Idolatry MattersThe first commandment that God gave to His people is, I am the LORD

your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of

slavery. You shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20.2-3).

While God was graciously and mercifully giving these words to Moses,the Israelites (Gods people) were at the base of the mountain using their

time, energy, and resources to deny Gods existence and Gods saving

work in their lives.

In His infinite wisdom, God knew the brokenness of the human heart and

its inclination to find peace, hope, joy, and security in everything and

anything but Him. However, in His infinite grace He came to you in the

person and work of Jesus Christ to set your heart back on the track of

loving Him above all else.

Idolatry matters because loving anything more than God replaces Godcompletely. In Sin, God will never be first in our lives. But praise be to

God alone because while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

(Romans 5.8).
