JYF Aged Bulls Our bulls are not pushed to maximize yearling data. Instead, they are managed to grow out over winter, grassed in summer, and fed hay and range pellets on return to the yard. There is no barley in their ration. We try to get the bulls ready for multiple years in the breeding pasture. We have made every effort to provide you, our customer, with the best bull for your money. We calve on the range, in April and May. This provides a 2 year old bull that will cover more cows and save you money. We also have a fall program where we calve from Sept 1 to Oct 15. These bulls are basically big January yearlings and provide another age option. No bulls are sold before the sale so you’re picking from the entire calf crop. Due to their age, these bulls have gone through extra rounds of culling to ensure that they are as problem free as possible. The JYF aged bulls are designed with you in mind. It is extremely important to us that you get the best bull to meet your requirements. We will assist in any way we can, including at the auction. If you are not totally satisfi ed with your selection, you will not own him.

Herd Health Program

We have been chute scoring docility at weaning since the system came out. We have found it useful, but that it did not adequately describe a bull’s demeanor at sale time.Bulls change as they get older and their testosterone levels increase. We see differences when working them to measure Yearling data, as well as sale preparation activities like picturing and video. In an effort to better describe a bull’s disposition before they fi nd out what they are made for; we have come up with the JYF Management Rating. We have scored them multiple times, on our own and talked about the scores together. We assure you that we have taken every opportunity along the way to weed out a potential problem bull. This rating is simply another way to differentiate one bull from another.

1. Pet able without halter breaking2. Easily handled no matter the situation3. Easy going. Very easily halter broke4. Quieter than average, but slightly restless and may be stubborn during processing5. Typical temperament. Manageable but nervous and impatient. Exits chute briskly6. Restless and always moving away in the pen7. Easily managed with other cattle, not so easily alone.8. Heads up with a big fl ight zone. Seems to be the fi rst to run9. May exhibit attack behavior when handled alone10. Always very aggressive, pronounced attack behavior

Prior to breeding - All cows and bulls are vaccinated with modifi ed-live vaccine for: IBR, BVD (types 1 &2) PI3, BRSV.

Calves are vaccinated with modifi ed-live vaccine for: IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia.

Bulls, cows and calves are treated for internal and external parasites.

Prior to weaning – All calves vaccinated (boostered) with modifi ed-live vaccines for: IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia.

Bulls, cows and calves treated with pour-on parasite control.

Prior to Sale - All bulls are semen tested and given the fi rst treatment of Fusogard .

PARTIES OF GUARANTEE: All guarantees are between the buyer and the seller.

ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATION: The Canadian Limousin Association shall not be responsible for any guarantees given by a seller of Limousin cattle.

BULL BREEDING GUIDELINES: All bulls offered for sale as breeding bulls, except calves at side, must be guaranteed breeders.

Should any bull fi fteen months of age or over fail to prove a natural breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders and free of any venereal disease, the buyer shall report in writing to the seller and provide a report of a complete exami-nation by a qualifi ed veterinarian. This notifi cation shall be provided to the seller no later than four (4) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fi fteen (15) months of age, whichever is later. The buyer shall return the bull to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller shall have the op-portunity to have the bull examined by a veterinarian of his choice. In the instance of a fertility re-test by the seller the bull must weigh the same or more than his posted adjusted 365-day weight. If the bull falls short of this weight then he must be reconditioned to meet the weight and then be re-tested. The seller will then have 45 days to prove this bull a breeder. If this bull proves to be a satisfactory breeder the bull shall be returned to the buyer.

In the event the seller fails to prove the bull a satisfactory breeder the buyer has the option to either accept a replacement F.O.B. the seller’s ranch or a refund of the actual purchase price. No incidental expenses such as feed, veterinary charges, interest, etc. will be charged by either party. In no event shall the seller be responsi-ble for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

FEMALE BREEDING GUIDELINES: Females represented as being “pregnancy tested safe in calf” are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows and heifers represented as “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf; but these, as well as open heifers selling as individual lots, are guaranteed to be breeders.

In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder after having been bred natu-rally to a bull known to be a breeder and after having been examined by a qualifi ed veterinarian, the matter must be reported in writing and the veterinarian’s report should be provided normally no later than six (6) months after the sale date or prior to the heifer attaining eighteen (18) months of age. Assuming that the female is returned to the seller in adequate body condition, the seller shall have seventy (70) days following the date that the female was returned to the seller in which to prove such female a breeder.

The seller may use any registered Limousin bull available to him/her, in which case the said female will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his/her expense.

Should the seller fail to prove the female a breeder, the buyer has the option to either accept a replacement F.O.B. to seller’s ranch, or a refund of the actual purchase price. No incidental expenses such as feed, veterinary charges, interest, etc. will be charged by either party, and in no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. In the event the buyer of an “OPEN” heifer fi nds that she was in fact in calf on sale day, he/she may return the heifer to the seller and at his option receive a satisfactory replacement or a refund of the purchase price. In the event a female sold as being safe in calf does not calve to the published and/or announced breeding date(s), the buyer, after notifying the seller in writing, may return the female and receive an immediate full refund of the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE: No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver a live calf, nor that she will carry the calf full term. In cases where the animal is subjected to any growth hormonal treatment, embryo transfer, or surgical reproduction technique after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

SUCKLING CALVES GUIDELINE: No guarantee of any kind applies to suckling calves less than six (6) months of age sold with their dam.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase shall constitute a separate transac-tion and the rights and obligations of these two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of the sale.

ARBITRATION: In the event of a dispute, the purchaser and seller may ask the Canadian Limousin Association to arbitrate the matter. The Arbitration Board shall be conducted under the rules of arbitration wherein the purchaser and seller will each appoint one person to the Board and the Canadian Limousin Association will appoint a Chairman. Each party will have one vote, and the decision of the majority of the Board being binding on both the seller and the purchaser.

Expenses of the arbitration will be at the sole discretion of the Chairman. Under no circumstances will the seller beliable for more than the purchase price of the animal.

The University of Minnesota, Rosemont, recently completed a feed effi ciency trial comparing Wulf Cattle Limousin-Jersey Beef BuildersSM to Jersey steers. The feedlot performance comparison was a joint feed trial conducted with Wulf Cattle of Morris, Minnesota, as a component of the innovative Breeding To FeedingSM Dairy Beef program. The steers were fed at the UM, Rosemont facility. Feed intake was monitored with a Calan Gates feeding system for accurate feed effi ciency data.The steers were divided into four groups. Management and feeding of all the steers was the same from birth through trial completion with one exception. Zilmax® was fed to two groups 30 days pre-harvest. The four groups are identifi ed as follows:

* Straight Jersey, No Zilmax* Beef BuildersSM (LMxJE), No Zilmax* Straight Jersey, Zilmax* Beef BuildersSM (LMxJE), Zilmax

The No Zilmax Beef Builder (LMxJE) steers had improved feed to gain (FTG), average daily gain (ADG), heavier hot carcass weights and larger ribeyes. The steers fed Zilmax performed slightly better in the feedlot. However, the Zilmax-fed steers’ quality grades declined, resulting in more USDA Select carcasses. (See Table 1)

Further comparison showed signifi cant percentile changes as a result of the genetic infl uence and breed complementarity versus Zilmax. (See Table 2)

In conclusion, the study indicated genetic infl uence had a greater effect than Zilmax. Further, the genetic improvements in both quality and yield grades qualifi ed the carcasses for value-added premiums when harvested May 17, 2013, at Tyson Foods, Dakota City, Nebraska.
