LET ME HELP YOU

JUST A REMINDER:

Thank you for attending the Class! My goal is to provide you with the best customer service in

guiding you to choose the Essential Oils that you would like to order.

I want to be here for your questions, but I do not want to be like that annoying sales person in

the department store that keeps coming over to you every seven minutes asking you if there is

anything I can help you find.

There are more than 150 products to choose from – that can be quite overwhelming!

The best thing that I can recommend for you to do is to write down on a piece of paper five

issues for which you or your loved ones would like to find natural support.

If you can think of more than five, that’s fine too.

These are five issues, not necessarily five Essential Oil products that you would need to

purchase. There may even be a single oil that will cover all five of the issues you wrote down!

Send me the list of those five through email or Facebook.

I will give you back a list of oils that can help give you that natural support you’re looking for.

You can decide how many you would like to order at this time, and what oil may be on your next

purchase. So, let me help you by giving you the specialized treatment or let me know that you

will decide about the oils on your own.

I look forward to helping you if you need me too!

OIL SAFETY

Medical Expert, Dr. David K. Hill, D.C.

“Among the greatest attributes of essential oils is that their safety and benefits extend to all

members of the family—no one is excluded, even young children and infants. Because of their

potency, you will find that essential oils are capable of offering immediate benefits and relief to

your child. For the same reason, a very low dose is all that is needed to induce powerful

therapeutic effects.

“Topical application is perhaps the most controlled method for administering essential oils to

children because it allows for treatment of targeted concerns. Some oils can be sensitive to the

skin and should be diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil before applying topically.

“Another effective mode of administration is diffusion, which is simple to integrate into your

family’s health regimen. Consistent use of essential oils is a safe yet effective method for your

family’s health.”

Dr. David Hill

Topical application is one of the ways you can experience the benefits of essential oils. This

form of application is unique because it allows for localized effects in the area of the application

in addition to providing whole body support. Additionally, you can use essential oils topically

when you want an easy way to target specific areas on your body.

DILUTION BASICS

Dilution is a process in which essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil—a pure vegetable oil that

helps “carry” the essential oil onto the skin. There are many benefits to dilution, including

increasing the surface area of absorption, enhancing absorption through dry skin, and

preventing sensitivity responses. One of the best carrier oils of choice is Fractionated Coconut

Oil due to its long shelf life and lightweight texture.

Page 8: Bethany Wallin NTP

7

CLASSIFICATIONS OF OILS FOR TOPICAL USE

Neat: Oils categorized as “neat” can be applied topically without dilution because of their

exceptionally mild chemistry. Frankincense, Lavender, Melaleuca, Melissa, and Sandalwood are

good examples of “neat” essential oils. Dilute: Oils in this category have potent chemistry and

should be diluted with a carrier oil before topical application in every case. “Dilute” oils include

Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove, Oregano, and Thyme. Sensitive: “Sensitive” oils are those that

should be diluted before use on young or sensitive skin. Bergamot, Black Pepper, Eucalyptus,

Ginger, and Peppermint are examples of “sensitive” oils.

APPLICATION SAFETY

Although unusual, occasionally it is possible to have a sensitivity response to an essential oil.

This occurs when there is heightened reactivity of an essential oil that may result in an

unwanted response in the body or on the skin. Awareness of your body and how it reacts to

different essential oils, amounts applied, and location applications can help minimize risk and

ensure safe usage.

Essential Safety Tips:

Citrus oils contain a unique category of photosensitive compounds called furocoumarins, so

it is important to avoid exposure to sunlight, sunlamps, or other sources of UV light for up to

12 hours after topical application of these oils

More is not always better! Essential oils are very potent, so a little goes a long way. Start

with 1–2 drops and then increase the dosage as necessary.

Dilute, dilute, dilute! Dilution in no way diminishes the efficacy of essential oils and offers

many benefits that can enhance your application experience.

Conduct a simple sensitivity test when trying a new oil by applying a small amount of

essential oil to an inconspicuous area. Check the spot each hour for several hours to

ensure no sensitivity has occurred.

Other Effective Methods of Topical Application:

Add a few drops of oil to a warm bath.

Make a hot or cold compress by soaking a towel or cloth in water, adding essential oils, and

then applying to the desired area.

Page 9: Bethany Wallin NTP

8

Add oil to a lotion or moisturizer and then apply to the skin Mix with water and use as a

mouth and throat rinse.

FACE

Use essential oil as part of your regular skincare regimen to beautify the skin and promote a

clear, healthy looking complexion.

ROOF OF THE MOUTH (SOFT PALATE)/BASE OF THE SKULL

Applying oils to these areas is an excellent way to help transform your mood and balance your

emotions.

NECK/FOREHEAD/TEMPLES

These areas are good to target if you have tension in the head or neck.

