVE THE MAJOR PROBLEMS THAT MY FUTURE TOWN MIGHT

FACED.

My town will located at the west coast of selangor, Malaysia. The reason why I

build here I because Malaysia faces a two monsoon wind season during the late may to

September, which known as the southwest monsoon. The second monsoon is known as

the Northeast monsoon during march and october. Besides, The site of my town is

located near the equator. Therefore, the climate is categorized as equatorial, the whether

would be hot and humid throughout the year. (Average temperature around 80.6 oF). The

average rainfall is 250 centimeters in a year

Statistic of ocean heat level

Based on my research I had found that climate change is likely to have quite a

major effect on Malaysia, as it increases the sea levels and rainfall resulting the high rate

of flooding and leading to droughts. The diagram below shows the statistic of the sea

water level through out the world each decades.

ENBE | FINAL PROJECT | PART A – REPORT | THE BETTER LIVABLE TOWN REPRESENTATION

RACHAEL CHEONG KAH YEN | 0319926 | FNBE AUG 2014 | TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY

The climate change is also cause by improper town planning that leads to a

serious stage of deforestration, resulting a global warming of motherland-Earth. In result,

this affect the ice berg at atlantic to melt and increasing of sea water level and scientist

investigate that Malaysia will sink in the ocean and became one of the most horrible

disaster in 2080. Therefore, My town has to plant more vegetation along the streets and

encourage the people to have a garden roof on their house.

Tsunami is one of the major concern for my future town. So I decided to build a

pneumatic breakwater system, It’s a hollow steel pylons buried in the seafloor that

telescope when air is pumped in. Once they popped above the surface, the pylons

reduced the size of the waves by half.

Conclusion, In order to minimize the risk of my citizen to face the natural disaster

in future, on the other hand my town is free of earthquakes, land slides and volcano

eruptions. Therefore, the floating on water town is my choice to build a better livable

town.

ZONING

Port and Shipping Section

Located surround the diameter of the town, The port and shipping section will be one of the income and benefits to the town’s economical. Industrial Area

The industrial area is located far away from the residential area and as well as the hub

because it might pollute the air and the sound. Forest and Recreational Park.

This mainly build infront of industrial area to block the dusty air and reduce the noise away from the residential area.

Energy Resources

This is where all the solar panel and wind turbin located at, and the area is build near the port and shipping section as that area receive most wind and sunlight.

Culture and religious

Malaysia is a beautiful country as it have many cultures and religious. This space is

created near the forest for a better environment. Medical center and security

Both of this area is important for the people and therefore its build near the hub where everyone can access easily. Education and Residential Area

Both of this Area are just right beside to each other as this make the people to send their kids to school easily and more convinient.

Tourism Area

This is located near to the sea and therefore it is build into a beach side.

Lake

It is a manmade lake located at the hub to balance of the building around and it actually

supply clean water for the people as it has a water filter underneath it.

ENHANCEMENT OF MY TOWN ‘’ THE DIRECTION ‘’

TRANSPORTATION

A bad transportation system may bring a harmful impact to the environmental

systems. From one side, Transportation is a dominant source of emission of most

pollutants and their multiple impacts on the environment.

Therefore, for my future town I decided to build a Magnetic Levitation Transport

(maglev), is a revolutionary form of railway transport. It uses magnetic forces to make the

vehicles hover above the track instead of running along them, result in reducing the

friction between the two and in fact it the allows a much faster speeds to be attained than

are safely managable on any other form of ground based public transport.

Besides, my town would provide a better Transportation planning. The road is

mainly catagorized into 5 lanes, there will be two lanes specialized for cyclist in between

the pedesterian walkways. This is mainly for the cyclist to travel safely instead of cycling

in the crowd of vehincles that may causes accidents to happen. As for the middle lane

between the bicycle path, there is the lane which is mainly for the vehincles.

RACHAEL CHEONG KAH YEN | 0319926 | FNBE AUG 2014 | TAYLOR’S UNIVERSITY

Besides public transportation there is also the subway underneath the town along

the diametter of the town. The number of passengers using the train is increasing. Thus, I

would like to accelerate this growth and increase the number of trains to eventually in six

sprinters per hour on the busiest routes. Expansion of the railway network, better travel

information and Internet in the train should make the train more attractive as an

alternative to the car.

TOURISM

The Economic and social factors are closely interrelated, as the economy can

provide the infrastructure and investment required for human development. Consequently

the significance of tourism for people can by how positively economic and social factors

impact on each other. As society becomes more mobile and prosperous tourism will

become increasingly significant for people.

In my town, there isnt’t any interesting and attractive place like madives or the

greatest wall from china, but I would like to came up with a town that is known as the

paradise of food. Due to its richnest of culture in malaysia, a food street full of diff

culture’s food can be as an attraction interesting place to the tourists. Besides, t the

central of the hub of my town will be having a undulating tall building that is functional to

be a luxurious hotel and a extroadinary comercial tower.

CONCLUSION

What have I learned through out this proposal of town is that a town is proper

zoning of a town, efficient transportation, fully equip with infrastructure, utility, services

and sustainable initiative. As a mayor of the town, developing the town to make it fully

ulitties with those services and as a mayor I need to concern about transportation

problem, climate changes and pollution that might effect my people. The most important

element, a town need to have some greenery area to have a healthier, happy and

peaceful atmosphere to have a good quality of township.

Different characteristic of the natural environment have been explore by me when

preparing this proposal such as topography, landscape, space, buildings and

infrastructure. On the other hand, I have learn the skill of presenting my ideas using

different media, tools and technique.