CHEST

Rubbing oils onto the chest promotes a healthy respiratory tract and helps maintain clear

breathing.

ABDOMEN

Application of essential oils, especially over major digestive organs, supports healthy function

and can help alleviate occasional digestive discomforts.

LIVER

Apply essential oils over the liver in conjunction with a cleanse protocol or to support healthy

function of the body’s cleansing organs.

ARMS/LEGS/BACK

Massage onto the arms, wrists, legs, feet, or back to soothe tired, achy muscles and joints and

to promote healthy circulation.

BOTTOMS OF FEET

The feet have large pores that rapidly absorb essential oils, making this an ideal application site

for generalized effect. Apply and massage in 2–4 drops of essential oil.

ESSENTIAL OILS FOR YOUR MONTHLY CYCLE If you are a woman between the ages of twelve and fifty, you probably have to deal with the ups and downs of YOUR MONTHLY CYCLE. In fact, the average woman in Western culture will have to deal with 450 of these cycles throughout her lifetime! For centuries, women have devised various ways of dealing with the discomforts and emotional turbulence that accompany their monthly cycles. These solutions range from making use of natural herbs to consuming over-the-counter (and even prescription) medications. In this class, we will look at many Essential Oil solutions for common menstrual cycle issues. We’ll talk about what your hormones are doing during each week of your cycle, how this affects the way you feel, and ways you can use Essential Oils to alleviate physical and emotional discomforts. We’ll also share some Essential Oils that are superstars in this area, some of which you may have never considered for these issues. When we’re done, you’ll be ready for anything your cycle throws at you.

MONTHLY BLEND FOR WOMEN – CLARY CALM We will shortly be discussing the ins and outs of each week of your monthly cycle.

Page 17: Bethany Wallin NTP

16

But first . . . Every discussion about Essential Oils for your monthly cycle should start with the MONTHLY BLEND FOR WOMEN. This blend contains many Essential Oils that are soothing to the body as well as emotionally calming and balancing. It’s specifically designed to provide a soothing, calming effect during your menstrual cycle. It’s also cooling, so it can help when you’re feeling flushed. CLARY CALM smells floral, herbal, and coniferous. It contains Essential Oils of Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex. PRACTICAL USES • During your menstrual cycle, apply to abdomen to experience a soothing and calming massage. • During moments of heat, apply to the skin for a cooling, soothing effect. • Diffuse for a calming aroma that helps soothe heightened emotions. • Apply topically to help balance mood throughout the month. This blend is meant to be used topically. You can apply to the back of your neck, your temples, and/or the bottoms of your feet. It comes in a 10 ml roller bottle for easy, neat, topical application. For sensitive skin, dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil. NOTE: You may have noticed that this blend contains Bergamot, an Essential Oil that is usually referred to as “photosensitive.” Good news! The Bergamot used in this blend does NOT contain furanocoumarin, which is the compound typically responsible for such reactions, so sun sensitivity should not be an issue when using this blend topically. Given all its uses, CLARY CALM should definitely be in every woman’s arsenal of natural solutions!

WEEK 1: MENSTRUATION WEEK While CLARY CALM can help alleviate various discomforts experienced throughout your monthly cycle, it’s worth looking into what each week, or phase, entails; along with specific oils that can help support you during the various parts of your cycle. The more you know about what and why your body is doing and feeling the way it does, the better prepared you’ll be to figure out which oils and actions will best support you.

Page 18: Bethany Wallin NTP

17

Most people choose the FIRST DAY of their period as the mark of the beginning of a new cycle. Also called the menstrual or bleeding phase, this is the messy, inconvenient week that most of us wish we could avoid. It lasts from two to seven days and varies in heaviness of flow from person-to-person as well as day to day. HORMONE HAPPENINGS The estrogen and testosterone hormones in your body are at their lowest levels during this point in your cycle, which is what signals your uterus to shed its lining, otherwise known as your period. HOW YOU MIGHT FEEL Everybody is different, but during the week of your period, you might feel tired and have a very low level of energy. In addition, many women have to deal with abdominal cramps, nausea, headaches, and feelings of bloating and tenderness in their breasts and/or abdomen. If you don’t have the Monthly Blend for Women handy, try this roller bottle recipe if you experience abdominal cramps or discomfort: TUMMY SOOTHER ROLLER RECIPE • 3 drops Lavender Essential Oil • 3 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil • 3 drops Basil Essential Oil • 3 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil Place Essential Oils in a 10 ml roller bottle. Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil or carrier oil of your choice. Roll-on for relief!

WEEK 2: FOLLICULAR PHASE You can think of this portion of your cycle as “ovulation prep week.” The week between your period and ovulation is dedicated to ensuring that your egg matures; and to making you feel great and in the mood, both of which are necessary for couples wanting to take advantage of the whole purpose of ovulation: maximum baby-making potential. HORMONE HAPPENINGS Your estrogen and testosterone levels begin to climb and eventually reach their highest levels. This has a positive effect on mood. HOW YOU MIGHT FEEL

Page 19: Bethany Wallin NTP

18

Again, everybody experiences her cycle differently, but this is probably a great week! Most women feel more energetic during this phase. Most of the physical discomforts and emotional downers like irritability and sadness experienced during the premenstrual and menstrual phases have eased up quite a bit at this point. This is a great week to get things done and tackle difficult projects. Your libido will also probably start climbing.

WEEK 3: OVULATION WEEK It would be more accurate to say that you have an ovulation DAY rather than week, as it doesn’t take an entire week to ovulate. Therefore, OVULATION WEEK can be broken into two parts. During the first part of week three of your cycle, the egg reaches full maturity and is released. You’ll still be riding the energy high and might feel extra confident around ovulation time. Libido will be at its highest point for the month, which is perfect timing, baby-wise. A few days after ovulation, however, you might start to feel the very beginning of week four’s Premenstrual Stage. This is the second part of Ovulation Week. HORMONE HAPPENINGS Estrogen and testosterone levels dip around ovulation day, but then levels start to climb again. Progesterone levels, on the other hand, tend to increase all week. HOW YOU MIGHT FEEL Many women feel great around ovulation day. The high levels of energy and positive mood experienced during week two will probably continue for you around this time; however, some women feel cramping or pain during ovulation. A few days after ovulation, you might start to experience food cravings as well as a return to feeling tired, sluggish, and irritable as this week leads into the dreaded Premenstrual Week.

WEEK 4: PREMENSTRUAL WEEK Ugh! Week four is PREMENSTRUAL WEEK. Technically, the phase that starts after ovulation and spans the days until your next period is referred to as the Luteal Phase. If

Page 20: Bethany Wallin NTP

19

your egg is fertilized after ovulation, congratulations: you’re expecting! If fertilization does not occur, your body will prepare for your next Menstruation Week. HORMONE HAPPENINGS The decrease in estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone that happens this week causes your endometrium to break down and signals that it’s time to get ready to shed its lining soon. The low levels in estrogen also mean lower levels of serotonin, which can contribute to mood issues. HOW YOU MIGHT FEEL Hopefully, you are one of those lucky women who aren’t too affected by this fourth week of your cycle. If not, you might experience cramps, breast and abdomen tenderness, fatigue, headaches, bloating, skin flare-ups, tummy and bowel issues, cravings, and even sleeping problems. Emotionally, mood swings can mean feeling angry or irritable, sadness or oversensitivity (including crying), and anxious or ramped up nerves. Much of what we will address in this class will deal with the many ways that Essential Oils can support you during this fourth week of your cycle. If you’re feeling down in the dumps during PREMENSTRUAL WEEK; or, alternatively, so irritated you risk crabbing at everyone you encounter, try this blend: CALM AND UPLIFT BLEND • 2 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil • 3 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil • 3 drops Lime Essential Oil For a roller bottle: Add Essential Oils to a 10 ml roller bottle. Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil or carrier oil of your choice. For a diffuser blend: Half the number of drops and place in diffuser.

HEAD AND NECK TENSION HEAD AND NECK TENSION is something that affects many women throughout their monthly cycle. For many, head tension crops up during their Premenstrual Week. Other women know to expect this discomfort during their Menstrual Week, and still others find that it hits around ovulation.

Page 21: Bethany Wallin NTP

20

Regardless of timing, head and neck tension can make getting through the day difficult and stressful. The following Essential Oils can help soothe head and neck tension on their own or when blended together: • Lavender • Frankincense • Basil • Clary Sage • Peppermint • Cedarwood • Marjoram PASTTENSE, THE TENSION BLEND is of special note here. Its fresh, cooling, minty aroma is soothing to the mind and body and can help wash away tension and stress that contribute to physical discomfort. PAST TENSE contains Wintergreen, Frankincense, Lavender, Marjoram, Cilantro, Basil, Rosemary, and Roman Chamomile. This blend can be applied topically to the temples, neck, shoulders, or wherever tension is felt. It comes in a 10 ml roller bottle, ready to swipe on, but it can also be diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or your favorite carrier oil) to minimize skin sensitivity. PRACTICAL USES • Massage into shoulders, neck, and back for a cooling, soothing sensation. • Add to temples and back of neck before taking a test or presenting in public. • Apply to the wrists while traveling to help calm emotions. Often, head and neck tension is the result of stress on your body or mind. The soothing, relaxing combination of bath salts, Essential Oils, and a warm bath can often ease stress and tension. It’s quick and easy to mix up a single portion, but you can also make a larger stock blend to have on hand in your bathroom cupboard, ready to use whenever you need it. SOOTHING BATH SALT RECIPE • 1 c. Salts (you can use Epsom Salt, Pink Himalayan Salt, Dead Sea Salt, etc.) • 1 tbsp. Coconut Oil (or carrier of your choice) • 3 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil • 2 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil • 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil Mix Carrier Oil and Essential Oils. Then add oil mixture to bath salts and mix thoroughly. Pour into warm bathwater and stir up. Feel your stress and tension melt away!

FEELING DOWN Not all women spend parts of their monthly cycle crying, but the stereotype of the woman who bursts into tears at the slightest offense during Premenstrual Week comes from the biological fact that the lower levels of estrogen found during this phase also mean lower levels of serotonin. Serotonin is one of those “feel-good” chemicals produced in the body, so it’s easy to see why many women FEEL SAD, BLUE, OR DOWN, or even more sensitive than usual during this part of their cycle. The good news is there are many, many Essential Oils and blends that can help uplift mood. You’ll be sure to find several go-to oils for when you’re experiencing hurt, sad, or low feelings. Citrus Oils are some of the best for uplifting mood. They are light, cheerful, and fresh. In addition, they also offer immune-boosting benefits, which can help you feel tiptop physically as well. There are many Citrus Oils to choose from, such as Lemon, Wild Orange, Bergamot, Tangerine, Grapefruit, Lime, and Green Mandarin Essential Oils. Citrus-heavy blends include MOTIVATE, ELEVATION, and CITRUS BLISS. Citrus Oils can be used aromatically or topically (CAUTION: Many Citrus Oils are phototoxic, so avoid sun or UV exposure after applying) and some can be used internally (CAUTION: Check your bottle for nutritional facts to determine whether or not the oil is suitable for internal use). Putting a drop or two of Lemon, Wild Orange, Tangerine, or Grapefruit Essential Oils in your water can give your emotions a much-needed boost during certain times of the month. Citruses aren’t the only oils that can help when you’re feeling down due to the hormones that come with your monthly cycle. Here are some others you might want to check out: CONSOLE, THE COMFORTING BLEND, contains Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Labdanum, Amyris, Sandalwood, Rose, and Osthmanthus. This blend promotes feelings of contentment and hope and comforts you when you feel overwhelming sadness. The Floral and Tree Oils found in this blend have soothing, calming, and relaxing properties to help you manage these emotions. PRACTICAL USES • Diffuse when feeling down to comfort the soul and evoke feelings of hope. • Mix with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply over the heart morning and night as a reminder to be patient and to think positive thoughts. • Apply one or two drops to a shirt collar or scarf and smell throughout the day to ward off feelings of sadness.

Page 23: Bethany Wallin NTP

22

The sweet-smelling ELEVATION, THE JOYFUL BLEND, is uplifting, refreshing, and energizing to mood. It can help create a positive atmosphere when diffused, or you can dilute it with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply to the wrists or back of the neck. This blend contains Lavandin, Tangerine, Lavender, Amyris, Clary Sage, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang, Ho Wood, Osmanthus, Lemon Myrtle, and Melissa Essential Oils and can help you feel confident, happy, and in control. PRACTICAL USES • Diffuse to promote feelings of self-worth while also helping to lessen restless feelings. • Diffuse in the mornings to create a positive and energized mood. • Rub over your heart, temples, or wrists to elevate mood and promote vitality. • After a long, stressful day, take a bath with Epsom salts and a few drops of Joyful Blend to help lessen feelings of stress. CAUTION: Contains Citrus Oils. Avoid exposure to the sun or UV rays for at least 12 hours after topical application.

IRRITABILITY ISSUES The lack of serotonin that can exasperate feelings of sadness can also make you more likely to feel IRRITABLE, angry, and/or offended at certain times during your monthly cycle. Some women find themselves losing patience with themselves and others due to fluctuating hormone levels. The Citrus Oils already recommended for promoting positive mood can be helpful for issues of irritability as well. Oils that come from trees and roots, and those that are considered emotionally grounding can help calm bad moods as well. Applying BALANCE GROUNDING BLEND to the bottoms of the feet is a great way to start out any day, especially days when you know you may be more easily irritated. This blend is made up of Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus. It helps promote feelings of tranquility, calmness, emotional balance, and well-being throughout the day. PRACTICAL USES • For a grounding experience, place one or two drops in the palms of your hands and breathe in deeply. • Begin your morning by putting a few drops on the bottoms of your feet to lessen stress throughout the day. • Use while meditating or practicing stretching exercises. • Add to Epsom salts for a comforting bath. • Apply to your wrists or neck to help ease anxious feelings. • Diffuse in the car during your morning commute to create a calm state of mind.

Page 24: Bethany Wallin NTP

23

FORGIVE, THE RENEWING BLEND, can help when you are experiencing feelings of anger, bitterness, and resentment. This blend can help you forgive when you feel wronged by others and renew yourself and your emotions. FORGIVE combines Spruce, Bergamot, Juniper Berry, Myrrh, Arborvitae, Nootka, Thyme, and Citronella Oils. Its fresh, woodsy aroma will encourage feelings of understanding, contentment, and patience. PRACTICAL USES • Diffuse when meditating to help release harboring feelings of anger and guilt. • Dilute with carrier oil and apply to pulse points and heart throughout the day to feel grounded and content. • Have on hand throughout the day to counteract negative emotions that may arise from undesirable situations. CRABBY MCCRABBERS BLEND • 2 drops BALANCE • 2 drops FORGIVE • 4 drops of your favorite Citrus (or a combo of your favorite Citrus Oils) For a roller bottle: Add Essential Oils to a 10 ml roller bottle. Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil or carrier oil of your choice. For a diffuser blend: Half the number of drops and place in diffuser.

LOW ENERGY During weeks four (Premenstrual Week) and one (Menstruation Week) ENERGY is often at its LOWEST. You might feel sluggish, tired, or even fatigued. It’s important to listen to your body and rest as needed, but many of us still have jobs to go to, families to take care of, and already-planned events we’re responsible for or just want to attend. Fortunately, there are many Essential Oils that can help you feel more energetic. PEPPERMINT Essential Oil is one of the most energizing Essential Oils around. It invigorates your senses and stimulates the mind. Its fresh, minty aroma can help perk you up and boost energy levels. It can be used topically, aromatically, or internally, and is a pick-me-up Rock Star when combined with Wild Orange or Lemon. PEPPERMINT Essential Oil is a very versatile oil and helps support the digestive system, soothes head and neck tension, and cools the body—all of which are other issues you may face during your monthly cycle. PRACTICAL USES

Page 25: Bethany Wallin NTP

24

• Diffuse when feeling fatigued or low on energy. • Place one drop in the palm of your hand with one drop Wild Orange and inhale for a mid-day pick-me-up. • Dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply topically to relieve feelings of tension and stress. • Inhale for a non-stimulant, invigorating pick-me-up on long drives. • Add to shampoo or conditioner for an invigorating hair and scalp massage. • Add two to three drops to your favorite smoothie recipe for a refreshing twist. ENERGIZE DIFFUSER BLEND • 1 drop Peppermint Essential Oil • 2 drops Wild Orange Essential Oil • 2 drops Lemon Essential Oil For a roller bottle: Add Essential Oils to a 10 ml roller bottle. Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil or carrier oil of your choice. For a diffuser blend: Half the number of drops and place in diffuser. Another thing you can do to keep your energy levels up is to get on a supplement routine and make sure you stick to it throughout the month. The LIFELONG VITALITY PACK consists of three daily supplements, and one of the best benefits of this trio is increased energy! The vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and Essential Oils that are included in this pack are the basic wellness building blocks for optimal energy and longevity. When your cells, tissues, organs, and systems are working at full capacity, you’ll have more energy, even during THAT time of the month! The three daily supplements—the Food Nutrient Complex, Cellular Vitality Complex, and Essential Oil Omega Complex—were created to work together daily as a team. When you use them consistently, you’ll be sure to get the basics your body needs to maintain optimal energy levels throughout the month. Other energizing and/or invigorating Essential Oils include: • Clove • CITRUS BLISS • Cypress • Lemon • Lime • Grapefruit • Siberian Fir • Thyme • Cinnamon

BLEMISHES AND FACIAL CARE We’ve all experienced it, usually at a certain point in our monthly cycle: an explosion of tender FACIAL BLEMISHES that bring us back to our teenage days. What’s the deal with hormones and blemishes? And more importantly, how can we minimize these breakouts? In a nutshell, your sebaceous glands produce sebum, which is an oily substance. Sebum does have a useful purpose: it’s needed to moisturize the skin and hair. The problem comes in when a nearby hair follicle gets plugged. It can combine with other particles that are trapped by the pores and reproduce bacteria. This, in turn, leads to blemishes and outbreaks of the skin. So how can your monthly cycle affect your skin? The answer lies in hormone levels. Testosterone levels trigger the sebaceous glands and their sebum production. Progesterone can also make your skin oilier. These hormones both tend to be at high levels about a week before your cycle starts, so week four of your monthly cycle can start off with that annoying, potentially embarrassing, explosion of blemishes. OUR TOPICAL BLEND, HD CLEAR, helps reduce breakouts and promotes a clear complexion. This blend contains the cleansing power of Melaleuca (renowned for its blemish-fighting properties) as well as Black Cumin, Ho Wood, Litsea, Eucalyptus, and Geranium Essential Oils. It comes in a 10 ml roller bottle for easy and convenient spot-treatment application. For sensitive skin, dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil or carrier oil of your choice. If your monthly breakouts require more than spot treatment, the HD CLEAR FACIAL KIT can give you some extra support. It consists of three products: The HD CLEAR that we already talked about, the FOAMING FACE WASH, and a FACIAL LOTION. These products are all made from natural plant extracts and Essential Oils. The HD CLEAR FOAMING FACE WASH contains the same skin-cleansing Essential Oils found in the Topical Blend plus other natural plant extracts such as Licorice Root, White Willow Bark, Magnolia, and Manuka. It is nourishing and soothing, and you can use it every day for your face washing routine or supplement it during weeks you anticipate more problem skin. The HD CLEAR FACIAL LOTION is hydrating and skin-nourishing. It purifies skin and, as a bonus, also helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps promote improved skin texture and reduces the appearance of blemishes. It’s a great tool to hydrate your skin without clogging pores. Something extra to love about HD CLEAR in any of its three forms is that it’s hydrating. Many other skin products meant to help with blemishes dry out and/or irritate skin, but

Page 27: Bethany Wallin NTP

26

the Essential Oils and plant extracts found in this blend are cleansing, soothing, and hydrating. These products work great individually but using them together as a three-step facial-cleansing system can be even more effective. Start by cleansing your face with the FOAMING FACE WASH, then follow with the FACIAL LOTION and spot-treating problem areas with the HD CLEAR roller.

MEDITATION AND EXERCISE Extreme or chronic stress can have a profound negative effect on your hormones. This includes the hormones involved in your monthly cycle. Stress can affect the length and regularity of your cycle, the severity of your symptoms, and how well you emotionally handle your body’s changes. MEDITATION is a beneficial practice to partake in throughout your cycle, especially in the area of reducing stress. The attention to breathing, posture, and focus that comes with meditation can help you feel emotionally grounded and physically balanced, which in turn can help lessen stress and its negative effects on the body. Meditation and Essential Oils make a powerful combination, as they complement and enhance each other. Essential Oils that come from Trees make great choices while meditating. They are calming and grounding and bring to mind the strength and consistency of deep roots, sturdy trunks, and healing resin. You can diffuse them or mix with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply topically before meditating. Some Essential Oils that people love to diffuse while meditating include: • Frankincense • Sandalwood • Spikenard • Vetiver • Patchouli • Lavender • Clary Sage You can also swipe Rose, Neroli, or Jasmine on the back of your neck or pulse points before meditating. These three floral oils come in 10 ml roller bottles and are already diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil. They are perfect to use as personal fragrances and enhance calmness, focus, and a clearing of the mind.

Exercises, especially various forms of stretching, is often part of a meditation routine. If you enjoy this sort of activity, performing poses that gently stretch your abdominal muscles can help ease menstrual cramps. If you would like to use Essential Oils to enhance your meditation or exercise activities, check out a special trio of blends designed with these practices in mind. They are calming and grounding and can be used when meditating, whether or not you include any kind of exercise in your meditation sessions. The Enlightening Blend, ARISE (made up of Grapefruit, Lemon, Osmanthus, Melissa, and Siberian Fir Essential Oils) promotes feelings of happiness, clarity, and courage. It encourages you to challenge yourself in setting and meeting your goals. CAUTION: Contains Citrus Oils; avoid sunlight and UV rays after applying topically. The Steadying Blend, ANCHOR (consisting of Lavender, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Cinnamon, Frankincense, Black Pepper, and Patchouli Essential Oils) promotes feelings of completeness, calmness, courage, and moving forward. The Centering Blend, ALIGN (featuring Bergamot, Coriander, Marjoram, Peppermint, Jasmine, and Rose Essential Oils) promotes feelings of self-acceptance, trust, harmony, and fluidity. The Bergamot used in this blend is FCF, so you don’t need to be concerned about photosensitivity. PRACTICAL USES • Apply several drops to diffuser jewelry or lava diffusing rocks. • Apply to ankles, base of spine, and bottoms of feet to promote feelings of completeness and calmness. • Enjoy the aromatic benefits of these blends whenever you are feeling scattered or uprooted. • Use during exercise, while meditating, or any time during your day. CAUTION: Certain stretching positions should not be used during your menstrual week, due to the conflict in energy flow between such poses and what the body is trying to accomplish during menstruation. NOTE: In this context, “Meditation” means only taking time to get away from noises and distractions and allow time for deeper thought. No other religious or metaphysical meaning is intended or implied. NOTE: Essential Oils Academy does not endorse the practice of Yoga for spiritual or physical health. For an alternative to Yoga, consider Praise Moves, a Scripture-based exercise program with superior physical exercises and benefits (and with which the oils above can be used). ABDOMINAL DISCOMFORT When ABDOMINAL DISCOMFORT is part of a woman’s monthly cycle, it usually occurs during Menstrual Week, although some women experience it around the time of ovulation or during their Premenstrual Week. These uterine contractions are caused by something called prostaglandins, which rise during certain points in your cycle. This process is helpful for the shedding of the endometrial lining, but it can also come with some discomfort. There are many ways to help relieve this discomfort naturally, including: • Eating a diet low in saturated fats. • Drinking herbal tea. • Covering the abdominal area with a hot water bottle or heating pad. • Drinking plenty of water and getting light exercise. • Making sure your body gets the ideal amount of Omega-3s. You can also apply soothing Essential Oils to your abdomen, either diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil (or carrier oil of your choice) or mixed with unscented lotion. There are many Essential Oils and oil blends that provide a soothing sensation for muscles, joints, and skin. Some include: • CLARY CALM • Clary Sage • Lavender • Roman Chamomile • Marjoram • AROMATOUCH • Basil • Bergamot • Cedarwood • Cyprus • Frankincense • Ylang Ylang • Geranium • Rose For a tummy massage, try mixing a couple drops of your favorite soothing Essential Oils with the Spa Hand and Body Lotion. This lotion is unscented and does not contain Essential Oils, which makes it a perfect choice for a massage. It contains the moisturizing properties of Jojoba, Sunflower, and Macadamia Seed Oils and will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth. It absorbs quickly and feels non-greasy. You can use your favorite soothing combination. If you’re not sure where to start, try one of these combinations:

One teaspoon Spa Hand and Body Lotion plus • 1 drop Frankincense Essential Oil • 1 drop Clary Sage Essential Oil • 1 drop Lavender Essential Oil One teaspoon Spa Hand and Body Lotion plus • 2 drops Lavender Essential Oil • 1 drop Ylang Ylang Essential Oil • 1 drop Geranium Essential Oil One teaspoon Spa Hand and Body Lotion plus • 2 drops CLARY CALM • 2 drops AROMATOUCH Another type of abdominal discomfort has to do a tummy trouble: bloating, gas, and indigestion. Whether you indulged a little too much in a sugary food craving or your hormones are making you feel out of whack in the appetite department, DIGESTZEN can help soothe upset stomach issues. DIGESTZEN smells spicy and minty and includes the tummy taming Essential Oils of Peppermint, Fennel, Ginger, Anise, Tarragon, Caraway, and Coriander.

DIET AND CRAVINGS Food CRAVINGS come in many forms. Some women crave sweet, sugary items, while others desire starchy comfort foods. Not only can these cravings derail any diet or fitness plans you’ve been working so hard to stick to, but many of the foods we crave can actually make our bodies feel worse in the long run. A box of doughnuts might satisfy a hormone-induced sugar craving in the moment, but indulging can also lead to blemish flare-ups, nausea or bloating, and difficulty sleeping later. Grapefruit Essential Oil is great for metabolism and fighting sugar cravings. Since it’s a Citrus Oil, it can help uplift mood, which can also deter the reason for the cravings. You can diffuse it, mix with Fractionated Coconut Oil and apply topically, (but don’t forget to take precautions against photosensitivity) or put one or two drops in your water. PRACTICAL USES • Diffuse while dieting or trying to lose weight to increase motivation. • Add one to two drops to your water to support a healthy metabolism.*

A food craving is often the body’s way of satisfying an emotional need. If you experience cravings during your monthly cycle, before immediately heading to the kitchen, take the time to examine your emotions. Are you feeling overwhelmed? Irritable? Sluggish or tired? Often, addressing the underlying emotional need can help eliminate the body’s physical desire for a food that isn’t going to benefit your body. It’s vital to eat a healthy, clean diet during every stage of your monthly cycle, particularly during Premenstrual Week. What you eat affects every system in your body and the physical and emotional symptoms you feel as a result. Your body needs healthy foods like protein, fats, fruits, and veggies. Cutting back on sugar and processed foods can help alleviate issues related to your monthly cycle as well as contribute to your overall well-being and cellular function. A few “bad news” foods or notes to be aware of during Premenstrual Week include: • Caffeine – Known to cause breast tenderness and contribute to menstrual cramps and irritability. • Salty foods – Can dehydrate you and contribute to abdominal and breast bloating and swelling. • Saturated fats and caffeine – Can spur production of substances that increase the body’s susceptibility to the abdominal pains found during certain stages of your monthly cycle. • Deficient levels of calcium and/or iron – May increase the likelihood of symptoms during the Premenstrual Week.

TIPS AND HACKS Here are a few TIPS AND HACKS to help you throughout your Monthly Cycle. PEPPERMINT BEADLETS PEPPERMINT BEADLETS taste refreshing and are invigorating. These tiny beadlets contain 1/4 of a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil and dissolve in your mouth. They freshen breath, soothe tummies, and aid the respiratory system. They also provide an energizing punch, so you can pop one in your mouth when you need an energy pick-me-up. They come in a small container that’s perfect for stashing in your purse or backpack so you can be sure they are always on hand when fatigue strikes during Menstrual or Premenstrual Week. SERENITY BATH OIL Bath salts are fairly easy to make as far as Essential Oil recipes go, but at some points throughout your monthly cycle, overwhelming emotions and head tension have the

Page 32: Bethany Wallin NTP

31

potential to make even something as simple as digging out the Epsom salt, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and calming oils seem like a monumental task. There’s a solution that’s even quicker and easier for those days when you’re feeling your worst: poke a hole in a couple SERENITY COMPLEX SOFTGELS and add the liquid contents to your bath water. Two capsules contain plenty of makeshift bath oil to help you relax and recover emotionally from a difficult day. These SOFTGELS were designed to be taken internally to promote restful sleep, but their contents also make a great bath oil in a pinch! STAIN STICK FOR DELICATES No matter how absorbent the tampon, trusty the menstrual cup, or wing-wrapping the pad, leaks are a fact of life. Those spotted panties aren’t appealing to put on, even if you know they’ve been washed. Some stains require extra cleansing to remove from clothing, and you can use the ONGUARD LAUNDRY DETERGENT to make your own stain stick. The best part is that you’ll know the soap that’s touching your most delicate clothing is full of natural ingredients. To make your own stain stick, fill a roller bottle halfway with ONGUARD LAUNDRY DETERGENT. Then top with water. Shake, apply to tough stains, and let clothes sit for a few minutes before washing. If you prefer a spray to stick form, fill a glass spray bottle with half laundry detergent, half water. Shake and spray.

CLARY SAGE ESSENTIAL OIL CLARY SAGE ESSENTIAL OIL is one of the most relaxing, soothing, and emotionally balancing Essential Oils around, which makes it a perfect companion for support during your monthly cycle. It contains linalyl acetate and linalool, which also happen to be the two components that make Lavender famous for its soothing properties. It’s not surprising that CLARY SAGE Essential Oil is one of the main Essential Oils found in the Monthly Blend for Women. Combining one or two drops of CLARY SAGE Essential Oil with Fractionated Coconut Oil for a soothing abdominal massage can work wonders during week one of your cycle. The relaxing, calming properties of this oil will provide relief to the body and mind. This woody, herbal-smelling oil is quite versatile and can be used aromatically, topically, or internally. Its aroma is calming for dealing with stress and promotes feelings of

balance and relaxation. Diffusing it at bedtime can help you turn off your thoughts and prepare for a good night’s sleep. It’s cleansing, soothing, and rejuvenating to the skin and hair, too. Some women have even reported that regular use of CLARY SAGE Essential Oil has contributed to helping regulate the duration and heaviness of monthly flow, as well as the length of their cycles. PRACTICAL USES • During your menstrual cycle, rub three to five drops on the abdomen for a soothing massage. • Combine with Roman Chamomile and add to bath water for a stress-relieving bath. • Diffuse or apply to pillow at night for a restful sleep. • Add to shampoo or hair conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp. • Combine with Fractionated Coconut Oil to massage, soothe, or rejuvenate skin. • Apply one to two drops to the bottoms of your feet or to your pulse points to help deal with stress. • Take one or two drops in a veggie capsule to help calm the nervous system.*

BASIL has often been used to display signs of love in the Italian culture, and just one or two drops taste great in many Italian dishes. While most Essential Oil lovers know how much BASIL has to offer in the kitchen, many don’t realize that it can help ease some of the effects during your monthly cycle. The result is that it smells different on everybody. Depending on your body chemistry, it could smell musky, warm, soft, spicy, or sweet! You can also use this blend aromatically by placing three or four drops in your diffuser. Part of the charm of the blend is the different aromas that are created due to each woman’s unique body chemistry; however, it has its own amazing aroma as well. Warming and calming, it’s a great choice to diffuse to set a relaxing, enticing mood. PRACTICAL USES • Apply to wrists, back of neck, and pulse points for a distinct and individual fragrance. • Diffuse or add to clay pendants for a unique aromatic experience. • Dispense one to two drops in the palm of the hand and rub on clothing, scarves, and coats to experience calming emotions throughout the day. • Combine one to two drops with unscented lotion for a moisturizing and aromatic application. CAUTIONS: This blend does contain Fractionated Coconut Oil, so it is already diluted for topical use. However, you can dilute further for sensitive skin.
